My family is from Columbus. My great grandfather went to Fort Benning to train for WWII & was in Normandy & other parts of Europe. I love this, thank you for sharing this beautiful history.

I was born and raised in Columbus. My dad managed the Rexview Drive-in Theater. As Mormons, we were taught that we were all God's children and that skin color made no difference. I grew up on Hamilton Rd.and we lived next to the predominantly Black community on Alexander St. I grew up playing with the children of both communities and we never thought a thing about it. My dad treated his Black staff no differently than his white staff. When the theaters integrated, the cashier said that wasn't going to sell tickets to Black people. My dad informed her that she'd need to find another job. She backed down! My first job was as the projectionist at the Liberty Theater. I ran the last reel of film there on the day it closed. I'm glad that I had parents that taught by example. Columbus was a great place to grow up!

That's what all white people say (skin color makes no difference). PLEASE. Give us all ten thousand breaks. That is NOT reality in AmeriKKKa. That's why I left that wretched country. And by the way, no all of us are Christians, worshiping white Jesus and his imaginary sky-god daddy, Jehovah.

The Ma Rainey House, The Liberty Theater, and The Spencer Home, The slave cemetery, The churches, all located in the hood. They've built the area up though, it looks nothing like it did 5 years ago when B.T.W. was standing. There's so much I didn't know and I've lived here 15 years. Walked past those places time and time again! Feeling a little proud of little ol' C-Town!

My Uncle Archie Corley owned and worked the corner building that had a liquor store on the corner and a BBQ restaurant and bar downstairs and had a couple of pool tables with a large L shaped bar you could sit at with tables , it was always hopping at night and the weekends it was the place to be to meet up with relatives. They could fish on the river then too. up stairs they had some gambling too

Yes I know Marilyn Mccoo has ties here, I'm a relative of hers. My mother name is Bessie Mae Wallace, we lived on top of 10th St. In East Wynnton, Mrs. McCoo and family lived in big home with big circle drive way on corner of Lawyer's Lane. Their was a brick wall built around their home. My auntie screened in porch house still stands on top of 10th street, it's now a green and white house I think. I wud love to meet my long lost relatives cuz at 7yrs.old I was raised in foster home with my brother and one of my sisters til we emancipated out of system. My name is Emma M.Wallace yes I still lives in Columbus, Ga.

Forget about Trump he is a Republican Atlanta Ga. might be Democratic but Columbus is well known as a Republican city as far skin color that a joke did you grow up in Columbus what year last twenty years yes I see outside most areas big improvements have been made I wouldn’t trust that town or the State of Georgia . You can think as you please I love New York omg wonderful experience much more too see and do

@@glendajones3173 Glenda Jones I wouldn't trade all five Boroughs of New York City for the old "Dirty Mikes" grocery. Not to be confused with Gerry Giakoumatos' FiDi Cordato's deli where he operates "Dirty Mikes," a bar that comes alive after five when it fills with "girls offering $10 lap dances."
By all means stay in New York, it deserves all the people like you it can get.
