Curtains: -exist-
Sewists: "You'd make a lovely garment"
This is so true 🤣 *stares at the stash bin with a whole stack of brocade curtains in it*
@@sonipitts oh my stars! b r o c a d e
You caught me. I'm currently making a 1920s evening gown with curtains. It's their own darn fault for being the perfect length and saving time on hemming.
@@roninelenion4805 I did an 18th century dress out of curtains. They just work so well!
@@jac_and_the_making_of And they have such pretty patterns.
It looks so amazing! Suits really do suit all. And so glad my rambling on collar fit made some sense!
Thank you again so much! It helped immensely
Nicole, if you're going on this trip I hope you're bringing your Gonzo outfit to wear at least one day. IT'S AMAZING.
@@brookeg5979 wasn't Gonzo Victorian style? Nicole's going 1920s on that trip.
Yup! I think part of the reason why I don't vibe so much with Urban Fashion aesthetics is my devotion to the clean sartorial lines in a properly fitted suit.
Morgan: “Red might be more my flavor.”
Me: *notices virtually every single piece of fabric behind her is red* 😂❤️
Shhhhh u
Same! Saw the curtain when she said red velvet and I knew it was getting a trim!
Hi Morgan! Seeing how important those multiple mock-ups were for the fitting process I was wondering... could you perhaps make a tutorial on how you extract information from your mock-ups and use it to alter the pattern? I think it would be really interesting to see how you approach this process. Amazing video as usual!
Agreed. I can see what I want to change on a mock up while wearing it, but once I take the item off and lay it on the table I feel like those changes stop making sense.
Absolutely agree. Would be helpful to see the process, much as you do for the collar.
The Closet Historian has a great playlist on making and fitting patterns.
@@lady_sir_knight3713 Good to know! Thank you!
I would love to see something like that!
I'm always amazed at how fast she sews. The first mock up would have taken me a week at least.
Same. I just assumed she was wearing the same clothes for filming until she mentioned it was all done in one day. Wild
Practice. Lots of practice.
For me I sew fast but I have to go back and sew again because I’m too impatient to do it properly lol
She does it for a living. That's hard t compete with.
My anxiety creeps up after an hour of sewing, forcing me to have a break lol. I too am amazed when I see people completing 5 garments every month!
I can't count the number of straw hats that I have spray painted. I'll freely admit that they could probably be better with a fabric treated brush acrylic. This jacket is so very beautiful on you. It suits you (yep. I love a pun).
Could the hat be dyed perhaps?
I suppose if you've already painted the suit there's no reason not to paint the hat as well.
@@ema2031 I expect that's the next video!
The jacket looks so good. I love the tip of putting a reference into procreate for recreations. When you said that it felt like one of those things that should be obvious, but you don't realize until someone points it out.
Yes! I’m trying to learn how she did it, now.
It amazes me that you can take something you just saw, and didn’t even touch to see how it was made, and end up with something so complicated and lovely! Speaking of curtains, my favorite skit in the Carole Burnett show was the Gone with the Wind dress episode where Scarlett makes a fancy gown from her curtains - “I saw it in the window and I just had to have it!” Always cracks me up.
Is that the one where it still has the curtain rod in it?
Yep! 😆 Fully available here on RUclips too... Honestly, if the rod had been just SLIGHTLY shorter, I'd swear it was sine kind of out-there Alexander McQueen runway piece? 😋
I adore that skit! When she appears in that dress with the curtain rod in situ, I die laughing!
@@annbrookens945 One of my college professors helped write that scene, he was SO proud of it.
The jacket looks super sharp! The red is totally on brand for you and part of why it looks so good is because you clearly feel amazing in it. I'm excited to see your curtain dress. I love how you give yourself the liberty to tweak ideas just a bit to make them suit you. Exact recreations are great, but being able to riff on an idea either in subtle or bold ways is delightful. It feels very playful and lighthearted, which I'm totally here for. It's something I'm always trying to work on myself, accepting personal variation as a thing of beauty rather than a fault. It's much easier to do for other people than for myself!
I've been dreaming of this outfit since I first saw the film and your recreation is jaw-dropping! The red is GORGEOUS and I'm obsessed with you slicing red velvet from your workroom curtains lol So stunning and beautifully made! Well done :D
I've been eyeing a couple of curtains that my husband hates but would make a great dress 😄 let's go team curtains!
Shades of Gone with the Wind.😃
Ahem. They're not really curtains....they're just usefully stored.
I absolutely love you did red/burgundy with polka dots--very much a Morgan Donner flair and it suits you perfectly. I needed some sewing inspiration today, so, thanks for coming in clutch!
Ummm. Excuse me? Looking that good in those suit jackets? Yes! You definitely should make a trench coat! Lol
Awesome video and all of the jackets looked great 😁
I like yours better! Also, I love the idea of the jacket with a solid skirt. If the color of the hat bothers you, it could always be covered with any leftover velvet curtain scraps (if you have time). Can't wait to see what else you come up with!
Omg that title alone 😂 I'm a nude life model at art schools sometimes and I'm constantly telling people "no it's DEFINITELY not like Titanic where I get to kick it on a comfy couch.' Gorgeous project, amazing job, well done!!
Mad props to you, that is much harder than it looks, and a good model is a co-creator.
Holding ANY position for that length of time seems super-taxing! 😳 Do you have to do a lot of yoga or pilates or similar to make sure your muscles don't just end up in one massive knot at the end of a work day...? (Kudos to you too for being up for remaining that exposed in front of other people! 💯 not something I'd EVER be brave enough for...)
@@annastevens1526 You are correct! And actually I did ballet for 14 years but when you do something athletic for that long you develop muscle memory and the students can get a lot of different poses, most of them stemming from dance. I do relish the chance to sit on the floor though! As long as the room is warm I don't mind being sans clothing. I went to art school as well so I know that sometimes the students are nervous and I have to be the confident one.
Tailoring is SUCH a skill and being able to make a well fitting garment is very impressive! Carmen Sandiego vibes all the way!!!
The boarding outfit was always my favorite of the entire movie. I am so glad you did this project!!
I love the jacket! Your painting technique was so creative. The red hat is giving me Princes Diana vibes.
That's exactly what I thought, too!
I love how we all look at our watch when thinking about how much time we have left, even when that time is measured in weeks!
I am so incredibly impressed with this project of yours! The finished product looks *amazing*! The patience to do a couple mockups is something I do not have, so kudos to you for that because they paid off. Absolutely amazed that you made your own pin dot detailing, that is WILD! and looks fantastic. The hat? Swoon! Such a gorgeous ensemble, you are going to WOW people when you board that ship!
As long as no one takes it as an omen for their journey 😉
This is my favorite costume from Titanic!! I’ve been so obsessed with this suit since I first saw it as a kid. Your version is so beautiful!!!
MORGAN!!!!! It’s utterly divine! I love the original version (her hat wasn’t an exact match, either), but the RED! It’s so, so amazing.
Nearly spit my tea when you started "eyeing up the curtains" and wound up using them! Brilliant!!
It gave me a Maria vibe lol
Love the curtain usage 😆 Beautiful final product as always!
Yess!!! So exciting to catch an upload this early on ❤️ Titanic is one of my favourite movies!! And I love that your videos are nice and long. It's perfect for a cup of tea on a rainy evening. 😊
Also, as a side note, do you think you'd ever be up to doing a video just taking us through how to properly follow a dress pattern? It's quite daunting to me. I understand that I could look elsewhere, but I'd love to see you do a tutorial for it!
Ode to the mockups! The final suit looks fantastic!
Looks amazing! And if you make a dress instead of a skirt, it basically gives you two different outfits, much like what Nicole is doing with the whole capsule wardrobe thing.
I'm also super impressed with how, whenever you can't find the exact fabric you want, you just make it. That is so cool!
I hope you all have a marvelous time on that cruise!
I was having a terrible day, I think it’ll be a little better now that I have this to watch ❤️
I only sew the most basic things like pillow cases and hems so the amount of work this entails blows me away. It's gorgeous!!!
The fabric tool painting was very neat…what a cool result with adjusting the paint brush! The jacket turned out great!
YAAAASSS I've been on a Morgan binge all day, this is awesome!!
I just want to say how dare you inspire me to make more clothes when I thought my capsule wardrobe was done? Who gives you the right to make things that are so pretty that now I have to have it in my life? But, damn, the red was such an absolutely fabulous choice. I'd love to see a matching skirt or Secret Pants to go with it!
Oooh! That super-structured jacket with a snazzy red 'secret pants' set or a drapey pair of 20's-style palazzo-leg pants would be veeery tasty!
I think Morgan and I both see life as a game. But she sees it as a game where every move is an opportunity for exploration that could be fun. Whereas I see it as a game where every move is an exploration that could lead the wrong place. I'm going to try and be more like Morgan.
seeing you in this is making me realize how much like princess Diana you look! maybe you should do a recreation of one oh her looks, including feathered hair.
Red--not surprised. Since it appears that you are going on the same cruise as Nicole and Abby, I look forward to seeing video from the trip. Like the creativity of hand-painting the fabric. Can't wait to see the dress made from the curtains. Cue Carol Burnette doing her Gone with the Wind parody.
That collar info was EXCELLENT. Adorable.
I mean this in the best way possible: this gives Carmen Sandiego time traveling vibe and I love it. Thank you for your videos!
absolutely love how the jacket turned out though I must admit now you have me wanting to see how you would tackle some of the other looks from the movie.
whatever videos are sponsored by june's journey are just absolute bangers 😭might hafta download it soon..
Morgan in the red hat and jacket toward the end gave me very Princess Diana vibes (and she was my favorite!). :)
I clicked immediately when I saw this video pop up. The boarding dress from Titanic is my dream project!
Thanks for showing the process with the mock-up. I tend to be guilty of skipping that step, but you showed exactly why it’s such an important part of the project. I also love how you used your tablet to compare your mock-up with the original piece. So clever! And I’ve had the same issues with collars before, so Nicole’s tips were a revelation for me too.
I’m absolutely obsessed with the finished jacket!
The painted dots look amazing and really add a lot compared to just solid lines
This is my favourite movie costume of al time. So seeing someone recreate it was just *chef's kiss*
Great, great job! For the hat, I'd probably try to darken it with acrylic paint… the good thing about those is that you can dilute them as much as you want, so you can control the result 100%
Gorgeous. (and yes, I'm totally surprised you went with red, lol)
The hat compliments the jacket as it is. Having everything match precisely can look overplanned. A slightly different shade on a large accessory takes the whole outfit to the next level. You have a definite personal style anyway, so it suits you better.
Morgan! Something about you in this coat is giving Princess Diana, and YOU DID SO GOOD ON THIS COAT!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!! ❤
Morgan's mock-up looking nicer than anything I've ever made, period.
The last part of the video with you in the hat and coat, smiling so happily - you actually look like Princess Diana.
Am I the only person who thinks you look like Princess Di in this outfit at the end of the video? Not up close, but the full shot.
You did a great job! I can't imagine painting the pattern on my entire garment.
Omg this suit is one of the outfits that got me into costuming!!! It's so iconic
I love how this turned out! Wonderful!
I love structured jackets; I have half a dozen and always want more. Great work on this one.
Love seeing you wear your past video projects. The sundyed dress is so cute!
Well done!! I just loved the clothes in Titanic, especially that traveling suit.
This turned out so cute! The outfits from Titanic are some of my favorites of all time. This jacket in particular is perfect for you.
The dotting tool worked so well. I loved the cut of the final jacket.
The first mock up looks so cute, obviously the whole outfit is stunning! dang such talent Morgan 😍
This is so lovely. I love fashion from that era and I am SO impressed with how this came out. Your lines look so clean but with a lot of character.
I'm always so inspired by your enthusiasm, creativeness and ingenuity. And your look came out superb! I love your content!
oh my god, i have been looking for pin stripe fabric and i never thought about painting it! this is BRILLIANT!!! thank you so much!!!
It turned out so cute!
I totally needed the collar adjustment tutorial. I’ve been struggling with that exact issue on a blouse. Thank you Morgan and Nicole Roudolph.
I absolutely love the very slight variation in the dots of the stripes. It's handmade in the best sort of way
It turned out beautiful!
The boarding dress/suit is one of my favourite looks from that movie. You did a fantastic job on it.
Turned out so cute!!!
This looks fantastic, Morgan!!! I LOVE IT! I love it on YOU!
I totally love it! Enjoy the travel that you prepared it for!
An amazing product! As usual, Morgan hits it out of the park.
Completely in love with this creation! The creativity and execution are incredible!! Beautiful work!!
I think the idea of the red dress for under is a really good plan, but you can always make the replica skirt for later and have even more options! It’s amazing and bloody well done. I’m always so amazed by your talents and those of others on RUclips
It looks gorgeous! It came out so well and you look amazing in it!
I absolutely love how your hair looks! The rainbow brings me so much joy❤
You are definitely taking on the world! Nicely done!
This is my favorite outfit of Rose's from Titanic! I'd love to make a version for myself one day. Wonderful video as usual!
The colors on the mockup look lovely!
Wow it’s so beautiful!!! I just love the velvet!!! So pretty! It’s definitely a power jacket!
this was so good 🥰 also your hair and septum piercing looked so cute in this video
It’s always great to see you! Your enthusiasm is infectious. And it’s always fun to see your process. Thank you for sharing
LOVE YOUR FIRST MOCK UP!!!!! those colors are so pretty.
This looks AMAZING!!
I love it in red this is stunning
That is stunning! You did a wonderful job!
That suit is ICONIC and you nailed it! I love the reds and burgundy velvet.
That's absolutely gorgeous!!! 💖💖💖
This is so gooooood. I waaaaaant. Also, loved the split screen approach to you talking about the alterations paired with the footage of you doing said alterations. Excellent editing and it made for a very intuitive, interesting, yet expedited process
I LOOOOVEEE this! And the best part is that you're really feeling your fabulous self in this jacket. ✨️
Absolutely amazing! You look so elegant, I can't wait to see you (and everyone else) on board and living the high life!
Something about you in the full outfit at the end gave major Princess Diana vibes! Lovely!
love this! and curtains and bedding sheets are fair game when it comes to clothing!
So cool!!! That outfit is so Iconic! And your is too! Well done, cant wait to see it with the skirt!
Nicole is a genius and I’m a huge fan of her as well. Can’t wait to see all of my favorite costuming RUclipsrs on this cruise! Suit is gorgeous, Morgan!!
Second that! I particularly adore the way Nicole does such excellent research deep-dives, providing wider sociopolitical & economic context for specific items she reproduces (&/or teaching us more about the industries that originally produced them).
Absolutely stunning!
@14:30 "The red will be a bit more my flavor." She said, against a background framed by red curtains, hats, scarf, & various other red accessories.
Your painted lines are fantastic! They really make the jacket
Such a beautiful jacket! You will look amazing on your cruise! I just LOVE Junes Journey, keeps me 'busy' in front of the telly as well.
Oh so many clever tips here! I love how you do your darts!
Omgosh it's so pretty!
OMG it’s amazing!!! So well done! The way you handled the striped fabric design!!!
I love how this came out!
looks impeccable!!
