When Mr. Lagerfeld met Madam Co Co in heaven last week, she must of congratulated him on the excellent job he did with her company. I hope he left a successor.
@Benadryl Thunderclap Yeah, she was pretty awful. But you have to wonder why. Unstable childhood, no man would marry her because of her orphaned status, never sure for just how long she'd lead a stable lifestyle. Maybe it was fear, or cowardice, or maybe she felt she had nothing to lose. She most definitely wasn't a content human being.
Most of the dresses we can see in the end scene come from several couture collections by Karl Lagerfeld... maybe a symbol of the eternal style of Coco!
Luis Alejandre Manrique karl lagerfeld passed away today and i was watching this movie and when I saw this wow.. my heart is broken. this is my favorite movie scene
@Luis Alejandre Manrique According to the DVD director's commentary, most of these dresses are vintage from Chanel's earlier collections. The director invited elderly seamstresses who actually worked on these dresses with Madame Chanel, to view the shooting in person (at the actual boutique) where this scene was filmed. The women cried and were overcome with emotion, as memories flooded back.
Fashion comes and goes, elegance will last thro the ages. Madam Co Co was the epitome of class and elegance. She was decades ahead of her time. She was France's greatest treasure.
Judging by the clothes, the ending scene is more like 1960's Chanel. So the models were skinny, like Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy were. What I do find interesting is that they had Audrey play Gabrielle until the end, even though by the time she reopened her Paris boutique after the war, she was getting on a bit.

So sad. She has her fashion but I wonder after Boy's car accident (her lover) if she was ever truly happy. The actress here did an incredible job at portraying the sadness in her eyes, it's so realistic. Apparently after Boy she never found true love again. Although she did sleep with a few high ranking Nazi's during the Third Reich's occupation of France in the 1940's (can't really blame her, they would have otherwise shut down her business and the coco chanel we know of today might never have existed). She was a shrewd businesswoman apparently, she never did anything unless it was for her business. And yes, it's true that she worked everyday until her death. I guess after Boy's death her business became her only love.
