    As a musician for over 30 years I think this is great, I wish it was around when I was just starting but I am glad to see these tools and to see how much better there are getting, I know most musicians are resistant but you either get with the program and evolve or just close your eyes and fade away. This is just a tool , you still have to create and develop the idea

    I've been following these Captain Chords plugins and other "instant creation" tools like Loopcloud for a while now and I'm not as critical as others seem to be about them. I think they go a long way of empowering people that want to make music and get them results fast. And especially Captain Chords does a good job of showing the connection with music theory, which helps you understand what's going on.
    Imo, it allows music makers to focus more on the ever-important composition and production quality.

    I purchased this program a few months ago because I've been using the Mixed in Key program for my dj sets for...well...ever since the program first came out. I think that the developers who make Mixed in Key and this program are really doing cutting edge stuff in sound design. You did an excellent job in the video explaining how it works, and giving some of us, good ideas on how to use it. Oh...and check out this cat named MG the Future, his channel is off the chain with some dope ass content! Dude did a few videos on this program, as well as others (Scaler, etc.). PEACE! ✌🏾

    It's funny to me how some people in the comments are still resistant to new technology even after 40 years of continual change. I'm sure people looked at synthesizers (and then CDJs and then MP3s, etc) the same way that people are looking this software.
    Dudes using a computer with immense processing power recording a high definition video that is being streamed to thousands of people around the planet. And you're tripping about some software that helps you pick a few chords?
    It's just another one tool to allow humans to express themselves through music.
    Anyway, great vid Mark thanks.

    When are some people, out there, going to get it. We live in a new day, and a new technological age. The world is evolving, and everything in it. I remember backing the day, up in NYC, when DJ's had all kinds of clunky equipment, out in the park, jamming. Now DJ's have their "Crates" on a laptop, and their DJ set in a suitcase style case. The point I'm making is, there's no law on how music has to be made. If I can fart Yankee Doodle Dandy into a mic, and record it, mix and master it, and it sounds good, then that's music. I made a few songs using nothing but Apple Loops in Logic Pro X, and they're being played around the world. You think I'm gonna feel guilty, and think I'm "cheating"? Most people don't know, or really care HOW the music is made. They just care that it sounds appealing. I'm taking this Captain Plugins, and combining it with the East West plug ins, in Logic Pro X, and if I make some good tunes, and they sell, you better believe i'm not turning down ANY royalties because someone thinks that's "cheating."

    Super Awesome video!!! I use Logic X Pro...is there any why to assign a plugin to a bus? The plugin I want to assign is the 'Transposer' or 'Captain Play'. I have a template with around 75 instruments...I would like to bus Transposer or Captain Play so I don't have to worry where the correct note is...I want to concentrate more on playing the perfect melody...so I want the whole keyboard in the right key...I just don't want to input Transposer or Captain Playto each track one by one to 75 instruments 12 time= 900...too much work if I could just use the plugin in a bus. From my research if I'm not mistaken this is not possible, if so what is your professional opinion on a work around. Thank you greatly in advance for you help.

    For the naysayers of these tools. Learning to play is something to strive for, but the time investment in learning theory and technique alone takes years. By all means though, keep trying to play your complicated piano pieces and guitar riffs by hand. I promise that the listeners don't notice or care that it was you playing vs captain chords. They just want good music to dance to.

    Capt Plugins online all the time thing killed it for me. Can't believe they are that paranoid when most companies are able to make plugins functional offline without being robbed blind through pirating.I can't even call it up in my template to be set up the way I left it. I bought it thinking I could get used to it but I stopped using it. Using Scaler2 instead. Hoping some day Capt Plugins changes their philosophy and I can try again.

      @Matt Donner I agree in a way, but when I tried these type of plug-ins it felt like cheating. Even when it generates great ideas I didn't feel good using them. Maybe I'm wired like that haha

    • @Basshigure
      @Basshigure 6 лет назад +5

      It’s as much cheating as any built in midi scale plug-in. Powerful yet you need a musical brain behind you to really transform your idea into a full fledged song. I bought Captain and have come up with several ideas but it’s inspired me to want to get deeper into music theory and understand what these progressions mean so I can know why certain chords sound well together and others don’t.

    • @sannamati4571
      @sannamati4571 6 лет назад

      Mantas Rubštavičius the chords are also numbers still..u just play and get the tonality u can then move them around later create more tension. Its a tool. As classical pianist might say..daw is a cheating tool u should play all individual notes in, what would u tell her/him?

    • @saumon4060
      @saumon4060 6 лет назад +3

      You can learn music theory perfectly and it takes time, you probably use some predefined instruments, synths, effects with little tweaks and so on. I like to design sound form very beginning and I know only a tiny bit about music theory. Making music is so complicated that you can't fix on doing everything by your own you just run out of time to learn everything. Don't get me wrong but I think that people overvalue music theory as some magical thing and they underestimate value of mastering effects and technical stuff as it is not a part of music making. Well it is and everything matters at the end. For me music theory awareness is just another technical skill and If a script / program / plugin can do the thing for artist it is awesome, it is not cheating in any meaning. You've learned theory so you have advantage of being more conscious about this element I will probably never get your results. At the end making music should be easiest as possible only this way we can expect progress in this field.

    These developers are crap. First they made Odesi then abandoned it and now capain plugins has been out since april this year for windows and they haven't released anything other than capain play and chords. It's a fucking joke and I gave up on them and found far more useful tools like synfire & Orb Composer. They cost a signifcant amount more but are worth the extra cash and actually have decent features.
