Update. This was filmed this morning. It’s currently pouring again right now which is the bummer. Since we don’t have proper drainage I am outside every hour trying to pump out water and detour it. So it’s still super sucky but it is what it is. I’m blessed to be able to vent and tell y’all the story ❤️ Thanks for watching y’all!

I know how disheartening it is, my basement flooded so we had to tear everything out and I had to refinish it. The best solutions I can think of are for you to dig around the perimeter of the shed and put in drain tiles and a sump pump with the discharge piped towards the front of your house. Otherwise if you can lift that shed onto a raised block foundation or if you’re gonna buy a new one put that one in on a raised foundation.

Had the same issue on eastern shore. I was not knowledgeable on how important drainage is when I purchased my property. We had one big flood in 2020 and it really shed light on the severity on the problem. Had to basically bite the bullet and start fresh, tore down our disconnected garage and removed our old wooden fence. Rented a bobcat and brought in about 10 cubic yards of soil, a weekend of grading with the skid steer and some new grass seed. Rebuilt our garage on a higher concrete slab, installed a new fence. We raised the entire back yard about 8 inches from where it was before. With that being said, naturally every time we get a heavy rain for a few days my anxiety rises do to the past flooding instances but I can say "starting over" was the best decision for us. Have not had an issue since and I can sleep sound at night no matter what the weather throws at us, to an extent. That shed is sick and I understand it has sentimental value as well as it only happens ever so often. But the headache, stress and worry will eat you apart as a homeowner and a provider EVERYTIME it rains for more than a day. Its better to do it the right way once than add band aid after band aid in the meantime. Tear it down, get your yard regraded, add drain basins and French drains all the from the back of the property routed to lowest part (which seems like the front.) Invest in exactly what you mentioned, some prebuilt shed, even with the grade fixed, still have it sitting on concrete blocks and make that thing bigger and better than this setup. At that point you've done pretty much everything you can do to prevent such a poor experience. You got this and we support you, Keep up the great work!

You could put channel drains around the shed. Tie them into a pump box and put in a sump pump with a low travel float valve. Then dig a trench to the front of the house by the storm drains on the road. Lay pvc and tie it into your pump and your gold. It will not use electricity during dry weather, but when the system starts to flood it will pump it out at 80gallons per minute.
Will be a lot cheaper than putting a new shed. And you can extend the channel drains to catch water buildup in the garden as well.

This is so sad, I'm so sorry. My house (and game room) also flooded very recently because the people that sealed the foundation didn't do it right. But I didn't have nearly this much stuff in my game room to get damaged in the first place, and everything of value was lifted off the floor several inches and it only ever got up to 2 inches deep. Spent an entire month dealing with constant flooding downstairs and in my game room until the foundation drainage was fixed. Got our drainage system fixed now though, so wont have to worry about that again anytime soon. Really hope you manage to recover from this; flood damage is the worst for a game room.

Properties are supposed to drain from the backyard, around the sides of the property, and down the driveway. This should not have happened. Probably said by others, but you're going to have mold start growing if you don't do a proper dry out.
If you rebuild, I suggest to raise the new shed at least 12" to get it out of harms way in the future. Build it bigger and better while you're at it! Best of luck!

    Hi,
Follower from Belgium where it always rains!
Don't throw away those electronics. Dry them out properly. They can be dried and still work perfect. But really wait a couple of weeks.
You can make some drainage around you current shed. Just dig a pit a the lowest point. Concrete it out and then put a pump there when it starts to rain. We have pumps here that get acitvated when the water gets to high. See that you have a hose long enough to reach the street sewers. You could put like a nice metal roster on the pit

  • @quakecon2009
    @quakecon2009 Год назад

For a simple fix I would put a false floor inside the room and basically raise everything 6-12 inches off the ground.
Invest in a cheap electronic pump which is setup and ready to be flicked on and into action.
Work on some kind of drainage.
Don't put anything directly onto the floor, even if you raised the floor, if you have a PC or arcade cabinet on that floor, stick it on some wooden blocks to give it a few extra inches.
All of those things will increase your chances by at least 50%where only a big flood will get you, in which case, be smart around the flood season or time of year and move the most vulnerable stuff out, if you got a few friends around they could empty that room in no time.

This summer. Tear it down and raise it up a foot or two. As it sits now there is nothing you can do to fix the water problem. it's still going to flood regardless of how you set up a drainage system because the ground is not completely level. Even if it were you probably would still problems because the building sits so low.
It wont take long. You could easily build a new building In a weekend if you have the friends to help and the building supplies ready to go. Biggest hold up will be the electrical/building inspection (if needed in ca) but it will be worth it.

I really hate this for you & your family. Here in Kentucky, this kind of flooding is common in some areas. So it's also common to see out-buildings elevated. The easiest & fastest way, is to jack up each corner & place a premade footer or a number of cinder blocks under each corner. We actually had to do that to ours, last year. Haven't had a problem since. You've put a lot of work into your shed, so I definitely think it's worth saving.

I built a big game room last year and that's raised on blocks with steps at the front. Not that I have flooding issues but it's easily done. Vid of the build is on my channel which might help. Re use the electrical that's already there. I built mine in 2 days. £2500 for materials. Fingers crossed for you dude. Really hope you get it sorted 🙌🤙

The water funnels down to that corner of the lawn. The best thing to do would be to build a new one off to the left side of the lawn and have a higher platform floor.

Sorry my dude it definitely is a crappy situation, but you got some good friends on the flip side. This was a crazy storm we had for sure, the 5 FWY was completely flooded and shut down at Main Street exit going northbound too. Just a bump in the road, love that you let us watch what you love to do. Keep going!

Dude that really sucks hope not too much was lost, I've seen how much work you have put into the shed over the years. I think it might be time to replace with a prebuilt one from home depot like you mentioned. Or possibly consider building an extension or add-on to the house. Best of luck to you all.

I’m so sorry to hear that your game room got flooded. Hopefully you didn’t lose too much. My recommendation is to tear it down, and replace it with a shed that is raised. Also, make sure to put gutters on the building, and make sure the drainage runs away from the building.

It's gonna be a family and friends investment too, cause they'll be able to enjoy it as well. And maybe have it on a raised platform too 😊

Your property actually has excellent drainage. Your house is built at the top of the grade like it should be and all of the water drains to the back of the property. This is how most properties are designed in America. It is designed this way to keep the water out of your home. That shed was later built right where all of the water drains but it probably didn’t mater because at one time that shed was probably used to store a lawnmower and some tools. You might want to bring the game room in the house. It’s just going to keep flooding.

Sandbags (they make long snake like ones to cuve) or the inflatable water bags used to prevent flooding are extremly useful and people tend to underestimate their effectivness. If you know it will rain for a long time in the future maybe get a few and set them up on the inside and outside of your door.
Also tearing it down is recommend in my opinion. With extensive water damgae the chance for mold is astronomically high. Even with dehumidifiers you won't be able to remove all the water from the floor/wall/items/wherever else it seemed into. And you defiently do not want mold in your video game room. Mold might also start develping behind the walls/under the floor which removing it would be more of a pain than just rebuilding.

Sorry to see this happen to you!! If you do replace the shed, you should try building it where it's raised up in case you get flooding again. Leave like 2 or 3 feet under it to be safe....just a thought...hope you can save alot of stuff!!

Just build a raised subfloor, {8"-12" higher} extend the walls a few feet for more headroom and raise the roof higher. Then the entire shed will be higher off the ground and allow water to flow underneath. Then ya don't need to rebuild from scratch.

Could install better drainage, tons of gravel dumped deep, but jacking the place up and putting in a cinderblock foundation would be ideal. Looks light enough to lift when empty.

Once it dries out, might be a good idea to jack up each side and slide a 2x4 under there. That will raise it up 1.5” per board.

Sorry for the frustrating circumstances my guy. I agree, not a shed construction issue. With the slope of your yard pitching off away from the house, your shed is not in the ideal spot.
I'm not familiar with California building codes as I operate out of the East Coast, but jacking that shed up may certainly be an option. I'd first look into retention landscaping (might be a cheaper route to travel first).
All the best, and with how you guys operate I'm sure you'll replenish the lost stock in no time. Stay up!

I wonder if you could create a square/rectangular patio that covers that entire area next to the shed by digging it out 4-5 inches, putting down sand and filling it with river rock. It would promote drainage and you could set some patio chairs up etc.

i was face palming knowing all that water you was pumping was coming right back lol real cool of the neighbor to let you pump over. as for electronics, any that wasnt powered just let sit for a few weeks to dry and your good. Now as for the building if u wanna save money and time. Lift the building with jacks and put it on blocks to keep it well above flooding happening again.

You need to add a French drain , a tube with fabric at home depot. The French drain will handle the ground water you can direct it, sounds hard but simple and cheap, also rain gutters to help mitigate where water can go drain it into the French drain.

  • @JDrums1

wish you the best! Build a new shed higher of the ground with a couple of steps going up to it but before placing the shed address your draining issues, maybe a permanent sump in that area that will auto kick on when it hits a certain level.

Buy a used ocean container about 2500 to 4000. Build a little pony wall with cinder blocks. Cheap!! Put on some down spouts from the roof to the sides. Waterproof the roof and wire it up. You can insulate it if you want or use 1 x 2 frame on walls to hang your stuff from. Good luck!!

make a solid foundation for your new gaming shed or whatever you want to call it. solid cement in half a meter or maybe exactly a meter above ground in the dimensions you want to make the shed? or maybe a couple of "light expanded clay aggregate" (LECA) to cut costs down. just make sure the foundation is good before placing them.

Not sure if this will be read, but when it comes to electronics partially submerged in water, you can (albeit not in all cases of course) try to open the product (if it's a console for example) and let a big fan blow air at the components non-stop for a few days (maybe in a dedicated space for that of course, not to have to deal with the wind and noise). If it dries up completely it can work again. I've done that successfully before with a Sega Game Gear (no batteries inside when the water got in though, important to mention). I opened it completely and placed each pieces I could separate on some cardboard and let a big fan blow air at them for about 3 to 4 days (no interruption). Then re-assembled the whole thing, put the batteries in and it worked again. I was surprised but hey, could be worth a shot to do it for other products.
Of course I don't think it would work every time for everything but maybe this can help. I also recall reading about PC components like a graphics card, or a dedicated audio card (old stuff though) that can be put in an oven (or a mini oven, or nowadays perhaps an air dryer) to make sure it's all dry and all the water molecules evaporate properly. I wish you the best recovery possible Pixel. But, in the end, it's material, right? It's all tied to nostalgia of course I do get that, it sucks. But it can be recovered / found again / bought again over enough time (it's not a rush, it's material, everyone is safe and that's the best part).

Oh man...this is hard to watch. So sorry this happened. I'm in central CA and it's been insane the amount of rain we've been getting...my sister's livingroom flooded because of the same drainage issues. I've lived here my whole life and can't remember the last time it's rained this much here. Really hoping you can salvage most of it. I love your channels and I know this won't stop you from making videos and doing what you love. Would actually be really rad to see a series of you rebuilding the game room...Keep your spirits up man!
