Touring Brisbane's biggest private cemetery

  • In this video we take a walk around the largest privately owned cemetery in Brisbane where Catholic priests, nuns and brothers are buried side by side in one section, and the departed faithful are buried through the rest of the sprawling cemetery in ornate graves, crypts and mausoleums.
    The largely Catholic Italian influence at this cemetery lends itself to some gorgeous religious iconography, more angels per capita than pretty much anywhere we've seen and some impressive examples of wrought iron work among the alleys of family burial sites.
    During our visit we also answer a question about aspirating - where does the undigested food go?
    Thanks for joining us,
    Until next time, stay safe,

We love finding and reading the unique stones. I will often wander about that person and what kind of life they lived. On that note have wonderful weekend.

    A field trip to the Catholic Cemetery what a great idea😊. Quite a few ceneteries offer tours. Highgate Cemetery in London has some famous 'residents'. I've told you about the olc cemetery in the town where I live. It closed in 1978 and a charitable trust now run it. They are slowly restoring it there's a woodland walk/nature trail. Meeting rooms they have turned the old caretaker's house into an air bnb and the next big project is to restore the catacoombs.😊

      Hi Kim, permanent at this cemetery. 🙂 Not sure if there is capacity for the clergy to reuse graves but the public part of the cemetery is for permanent residents. 🙂💚

    This cemetery is very busy (messy) with all the different stones, markers, mausoleums, too much above ground. In the U.S., cemeteries are much neater, even elegant.

    I have a friend studying dietetics and for that she has to visit a cadaver lab. How would you heavily embalm a body that's been donated to science without damaging the internal organs when aspirating since they need to be intact to study? 🤔

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  Год назад +1

      Hi Cas, great question. Funeral homes will not touch a body that's donated to science, we only store the cadaver for a day till paper work has been finalised with the family and the Uni. Here in Queensland not many of the cadavers are embalmed if they do embalm, the cadaver will not be aspirated. Most of the cadavers are fresh frozen and won't be Embalmed at all. These cadavers are cleaned disinfected then frozen, if I remember from my last visit these cadavers will last around 2 years. The cadaver will be defrosted so students can work on them then re frozen till next needed. Take care 💚💚
