Howdy! If you'd like to give this recipe a try and have an air fryer (or maybe want to get one after this video) here's the steps with some hints and tips I found along the way! Good luck barrylewis.net/recipe/air-fryer-bread/
As a baker I can tell you the reason why the loaf doesn't have the crispier outside is due to the lack of steam within the air fryer. Typically when you bake bread at home you should add water into the oven so that the bread can be steamed to help give it that glossy crispy shell
During the pandemic our stove broke and i was cooking 3 meals a day in the air fryer.. It's really a very small convection oven and once you learn to adjust the temperatures and times, its incredible what you can do it in..
Use an instant read thermometer to determine if your bread is done. If the top is getting to brown, flip it over and let it brown on the bottom. Add a little water in the bottom of the fryer about half way through baking, just a tablespoon, or so for a denser crust.
We've had our airfryer several years now. Stuff from the freezer, frozen baquettes, sweet buns etc. fast and good. Anything battered, crispy surface, still moist inside. Sis got some mini baking tins etc. So one person frittatas, casseroles, oven style omelettes & mug cake recipes. Besides fries, potato wedges. Anything that an oven can do, airfryer can do, but way faster.
I have an air fryer. 6.7 litre capacity. I love it. I have done fries, bacon, chicken pieces, whole chicken, ribs, frozen biscuits, and more. Success every time! Tip - if you use precut parchment paper, make sure you only put it in when the food item goes in. Do not put it in during preheating, because of the fan it will move around and burn up.
My sister mentioned the other week that she made a cheese toastie in their air fryer so I tried it in ours and it works great and doesn't have the issue of the cheese being as hot a lava so you can ear it right away. After seeing this I might try making the bread in it too at some point and then make a toastie using that bread.
I made the cheese toastie in mine yesterday and it’s changed my life, my rental doesn’t have a toaster and I don’t eat toast enough to warrant buying one so this is great
I'm trying this tomorrow! I have a bucket. Your video was great and saved me from making a bigger loaf. I will try the smaller loaf and flatten the dough to fit the bucket a little better.
Great Video Barry - in regards to your glasses have you tried getting prisms - I just got new glasses between Xmas and NY - and for the first time i had them made with Prism correction - such a game changer! - i can see clearly now the glasses are perfect... i had to SORRY... but yeah it might be worth looking into. From Maria, Billund Denmark - who has been using glasses her whole life.
@Barry Lewis Yeah, seems like it did good -- some soft bread like that would never go amiss in my house! The bake function on mine produces a harder crust so I'll have to try the air fry function with this recipe, and see how it all plays out.
As a specs wearer, dont worry about the flaring, you get used to it and turning head a bit more to accommodate it. I started having to use varifocals 2 years ago and weirdly, literally got home 30mins ago from picking up new pair. Stick with it, its really odd for a week or two but before you know it, you wont even think about it. 👍
Second that. I freaked out totally in 2019 when I got them, and it took a week. But I now can actually see signs while driving, which was the thing that broke the camel's back.
Nice video. I wonder if you pushed the large loaf dough into the corners of the pan, so that it rises square, would prevent it touching the element and potentially let it cook through?
Is it any good Dough? Barry, I found this channel by chance and I'm very glad I did. Also, I love the simple "Yay" to the answer you gave your little person.
Don’t worry about the “warped” effect of your glasses. Have been wearing that kind for years and it’s amazing how fast the brain sorts that issue out! Great video. Have a bucket type air fryer and have had bread, bread rolls & baking cakes on my to experiment with this year. 😃
@didee5336 I stopped wasting money on warped glasses years ago. Now I just buy them with plus one or whatever at the supermarket. It works better, you can afford to change it when you need it, and you save a lot of money.
I just got a new air fryer last week. We have made small steaks in it, YUMMY,😊 french fires & onion rings. Delicious! Today I made Nutella crescent rolls! Excellent!
I absolutely LOVE my air fryer. It has a basket as well and as for the crisping tray (the removable bit) you’d be shocked how non stick everything is. So far I’ve cooked, lobster tails, all sorts of chicken, pork chops, biscuits, baked potatoes, grilled cheese, several types of fish, the list goes on. I’d love to see you do more air fryer videos. Especially for those of us who can’t use or don’t have access to a traditional oven. Keep up the great work mate.
Yeah Barry, I had to start wearing rigid contacts about 15 ish years ago now and aside from it feeling like a brick in your eye for weeks the lensing effect is very real. It took me about 2 or 3 weeks to get used to it and it got worse before it got better. After a week or so I started to feel physically nauseous when I put them in but eventually your brain adjusts and you don't even notice anymore than eventually you get to the point where its actually worse not wearing them. It just takes time :)
My Mum taught me to make bread at the age of 10, now I'm 65 and I've never thought of making bread in my airfryer. I've used my Instant Pot to proof the dough which works wonderfully. I will try to airfry it next time I make bread. I hope Chloe feels better soon and your eyeballs change to a baseball shape.
I can't remember the last time I used my oven. I prepare everything in my fryer. My favorite dish is salmon and pork tenderloin. Of course french fries are delicious and greT not using oil. I have purchased accessories from Amazon and I have made lasagna and baked Ziti. I have never been disappointed. So glad your back, you were missed.
I will have to try bread from scratch in my air fryer some time. I've used it often for cooking those part baked bread rolls and baguettes from the supermarket (I do 155C for about 6 minutes, no preheating needed). A great way to have freshly baked bread quickly and with a lot less electricity needed compared to the same thing in the regular oven. Roasted veg is good in the air fryer, breakfast foods too (hash browns, sausages, fried slice, also veggie bacon - not sure if proper bacon works as I'm vegetarian). Maybe try doing a full English in the air fryer and microwave?
I used to make bread rolls in my air fryer when I wanted to have just a few rolls to eat for myself. It works perfectly and takes a lot less time because there's no pre-heating involved. Though I think only softer breads can be baked there because the stiffer and drier breads will just dry out because of the way how it is cooked in general.
Hi lovely from the UK. Loved the honesty in this video. Have got a Power XL.Vortex. It has holes around the basket . So the heat gets through quicker. But have found like you have. The underneath doesn’t cook. So what I do is turn it over to finish off cooking. That’s if the dough is cooked more than yours. I want to try doughnuts in my air fryer. It is cheaper to run though. 😊
I've been binge watching your other videos. Finished the cheap vs steep, 4321 recipes, and Barry tries playlists... Really excited for new videos. 😊😁☺️
Like Adam regusia said. Air "fryer" are just small convection ovens. So of course you can make bread and cake in it. As a single I recommend one for energy saving reasons. And they are heating much faster then an oven. I still think fryer is the wrong term for it tho.
I enjoy making personal serving of fries, wings, burger, pizza, etc. with the airfryer. If I'm cooking larger batches, I would use the oven or other appliances.
I have an 'air fryer/toaster oven' that I've used for years to make all sorts of things, including bread. Energy use is way lower than firing up the stove oven and the bread comes out just fine, top and bottom. I still check the internal temperature for about 195F (90C) for doneness. Thanks for showing your experiment.
Hi Barry. the flaring out is the distortion on the sides of a progressive lense (so you can see near and far). After about a month or a few weeks of wearing them you won't notice it. I'm surprised whoever sold you them didn't warn you. For now be especially careful going down stairs as you may not be seeing where the step actually is. After all that, I want to say I love your videos in every format you have! Thanks again!!
So glad I saw this Lesson in my YT Feed. My bread maker says it will make dough for buns and pizza crust. Thinking I'll bring raw dough to my Daughter's house and try out her air fryer. LOL I would try making smaller loaves. Thanks for the demo.
Fun fact: air fryers are not actually fryers because they, well, use air, they are more like mini convection ovens.......never mind, he mentioned that. Your puns are great, so glad I subscribed to this channel.
Thankyou for this I’ve got the exact same air fryer in the summer. I use it all the time. I have made bread rolls but didn’t think to try a whole loaf so I’ll give it a go. If you could do more air fryer recipes that be great 👍 you
Hi Barry, interesting video, we bought an Airfryer Oven to try and use less energy. We'd previously had the 'bucket type' and had cooked loads of different recipes in it with varying results, but overall they were more than acceptable. The new 'toy' is excellent, has around 21 different settings, we've cooked roasts, cakes, biscuits and bread already, all have been really good. I'm definitely a convert. A word of advice if I may, I wouldn't use the one-cal type sprays in an airfryer, they can definitely damage the non-stick lining. Cheers!
I have a round air fryer like you , so I make my bread in my bread maker. It takes hours but is more economical than the electric oven , smells wonderful , and tastes delicious 😋.
Hi Barry. Loved your video on the air fryer. I have the smaller version to your model. I have cooked baked salmon and broccoli parcels. Bacon wrapped chicken breast with green beans parcel. I've done roasted mediteranean veg with Cod parcel. I am still experimenting. But it is amazing and very economical. Keep up thegreat videos. 🤗💗🙏
One of my favorite things to make in an air fryer is ravioli. Usually I do this when there are leftovers after cooking ravioli for dinner. Non-sauced, boiled ravioli. Make a mixture of olive oil, decent amount of salt, and whatever dry spices you like (usually I pick paprika, onion powder and garlic powder). The amount depends on how much ravioli you're using, but make enough of the oil and spice mix to coat them all completely. Fry them in batches so that they sit in your air fryer basket in a single layer. 380F (193C), or whatever the closest temperature setting on your air fryer is, for 15 minutes. Make sure to flip them after 7 or 8 minutes before letting them finish. Makes an excellent snack.
@@mrbarrylewis i didn't like the price either, my hubby surprised me with it. It does so much. Beef stew ( an American thing?) From frozen to done in under an hour, Cinnamon rolls, I even dehydrated some real flowers to use in my dollhouses, along with a garden of spices among other things. Grandkids use it more than me when they are here. And NO I'm not sponsored. Lol
I have that one too. I love using the pressure cooker. I made meatballs last week in less than half an hour. I've made pot roast for dinner on a weeknight. And there's a pasta dish in the cookbook that came with it that uses the pressure cooker to do the sauce and pasta and the air fryer to brown the cheesy top and it comes out great every time.
@@kellylaliberte548 watch the salted pepper for awesome ninja recipes. I found that her times for pressure are less than the manual. Meat comes out much more tender.
Hey Barry, welcome back, missed the shenanigans, if your eyes don't adjust after 2-3 weeks of wearing your glasses as your ophthalmologist recommended, go back to the optician and explain the problem. I've been lucky with my astigmatism adjustments that the warp with glasses is minimal. My sister-in-law walked around with migraines and dizziness for nearly three months because her optician forgot to put in an astigmatism adjustment in her first pair and, in her words, any movement was like being drunk. If they're properly adjusted, the worst you should get is like, seeing a curve in a large ikea wardrobe that your spirit level and perfectly sighted spouse can't detect. Or maybe the optician is wrong and my bedroom is haunted by the world's laziest ghost.
We had the bucket version but found it a bit limiting however we have now got a big 11 litre one with wire wracks etc in and we love it, it has the rod for spit roasting a chicken, its stunning how it cooks stuff, we love it :)
I've got an Emeril 360. It really does work. It air fries, bake, broil, toast, Rotisserie, slow cooks, reheats, and even has a presetting for a frozen pizza that it programs the time and temperature for mostly any frozen pizza.
I tried to do cake (yes, I put a pyrex with batter inside the thing) in the air fryer and had the same issue than the second loaf, it looked beautiful but the center/inside/bottom was raw
I've got an airfryer and it's fantastic, it roasts, bakes and fries, it the best thing I have ever bought, bread is good in the airfryer but you should add some water under the grill plate to create steam
I haven't got an air fryer like that, but I did try to make bread in a slow cooker. It was a bit heavy and had a very tough crust, but it wasn't burnt and was cooked right through. Maybe you can try that one?
I have used my air fryer almost every day since getting it a couple months ago. I cooked dinner buns in it. Fries of course, fish, vegetables, reheating is great, I use it to make morning toast, even eggs etc.
I've so far cooked fish, chips, pies, pasties, sausage rolls, sausage and kale bake, and a korean-style beef stew in the air fryer. I noticed anything that uses liquid does need a little more else it dries real fast even if you adjust cooking time/temp.
I was making bread rolls for the holidays and after waiting for my oven to heat, it died. I tried using the air fryer and I was blown away lol. Over they years of trying air fryers out, It's tough baking unless you know good conversion for temp and time. Aside from that is what went wrong on your 2nd attempt, Ratio of size. Right now I am only using an air fryer / toaster oven style which are nice. A lot closer to normal toaster oven operations, but having to flip the food half way, just to get good color. Which brings to my last piece of knowledge I've found making cinnamon rolls. Certain foods now have air fryer instructions, which is priceless for the most part. Pillsbury rolls say to flip the rolls half way through cooking, so its even cooking and browning. Also check out Pro Home Cooks, he does so much with air fryers.
"everyone got an air fryer for Christmas" - same! I specifically asked for one after hearing good things about it. Since then I've been using it almost daily.
I love this video! You need to try No Knead Bread by Jim Lahey!. You do not need to prepare the yeast at the start. Also you could try slow cooker bread by Jack Monroe ,which is nice and soft!
As far as the glasses are concerned, I was told at a young age I needed them. But, the whole "specky four eyes" thing in the playground got to me and from then I tended to avoid them. Now, in my late middles they are pretty much on the face from first to last. Without them the world is out of focus and all blurry. Some would say that's a gift, but not when you're looking for something. I was given a Tower air fryer for Christmas. Just a little one, ideal for a couple or single person. I still haven't used it since reading an article and watching a video of one on fire. The woman said it was perfectly clean and was just cooking some bacon at the time. I get tempted to use it every now and then. This recipe might be my first attempt...If I can get the courage up and running. 😄
I was wondering whether the loaf was actually touching the heating element, based on where it was burning. I would like to have seen you press the ball a bit flatter before placing it into the device.
Perhaps you could have tried taking out the rack thing so that the loaf could have more room to rise, and then perhaps, after allowing it to cook for a while, ether turned the temperature down and cooking it longer, and/or turning the bread upside down so the bottom cooks . BTW, is there somewhere on your site where the ingredient amounts for your recipes are shown?
Been cooking bread in the airfryer for the last 12 months. First pre heat the air fryer. 5min @ 80oC. Second place the dough in a round tin the slightly smaller than the basket to help browing the bottom. Then flatten the dough a little to stop it burning on top. We have a 10lt basket on ours and cook everything from chicken to wedges. The only thing I don't like in it is steak. Everything else cooks great. Scones are awesome in the airfryer.
Seeing the texture of the ends of the bread, it's made me curious. Isn't the idea of like, using an airfryer for bread similar to those breadmakers you can get? The ones that kneed the dough and cook it over time? I think I've got one at my place. Although maybe it's more, the entire tub thing the loaf goes in heats up...hmm
My Mother bought me the Ninja foodie max a couple of years ago and it does everything. It air fries, slow cooks, steams, pressure cooks. Great piece of kit and it saves you storing all the other kitchen items. It is though.
Howdy! If you'd like to give this recipe a try and have an air fryer (or maybe want to get one after this video) here's the steps with some hints and tips I found along the way! Good luck barrylewis.net/recipe/air-fryer-bread/
Just wondering if could a chocolate croissants in there. Maybe do will it air fryer one
New idea Air Fryer tea service???!!!!🧐🧐
You got her to eat the heel of the bread. Lol
I see you got your air fryer from Argos
Shouldn't you slash the bread first?
As a baker I can tell you the reason why the loaf doesn't have the crispier outside is due to the lack of steam within the air fryer. Typically when you bake bread at home you should add water into the oven so that the bread can be steamed to help give it that glossy crispy shell
good idea, with the grill shelf in our i can add some water in the bottom without it soaking the bread, might try that.
what do you think of the egg wash, I don't think it's a good idea on bread, only on cakes?
The old air fryer does a good job as it has a halogen light over the top.
Absolutely
Also the fact there was milk used in the recipe, it's more like sandwich bread recipe than basic bread
Really hope this is the start of a air fryer series. So many people have one now but are not using it to full potential.

I've got a combo air fryer that also bakes normally, so I've never tried to use the actual air frying function to do bread... this'll be fun!
Oh that's awesome! Yeah this was a budget air fryer really, but it did the job to be fair!
@Barry Lewis Yeah, seems like it did good -- some soft bread like that would never go amiss in my house! The bake function on mine produces a harder crust so I'll have to try the air fry function with this recipe, and see how it all plays out.

Makes an excellent snack.
would you not turn the bread over for part of the cook time to allow it to cook through we always turn the loaf in our oven for the last 10 minutes
I was hesitant about my ninja multi cooker. I can't understand why. I love that thing. Rarely use my big stove. It does pretty much everything
Nearly got one of those but wasn't sure with the price! Sounds promising!
Welcome back. Was having withdrawals. Best RUclips channel ❤️ STONKIN'👍👍
could you flip and bake the raw bottom after the top is done?
Exciting stuff. Great job on this one too.
welcome back Barry! hope you had a good vacation!
I have one off those as well. Fantastic
Brilliant ain't they, best thing ive ever had, ive got a chicken in as i type this and im so looking forward to it
@@lucywilkinson6045 Hope the chicken was good!
It was lush thankyou :)
I've got an Emeril 360. It really does work. It air fries, bake, broil, toast, Rotisserie, slow cooks, reheats, and even has a presetting for a frozen pizza that it programs the time and temperature for mostly any frozen pizza.
Nice to have you back!
I tried to do cake (yes, I put a pyrex with batter inside the thing) in the air fryer and had the same issue than the second loaf, it looked beautiful but the center/inside/bottom was raw
Glad to see you back Barry! Cannot wait for the opening of the outdoor kitchen. Hope Ashens is invited to its opening. 🎉
Maybe you can try that one?
the small loaf you never showed the middle part, was it cooked? You only ate the edges.
I have an air fryer. I’ve not used it yet though but I’m going to try to make the small loaf - thanks!
My airfryer has a basket and a cakepan. I use it a lot. Inalso use tinfoil, to stop things from burning, like cheese on pizza, or a cake or pie.
Good to see you back fella!
I've missed you, so glad you had some time away.
I was wondering whether the loaf was actually touching the heating element, based on where it was burning. I would like to have seen you press the ball a bit flatter before placing it into the device.
Back in the day we used Halogen ovens , they were huge glass air fryers basically .
It could do a pizza/foccacia? Especially if you start the base in a pan...
Forgot how much I missed watching these-looking forward to the new videos!
Although maybe it's more, the entire tub thing the loaf goes in heats up...hmm
just got my bucket air-fryer and I am PRIMED for some epic Barry air fryer content................
I love my Ninja. I've not done bread, bit I know that the slow cooker setting on low can be used for providing g dough
My Mother bought me the Ninja foodie max a couple of years ago and it does everything. It air fries, slow cooks, steams, pressure cooks. Great piece of kit and it saves you storing all the other kitchen items. It is though.
what about the shelf air fryers with the rotisserie feature, there good, we have one
