The nervous kid then gets to witness an argument, knives, blood, and bodies as this song plays in the background.

Imagine being responsible for that insane amount of Internet history. Truly superhuman.

the automatic assumption of irony when dealing with mashups as a genre is challenged by neil cicierega's albums. that's like... if there is any "point" it's that, i think, as shown by the fact that the first song in the two-album experience is samples from All Star by Smash Mouth set to the tune of the high-class, "deep and complex music" classical song "Pictures at an Exhibition: Promenade" by Mussorgsky. the contrast between both the sort of joked about early 2000s/late-90s crappy pop-rock stuff, and the mashup genre itself, and high society stuff like mussorgsky is, i think, carrying a message of there not really being a difference between any of those things, and music can be awesome and enjoyable to listen to even if it is made out of other music

This, wndrwll, and bustin were the first mouth songs I heard of Neils. I later binged all 3 albums, immediately downloaded, and now I show them to my friends all the time.
Listening to this makes me remember all the things I angsted over as a teenager while listening to the original System version, that I have now fully owned and embraced and made into a rewarding part of my life. I swear in this version my lungs run out of air more often than with the original song. The scream-orgasm parts is so well edited it sounds like you are entering to heaven and stuff like that

This, wndrwll, and bustin were the first mouth songs I heard of Neils. I later binged all 3 albums, immediately downloaded, and now I show them to my friends all the time.
Listening to this makes me remember all the things I angsted over as a teenager while listening to the original System version, that I have now fully owned and embraced and made into a rewarding part of my life. It's a weird kind of triumph I did not realize that only Neil Cicierega's madness could evoke.

When I was 13 I went out to Sydney and saw Elton John with my Elton-mad grandmother. I still love her, but god if she didn’t hate me when I was screaming Chop Suey when he came out for the encore to play this song.
