I used to launch F8s on the USS Coral Sea and that cat (catapault) stroke seems extremely short on that French carrier by comparison. The F8s are so light and overpowered , you can see easy they lunch !
@matapan50 thanks for the hommage! yes,the breguet alizé's mission was exactly that:AEW. and the jaguar M proved too heavy, too big for our carriers, too hard to maintain(on the contrary of it's ground version, which you could fix out of chewing gum and staples,mc gyver style ;D) and most of all:too expensive nice beast though
7:39 see the condensation vapor form in the intake of the F-8 when he throttles the engine up? also interesting that i think i saw both Etendards and Super Etendards. This must be an older video than I realized.
Is the amount of sparks created by those Etendards normal? Notice how much more they spark than the F-8. Maybe it looks worse than it is because its almost dark. I've never seen so many sparks created by an arrestor hook before, and I don't even think most metals spark when struck together. Stone on metal, or iron on steel maybe, but steel on steel? There are many different ways to avoid it, anyway. Choose an alloy that won't spark. Put a hard plastic buffer surface on it. Paint the deck. Sparks are kind of dangerous, they are an potential ignition source.
Like how during sword fights every time the two blades strike together huge showers of sparks always result? Oh, wait....they don't. If its anything it's sparking because the very hard paint on the deck, which is effectively like dragging steel on stone. Which certainly creates sparks.
Très certainement des parasites provoqués par les radars du navire situés très près de la personne qui filme. Rappelons qu'il s'agit vraisemblablement d'une vidéo sur bande magnétique.
@MONSTERSPROWINE I know what you mean, just like for the US Navy was so much better when they had F-14's, S-3's, A-7's, and A-6's. All we have now is just Super Hornets and Hawkeyes.
Wow, that carrier is tiny compared to US carriers. Or more accurately, US carriers are ridiculously large. But thanks for not ruining the video with stupid music. I think the Super Etendard is one of the coolest looking planes ever built, not beautiful, but still attractive. The Crusader looks good from some angles, but mostly its just a likeable but homely plane.

Ces Crusaders décollent avec une facilité ! On ne les voit même pas aller jusqu'au bout de la piste, ils décollent avant. Super document !

Sure, the deck's made in metal, as well as the arresting hook, so when the hook hits the deck, that's what it does.
