I'm here because of Mikael Åkerfeldt.
Me too 😀.
Haha same here! He was right, this is some obscure stuff
Sully Luther same haha
Me as well
haha, same \m/
Im the former owner of Billingsgate Records and i released LF's first 4 albums i personally paid to record Banquet
We sold 50,000 copies of LF's first album and Billboard refused to chart it.
Most radio stations refused us airplay and finally a dirty distribution deal with Sire (Passport) records killed all of my bands
Epitaph, GuruGuru, Grobschnitt, Pazoo from Belgium and others.
We were not a part of what some others started to call Kraut Rock.
Billingsgate was all about quality.
R.I.P Joachim Reitenbach
R.I.P Dieter Horns
R.I.P John Lawton

I am not here because of Mikael Åkerfeldt. I am here because of the phenomenal John Lawton!!
ABSOLUTELY. I picked up the first Lucifer's Friend vinyl in 1975. I think that this album is far their best.
I am here cuz John Lawton and this band kick serious ass.
Me too! RIP John Lawton
Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth listed this as a one of his favorite albums. Not dissapointed.
That's basically the reason why I am here.
He put me on to them as well! Loving it
Yep Mikael Akerfeldt sent me here also
It is true.
If you've ever wondered what it would sound like if Dio sang for Jethro Tull, here you go.
My dad always says "i loved your mom to this Album, in fact youre a kind of song at it like a hidden track" thanks dad.
A perfect hibrid of progressive, psicodelic and hard rock. Good like hell. Greetings from Brazil.
I bought their first & sir lord Baltimore - Kingdome come for 49 cents each at skaggs-albertson's grocery store in 1973. A great day that was.
what a great band....lucifers friend....john lawton..
Seré el único salvadoreño que escucha esta poesía y obra musical? 🇸🇻 Saludos desde el Salvador !!! Larga vida a Bukele.
Amigo vivo en COLOMBIA y a mis 67 años disfruto del rock setentero ,te recomiendo el vol 1 de los amigos de lucifer
1957,я тоже🤝❤️
It's one of the best albums I've ever heard.
This album is like the stuff that plays in your head when you wake up in the middle of a deep dream.
One of the most unique and eerie sounding albums in all of heavy metal and progressive rock. I have their first album framed on my wall alongside DP In Rock, Uriah Heep s/t, Sir Lord Baltimore's "Kingdom Come", and other classics. Absolutely worship LF's first 2 albums.
IVE GOT STUFF ON MY PLAYLIST
Missing Budgie
I'm here because I love this band
Ditto !
Me too. RIP John Lawton and Dieter Horns....
Sad to hear that John Lawton passed away on 29th Jun 21. Such a great musician gone.
Rest In Peace Mr.John Lawton..🙏🏿🇮🇩
Just recently discovered Lucifer´s Friend through their 2019 album "Black Moon", then I was pointed to this release by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth.
I'm not dissapointed!
John Lawton, Peter Hesslein, Dieter Horns, Peter Hecht, Joachim Rietenbach (plus Herbert Bornhold and Curt Cress) - these guys have recorded some of the best rock albums of the 70-s, not only this one... The band still records decent music and John still sings fantastically! Funny to learn a lot of people came here to listen because of a modern musician. This LF record is timeless as well as some others.
Great songs, great voice, great 70's rock'n roll Band!
Im here only and solely on my super baddass taste for good music!!
Legendary album of great band!
Give it up for bassist Dieter Horns! He's unfreaking real on the bass.
Who else is here thanks to Mikael Akerfeldt?
Me
@@pvmetal4216 Me too
Same.
Me! I can definitely here where he was influenced by them.
For all of you people that were directed here from the Opeth guy,as good as this album is,the real gem of their catalog is their self titled debut from 1970.All time classic heavy rock album.
Bruce Franklin You speak truth Sir. Everyone listen to this advise. Also their NWOBHM album in 81 called Mean Machine is great.
Thanks for this recommendation!
opeth is a prog metal band and he recommended this album due to its prog elements
Is that Bruce Franklin from one of my favourite bands, "Trouble"?
@@eddieg1604 Yes sir.
The first album rocked , this is a good follow up. Great band RIP Mr. Lawton
Наикрутейшие рокеры джон лоутон память на века
Bought this album decades ago. I also have banquet and their stellar first release. Amazing!!!!!! 😀
John Lawton é um grande vocalista!
Lawton's band Stonewall broke up returned to Britain, he stayed in Germany met Hesslein, Horns, Hecht and Reitenbach all members of a band called The German Bonds. They got together in 1970 and became LUCIFER'S FRIENDS.
How lucky was that?
Excellent..thx for the history. Krautrock that never gets mentioned alongside Can, Faust, Amon Duul II, etc etc
Their best. And one of greatest krautrock albums ever.
RIP John Lawton
Good Lord, those drums on Hobo!
Thanks, for the great memories. I also really liked Banquet, the jazzier record with nice horns.
I've always enjoyed the cover on this album.
Lucifers friend is awesome ...
Once again the album opens with an "immigrant song" type of style,as for the rest it has an atomic rooster feel ... Even early b.o.c. was heard in the opener , it was almost Like the sound track to a vincent price movie haha ,as for the cover ,many movie posters come to mind, like suspiria for instance .I wonder if cathedral were inspired at all by them since they were into all that obscure progrock of yesterday.anyway it wasn't bad, definitely would have been into these guys in my heyday had I known sooner.
As a lesser known detail; Hesslein and Hecht also worked with James Last Orchestra.
Timeless.
Masterpiece
Thanks Mikael!
Masterpiece .
I'm here bc their first album was fn mind blowing. How did I not know about this band?
I was raised in excellent music because if my father. Hearing this is like second nature. Its hard to not like this band for any reason.
Superb.....top to bottom....and I have never, never heard even one song from them on radio...ever !
Including Sirius satellite...criminally under-rated.
Viva os 70's! Uma das maiores bandas de todos os tempos! Amo John Lawton!
This is crazy lol. So far ahead of it’s time. Incredible musicianship,
This is so insane..ly brilliant
Incredible album
King Crimson meets Mr. Bungle, have some drinks with Captain Beefhart, Frank Zappa arrives with some magic mushrooms... and the next morning Mikael Åkerfeldt finds all of them drunk asleep at his doorstep.
This is a really unforgettable album. Love it.
ZAPPA never drank or did drugs. I know were you were going just got to let some people know F.Z was sober he just look and sounded like it. ROCK ON MY FRIENDS.
@@dennissweeney6774 We know that. But in describing this album, a bizarre dream sequence like that can be in the imagination.....I dig it!
@@fcamiola i never said that you did not know it was for people who did not know that's all I said .
@@dennissweeney6774 Understood.
Mikael Åkerfeldt made me come here. Not disappointed.
Indiscutible la calidad de esta Banda. Cumpliendo con los más altos estándares que el verdadero Rock exige. Una delicia escuchar esta obra.
good............................
I owned this when I was a kid and didn't like it. Hearing it for the first time years later and I dig it now!!
I can imagine that Dreamtheater listened this once !! ... it is impressive ..... awesome .... gentle giant, yes, genesis even iron maiden ..... they, contemporaries to this work .... impressive ..... I LIKE IT !!!! ... Thanks for these dreams !!
It so happens Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth listened to this :) and reccomended it.
The first Lucifer’s Friend album caught me by surprise. How I never heard of them back in the 70s is beyond me. Anyway this album is slowly growing on me. Must be on about my sixth listen and seeing how there was real growth with this band. I keep hearing how Banquet, their fourth album, is the best they put out. Bought it but haven’t given it a good listen yet. It is about 180 degrees different from the first though from what I have heard.
R.I.P. John Lawton
my brother had this record back in the day and i loved it, couldn´t say how often i listened to it - just found it here again and was curious - well, i went a long way musically since then, haha... :-)
Perfect amazing album, style prog-psych-hard and super voices !!!
I do whatever Mikael Åkerfeldt says...hence my arrival at this vid.
A
hahaha
Indeed
Love this album alooot
Lf forever
One of my favourite albums of all time! Funny though that the main lyricist O'Brien-Docker made such an amazing job on this album but sarcastically famous for Cara Mia by Baccara )))
thanks for uploading. amazing surprise, awesome album.
R.I.P Mr. Lawton.
This sounds so much like early Soungarden. I have to believe Chris Cornell listened to this at some point growing up.
i'm here because of researching Uriah Heep family tree. all i care for Michael A. is his vocals on Katatonia's "Brave Murder Day" which were excellent and thank you.
RIP Dieter Horns
All I have to say is this. There was a lot of spectacular music being created during the 1970 s besides Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
Is that you, Ian?
Zappa is king
Que obra de arte!!!!!!
Muy buen álbum!!!!
Shared on Facebook today this is AWESOME
WOOOOOOOOW!!!!
Thanks, I'm only here for this great band, it's a nice game
Reminds me somewhat of The Flock.
I like this but I kind of wish they had stuck in the metal vein of the first album. This band is very interesting in retrospective. They eluded me back in the day.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer's_Friend
Great....great band!!!
I'm here because I'm not crazy, I'm just slightly dehydrated and focused in my salvation.
If you came here because of Opeth make sure you check out Lucifer's Friend's first self titled album, it's actually even better than this one.
Ehhh maybe, maybe not
Two very different styles and approaches. I enjoy them both. Debut is fairly straight proto metal/ heavy rock with a doomy atmosphere. This album is way more heavy progpsych. There are even hints of Van der Graaf Generator on “Rose In The Vine” and “Mother”.
This is a great album I love their first album also
Only this made me stop listening to Fear Inoculum. I bought the CD immediately.
Haha. I just saw Opeth last week. Saw Mikeal's vid just a min ago, now on this one. And have been listening to fear inoculum continuously for months. Your comment is me lol
Heavy and progressive at the same time. A real grower!
This and some other album streams uploaded to this channel have aged well. I could imagine Dream Theater covering songs by Lucifer's Friend.
Masterpiece. Fav band. Thank you!
When I'm not listening to HEEP I listed to Lucifer's Friend
Favorite song “Prince of Darkness” second is the title track so fucking good.
Best Lucifer's album
Ride the sky
Agreed...banquet also in the discussion
Thanks! these guy's did five different good albums together
This is way more progressive than their previous album, but cool
Oddly enough, it's funky. Drummer kicks ass.
For all those here because of Michael Akerfeldt, he told you to listen to it on VINYL!
Otro buen disco de este gran grupo, gracias por compartir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very good album! Thanks!
Perfect.
This must be Queen's most experimental album. Really, it sound like that to me. And that's a good thing.
MY Jod.. I thought I was the only person that LOVES this album.
That was the label which
had given us Black Sabbath & Uriah Heep.
Toney Tillery Isaiah.
whats a southern jim then ?
Top notch production, impeccable musicianship, the singer is a little pitchy here n there but he's got a great 80s hair band prototype sound, absolutely a refreshing experience, superb.
very cool,thankyou my friend.
Back in the days when german music was real good. Love this band.
Lawtons band returned to England so he formed this band
