Hollywood actress Minnie Driver is on a mission to find out more about her late father, Ronnie, and his family's background. Minnie's parents were not married, and Minnie only discovered when she was older that her father had a wife and another family all the time Minnie's parents were together. Minnie knows her father was awarded a medal for his role in the battle of Heligoland Bight during World War Two, but is shocked to discover that he apparently threw it away. She sets out to investigate why her father would relinquish such an honour. The trail leads Minnie to relatives she never knew existed, and she discovers a kindred spirit in the family.

That obituary broke me..."the rest is yours, dear, the loneliness ours".
She's such a sweetheart..you can tell from how she talks to Jean
That professor James Moran is very handsome and seems kind.
I’m such a fan of this show. My own dad has gone 13-14 generations back with my family. I just have to give so much thanks to the men and women that devote their lives to history, engaging themselves in something that many would think unremarkable. Thank goodness for them as they connect the dots, do the research and value the importance of our heritage.
Minnie has such a lovely voice!
We forget how well educated and what good quality entertainment there was in the UK in the past. And seeing this family history unwind is a joy!
Minnie Driver is such a lovely person. ❤️👍☺️
Dna is crazy. That's where she got those genes from. Even if she barely had info about her father or his family... It's so crazy to think that there are performers in her family and she ended up being one too even without having previous knowledge of this.
This just confirms it, she's just a really(!!!) lovely person. Wishing you Every possible happiness, especially now that you've found the family you've been missing so much.
Minnie is about as graceful as a person can be.
So wonderful to find family, especially when you didn't know about that part of the family tree. We've been blessed to find cousins, and expand the circle of love we share. So very happy for Minnie, Henry, her Mum and the relatives found. God love them!
That's so wonderful about his laugh. I've always thought her laugh was so charming and honest
Just love her laughter. Such a beautiful woman. Seems kind and fun as well.
What a wonderful journey she's been on.
Amazing that she had relatives that were actors.
I'm not crying, you're crying!
I ammmmm 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Yes! Where's my hankerchief?
You're right. I am.
And she has the funny laugh! Aww I’m crying 🤍
Love Minnie Driver, hands up great Wicklow accent for Circle of friends... Great also all other films, she is great
I am so invested in this. I love Minnie.
Just love this woman. She is fantastic
I hope they had a chance to meet off camera
I'm loving this. I recently got a pile of pictures of my grandmother. I found out what school she went to and what year she graduated and found and bought her yearbook off ebay!! Graduated in '48 in Philadelphia. It was such fun! Found out she was president of the band. So amazing to found out more about one's family. So happy to see Minnie found out more about her family. It is a treat. ❤️
here in Austria we have many church records digitalized, i can basically look into them from wherever i want. Thats cool, but without help you don't get far...
@@christoffellner84 I'm in the USA, and I know the Morman Church keeps very good records like that. I found one distant relative on social media when she was researching for family
My grandma also lived on Philadelphia. What part of Philly did ur grandmother live?
My grandma lived in North East Philly. My mom graduated from Olney high school in 1946.
What a grand journey finding out so many fascinating and intriguing people and hidden events in her family's past!
Amazing I love all kinds of history I would love to find all bout my family's history can see in her face she is amazed 👏
Minnie what a lovely, lovely soul you are and clearly it runs in your family
These shows really touch the heart and teach us about the history of people throughout time.
really shows the human side of these celebrities simply speaking to a long lost first cousin.
what a dreamboat the uncle was!
Minnie Driver - a National Treasure.
Lovely to connect with family. All we have is each other.
How sad they wouldn't meet with Minnie.... They ARE family...💔😖🥺🙏🏻
The narrator didn't say that her cousin Jean didn't want to meet with Minnie, she said that Jean didn't want to meet with Minnie "on camera".
Which I interpret as for what ever reason, her cousin Jean didn't want to be filmed and put on the show.
@@garystrahan4601 it must be a shock when you find out you're related to someone famous when you didn't know they existed.
I hope the two had a chance to meet off-screen.
They dud meet.
I love this programme!
She visited Jean in the next video. She took flowers and biscuits and they had a lovely time.
That’s a different Jean.
You've watched them the wrong way round 😂
Such a wonderful story
Priceless ✨
This is awesome.
Quite lovely. I am somewhat ashamed, but I was hoping to discover how her uncle passed away.
Me too!
@Darin Singleton The obituary notice for Leslie Stancliffe does not mention a cause of death. If it had been from an accident, or after an illness, they may have reported that. The fact that Minnie does not ask on camera, and the theatre historian does not reference the cause of Leslie's death, at age 38, leads me to guess that this omission is out of respect and privacy for his daughter, Jean. Leslie's death certificate would most probably show this information. On a brighter note, the history of repertory theatre in Britain is lots of fun.
@@comealongcomealong4480 Indeed.
This is so cool
How cool, love Minnie
How marvelous!
She looks just like her uncle
Isn't Minnie just gorgeous!
Wow at 3:50 Leslie’s wife looks exactly like Joanne Froggatt from Downton Abby
Who wouldn't fall in love with Minnie Driver. My moms family tree goes to County Cork Ireland .The name Moore. My dads family tree goes back to the UK. The name Ballard. Ive tried to do research but the irish side disappears when they arrive in America during the potato famine and dads disappeared before they came to America . im a cowboy in texas and im very proud of my roots. My moms dad was of the Cherokee nation
I wonder why Jean didn't want to appear on camera?
Least they kept on contact though ☺
Wow!!! How about?!!
❤️
LOL, at 0:58 ... Is that Rodney Dangerfield? ... HaHa
He looks like her
Leslie spoke dialects NOT accents.
Silent movies? I wonder if any of them survived. I wonder what he died of, so very young.
1:18 Joe Pesci
Now there’s a mini I’d like to drive!
