A faze out is a bit more gradual so someone would feel petty to bring it up. You respond to one or two texts but others you just leave hanging and say nothing. You never answer the phone. You say maybe to some arrangements but ultimately say no. But others you say you can’t make it, but you give no excuse, you just say you can’t make it. Sometimes you say yes but then cancel, with a generic excuse. If you don’t hate someone you will say happy birthday but in a way that you would say it to any acquaintance. That’s a way of doing it so it doesn’t feel nasty. But perhaps harsh if it’s a best friend. Sometimes you know you want to protect your peace though & don’t want confrontation with someone who would make some things bigger than they need to be.

When you’re young you worry about if life will work out or not. Hers did because she married someone she loves and who loves her. I think that’s what she meant.
