    In my 55 years of riding and racing I have been impressed with all my Suzuki's, can't say that for my Honda's, Yamaha's, or Kawasakis. Just me I guess.

    • @jeffweier4824
      @jeffweier4824 8 месяцев назад +19

      I agree. I have over 45 years of riding experience and I have owned and ridden bikes from all 4 Japanese brands. I have to say that all the Yamaha's were very good mechanically apart from 1 with a clutch problem. The Kawasaki had overheating problems in the Aussie summer. Of the 4 Honda's only one (a VFR1200F) was trouble-free. The others all had problems with cam chain tensioners, suspension issues and one of them would overheat in city stop-start traffic very quickly. Believe me everything was done to try and fix this problem but it still did it. The Suzuki's (Bandit's and V Strom's) have all been excellent, reliability-wise and I've put more kilometres up on each of them compared to any of the others. Sorry it's just the truth from my ownership experiences and perspective.

      Hi Gary..no one will judge you for having a great riding experience. LOL! We're probably close in age. Me and my brother raced Honda motocross as kids but we always liked the yellow RMs. We believed them to be more "cool". IMO, I think most JDM bikes are solid, the ride notwithstanding.

    You make a few great points. Less expensive than a BMW yet still plenty of power. When did 150bhp become not enough? Very tractable easy to ride. Same price as the Tracer 9 GT+ but lacking the electronic suite. Active cruise control is a game changer for sure and despite it being an incredible riding machine, Suzuki may have lost sales to Yamaha or even BMW with this omission. Perhaps next year it will be included even as standard. Wonderful review. Cheers!

    I guess all manufacturers now make products based on segments and where they can compete, but I wonder whether one bike in between the GT and GX, and a good £1,500 cheaper (or whack auto ride height lowering on it), might appeal to a wider range of riders. Or do bikers insist on a “proper” sports tourer or a not really adv adventure bike and must have one or the other? It’s an attractive bike for sure, and I’m glad to see Suzuki coming out with so many great bikes after a good few lean years.

    Ok Dan, the question most of us want answered… How would you compare it to the Tracer? I like the lighter weight of the Tracer. In your 2 videos I like the sound of the Yamaha better. I know the Suzuki had very few miles and the roads weren’t great so you were taking it easy but how would you compare the engines. Does the low end power feel fairly similar? It would be nice if they offered a cheaper version without the electronic suspension.

    Got my motorcycle learner's permit in 1973. I have owned 17 motorcycles a few each of Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki sport bikes, a Wide Glide, 3 BMW GS. I bought a 1975 Kawasaki KZ 900 brand new when I was 18. Currently an R1250GS Rallye, with an R1300GS Trophy on order. Beemers are on a whole different plain. It's the whole gestalt of the bike's aura. I ride crisp, but sane. Everywhere people compliment my bike. Men, women, and children stop to chat. I'm 67 with grey hair, so it's not me. It's the bike. Lol.

  • @Mastermindthreethousand
    @Mastermindthreethousand 8 месяцев назад +2

    I'm sure that pick up truck driver got the feeling you were following him 😅.
    About the power and weight : I don't ride motorcycles, I am a car enthusiast but equally intrigued by the motorcycle world. I drive a 140hp 1385kg Mini Countryman Cooper 1.5 Turbo and manage 200kmh straight and very decent handling on tight roads. Its best feature is its all round capabilities. A 150hp 230kg all road bike seems like a super machine compared to this. Especially with the electric damping settings and all, it looks like a great performing vehicle. I always am baffled when some riders complain about hp and weight, even with half of the hp and half more weight these machines would perform just fine. It's ever so important however to keep the balance and inertia of a vehicle right. A vehicle should be heavy enough to keep its composure when being resisted by wind, friction or discrepancies while riding. Too light and it will dance and bounce around. Too powerful and the rider becomes a passenger. 150hp for a 230kg bike is really already quite exceptional. And €15.000 for a bike is actually expensive. These figures, latest years, have become so common, people and especially younger people, are really underestimating what they actually stand for.
    Thx for the great review, greetings from a car enthusiast. I am a subscriber because I want to get my motorcycle license and a nice motorbike when I retire. As of now, my preference is the Goldwing bagger.

    Dan… the “pro riders” you are referring to not liking the dunlops are guys that love themselves a tire that aids them in going unlawfully fast and at Insane knee scraping angles… how many of us are That rider? Very few. And for us that are… get a Panigale. No pillion rider in that bike.
    What you now have tested is a tourer. A bike for a driver and a pillion rider. Do we Need to hoon around on a tourer?
    Very nice upload as I’m about to buy a tourer. The Speed Twin 1200 stays! She’s MY sexy lady and she’s (mostly) for me. And she’s on Avons. Wonderful tires for that bike.

    I've got a GSXS1000F (the uglier, but still excellent older brother). The Sportmax OEM tyres are rubbish (lots of OEMs use tyres that are 'the same model' but inferior, it's widely reported). It's why the testers and you noted the ABS being too keen, it's not the ABS it's the rubbish wooden tyres - once I put on aftermarket tyres the ABS did what it was supposed to do [likewise the TCS]. I had a Niken before and that had crap OEM tyres and would activate the ABS at the merest hint of moisture on the road.

In fact i was rather pleased that my dealership had only the GT in the color i wanted (red) so i didnt have to actually make that decision. Really lovely bikes these gsxs's. All of them are just... dare i say... perfect. Subtle when you want it to be. An absolute beast if you rip it. One thing i found was that many complain of the brakes on these bikes... i personally did not find this issue. They are just fine... small bit of takeup then a nice fast progressive braking with plenty of stopping power. Maybe compared to a top end race bike the brakes arent perfect, but compared to anything else... they are just fine if not great.

    14.5k for this seems steep. It's just an upright 20 year old bike with a few electronics on it. Bikes are so expensive and keep getting moreso. They just keep adding technology that doesn't materially change the riding experiecne and then charging more. Give me fuel injection, ABS, and cruise control for a decent price and you can keep you IMUs and rider modes and semi-active suspensions.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  8 месяцев назад

      The suspension makes an actual difference when riding, without needing to get the tools out. If you don't like that sort of thing, plenty of non-alec suspended bikes out there. I think more choice is good personally.

      @beanwithbaconmegarocket 8 месяцев назад

      @@EnglishbikerdanYes, you're probably right that everything they've added to the bike works well. But I wonder what the price would be if we dropped unecessary upgrades like the TFT, quickshifter, IMU, adaptive suspension, etc. Because once you strip anyway all those premium features that manufacturers use to justify premium prices, you just have an upright K5 GSXR-1000 (or, if you like, an upright GSX-S1000F)

    106 Nm of torque. After writing about the rocket 3 and Goldwing today for the Triumph club magazine it sounds so peanutty… but it isn’t. Although it could be more.
    170Nm for the six cylinder Goldwing and 221Nm for the three cylinder Rocket3.
    Can’t compare the three though.
    When it comes to tourers and Suzuki I’d rather have the GT. just feels more secure with a pillion and luggage. Centre of gravity is much lower.
    Although… a low seat Tiger 900 is pretty ok with a pillion rider.
    Must give quick shift to Suzuki. Looovely system.

    It looks a great bike.. But if you spec up to a similar standard as the Tracer 9GT+ it's not.. Heated grips, centre stand and panniers are not standard.. Plus for some reason Suzuki advise no top box.. Yet it supposed to be a tourer.. Engine wise both yamaha and Suzuki have fantastic engines. The CP3 engine is a peach

    I'd like to demo this because the sport touring segment interests me...but man, the price difference between the GSX-S1000GT+ and this GSX-S1000GX+ has me scratching my head and wondering where the value is? Are you really getting $4,300(US) more in parts/upgrades? Also, someone please check on the person naming these bikes at Suzuki. They even tried to create their own new segment name: "crossover". I think a marketing exec is trying and failing to be innovative, and they may need an intervention.

    • @SoDakTwisties
      @SoDakTwisties 8 месяцев назад

      @@JelloThatsMellow Good call out. The price sure did seem to be in the neighborhood of the 'premium brands', which generally are going to have better fit and finish than Suzuki is known for. I suspect you're right about them setting that price to test the waters of what people are willing to spend for a Suzuki. My impression is that probably isn't going to work out for them. I feel like in that price range, I am going for a BMW S1000XR over the Suzuki. Yamaha's Tracer 9 GT+ is also quite high, so maybe that's a trend we'll keep seeing from the Japanese brands. Not a trend I can get behind, honestly.

    Would its main rival not be the Versys 1000? Or if you were a Suzuki nut or course the GSX1000GT as both do the same thing really with the same engine. A few years ago I was lucky enough to own a z1000sx and a Versys 1000 at the same time. Again both road going touring bikes and in a way competing with each other. I was amazed no one tested these 2 back to back for people who couldn't decide which style suited their needs best. For it was the SX in the end that I kept mainly because I can't cope with the noisy screens on most tall rounders .
