    Thank you so much for posting this simplified recipe, and for explaining just what Urad Dal is. I enjoy the whole (darkly skinned) lentils I grew up eating, but now, when I see "white lentils" again, I know to get them. This looks delicious, and I can hardly wait to try it with my homemade roti!

    Of all the kitchen gadgets I have, I do not have a pressure cooker. Can the Urad dal be cooked in a crock pot, rice cooker or just a regular pot? Thanks!

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  5 лет назад +3

      Absolutely yes it can! The Crock-Pot works just fine and I sometimes cook it in mine over a. Of 4 hours on low heat. It actually produces a very delicious and creamy texture. in a regular pot you'll have to bring it up to the boil and then allow it to cook on a simmer probably for about 40 minutes. Hope that helps!

    what does the urad dal taste like? i find i don't like chana dal much, but love red lentils and brown lentils

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  Год назад +1

      I personally find it to have a nutty flavour, and what I like best about it is its cream texture when pressure cooked. It takes longer to cook though and it's best to soak it first, unlike red lentils which will cook quickly.

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks so much! I usually use a pressure cooker, so I go by the whistles. You can make this in a regular stock pot by bringing it to a boil, then reducing the heat and letting it all simmer for 30-40 minutes. Adding some urad dal might increase the time - but if you soak the dal before it will help speed things up a little. Hope that helps!

    Just to say, for maximum flavour, you really do need oil in these recipes..in order to extract out the flavour compounds from.the spices...they componds are oil soluble not water soluble...so, omitting oil will result in a tasteless, insipid curry...not what you want😟

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  3 года назад

    Uses white dal (without the skins) and a pressure cooker. Upbeat and the narrator has a good voice. However, every ingredient is presented with a slow zoom (in or out). Why? Are people really that bored with life? The low-key Indian Zamphir trio backing track was nicely done. I won't be trying this one today: I have black urad dal on hand an no pressure cooker.
