It's an awesome rope... so light it's crazy... and I really like the CT rollnlock...I have an extra I will be carrying because they can be used as a pulley also.
Climbing Technology makes top notch equipment, I have a couple foot ascenders from them for when I climbed trees but one thing Im not sure I like is (if Im seeing it right) is what if you get something against the lever and it flips and turns into a pulley, that would suck!
Nice. Richard Mumford has a cool video of testing the CT Roll n Lock and it’s pretty incredible. He puts that device through so much and it holds up. Makes me believe it’ll never ever cut completely through that OpLux when used in this application.
New saddle safety feature for me is no rope man on my tether. Going under bridge with bow release arm can release the rope man if snagged on clothes in my experience. Going back to Prussic.
Any oval carabiner will work, I have a kong which worked well but I switched it to a triple lock, but not sure if I will keep it, it's hard to operate sometimes with one hand.
Ben, it's like a medical tape in camo, I'll see if I can find where I purchased it from. Works well last about a season and then u have to re-do it. I have done a couple with Stealth Strips that stuff stays on for years.
@@MarksWorld-GetOutdoors I'm sorry, your wrong. It is only to keep you from falling back. Put a girth hitch around the tree. I can’t stand the triple auto lock carabiners. I have one and never use it. Good set up Mark, but the Prusik backup looks like it may be a hassle, albeit safer. Once you’re doing that, you have to wonder if it’s easier to just use the Prusik. I have a Kong duck on the way, but that has the same issues.
I’ll play with it throughout the season and see how it works ... if I find that it’s causing issues may change it up ... that’s what’s fun about experimenting with different set up... I ordered Kong’s also but I think they r stuck in a port somewhere
Mark, I have this exact setup with the oplux and the CT. I would like to add the short safety prusik backup, what rope would you recommend for this, and where could I order shorter lengths like this? Thanks
Sheldon I used some of the prusik materials from other saddles that I had purchased. I will let u know that I have removed one of them and am continuing to play with it. I seems to get in the way a lot as I continued to use it.. so the one I removed I ended up tying a loop in the end of the rope and sliding that loop into the carabiner and that way if the CT should fail, which I never think will happen, the loop would catch and stop me from falling.
There are other places to get it, but I did purchase it from Wild Edge, here is a link for u. www.wildedgeinc.com/store/p50/8mm_Tactical_Saddle_Line.html

As you, M Dohring, say in the description (sort of), RollNLocks should be used as an ascender device NOT as a line/lanyard tender. Climbing Technology, who designs & manufactures RollNLock, specifically warns against using it in the way you are planning because of the real likely-hood of the loose end of the "lanyard" flipping over the line enough to 'unlocking' the cam. It doesn't take very much force, as CT explains and I have demonstrated to myself. Yes, you have a prusik back up, but why is it so slack? If the cam unlocks, you will drop in an unpredictable way for an unpredictable distance before the lanyard catches on something and/or all the slack is gone and the prusik stops the fall. I have no idea what might happen to your head (Helmeted, I hope) during such a drop, I for one would not risk it myself so I will continue using more tested and reliable adjustable lanyard constructions.
Most likely will saddle hunt next year. Like the videos. So you back up on your lineman’s belt. Did you make that small rope and if so what knots did you use to secure to carabiner and prusik knot?
Just want to say ,I enjoy your videos. OK , I get where you are coming from..but. Your Sterling oplux rope is rated for @5000 LB and the CT rolnlock is rated for 20 kn @5000 also. When they tested the rollnlock to break point it pulled the outer sheath off the rope at 7.5kn @1400LB (inside rope didn't break and rollinnlock not damaged). The sheath simply backs up to the knot and must break again. So simply having the knot at the end of rope is enough for saddle hunting and no need for prusik. What do you think?
I agree, I have actually removed it from my linemans rope it was getting in the way with all the adjusting i do going up the tree, I did keep it on the tether since that is set it and forget it...

I don’t think it ever will .... like Nico said check out Richard Mumfords testing of the CT Rollnlock... on the one test I think the rope broke at over 6,900lbs and the CT was fine ... freakin amazing ...
Ropeman is rated for 15kn/3,372lbs and is rated for extended use. CT is only rated for 4kn/899lbs in rope clamp configuration which is how you would be using it as a fall restraint. Either one is a very safe option, Might want to read up www.climbingtechnology.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/instruction-manual-rollnlock.pdf
I think his backup is for house personal high amount of caution. I liked his setup, so I mimicked it, but I don't have the backup. do not use that that has a pully feature on it if the rope gets caught on the other side it will go straight to pully mode all by its self i promise it has happen to me if you need to use one like that use the ropeman 1 or the Kong duck that knot will pull through that devise if it sticks in pully mode

wild country ropeman 1 is better and only 40 bucks it is a good piece of gear but is not a true pulley and is had to unlock when loaded and have never seen anyone put a biner through it but guess it would be ok used in the way you are using it
If you use rope on rope to join your Prusik knot to a single rope you will loose around 40% of the strength of the rope. Consider using a Blake's Hitch that way you avoid the rope on rope connection see: ruclips.net/video/NDjCFjw8tFg/видео.html rupert.id.au/srt/images/023.png

Pine pitch is easy to remove! It's a two step process. 1. Use any cooking oil to easily remove the pitch. 2. Use soap to remove the oil.
Top vid. Is the prussik going to be safer slightly shorter though?
To remove pitch use any oil, like a skin so soft or even mayonnaise. Just massage it in and it will break it down.
