    My first HP build (in 1978) Pontiac 400 for my 71 GTO. Put the motor together and she was looking good. And then..... someone forgot to put the connecting rod between the oil pump and the distributor in. Turned the motor over took the pan off, and oil pump and made it right. Live and learn.

      My first Pontiac build was also a 400 and I didnt realize the distributor turns backwards from a chevy, didnt want to start, backfiring/popping........an uncle told me they run ccw. Live & learn. I was like 17 then.

    I think those 2 rear ports that you plugged are to make a coolant cross-over system in the rear of the heads. You can also bring each side up individually into a Y fitting then into the front if you didn't have sensors.

    Glad to see you back bro! Rpm air gap is probably gonna create more traction problems. I had one on my 402 big block. I took it off and installed a single plane intake. The car was faster on top end with less traction problems.

    Besides being an older design, the big block Chevy Weiand intake runs like the runners are too large, even for a 454. The opposite seems true for the Ford 302 versions, where the Weiand tops other intakes and the Performer RPM seems too large for the 302.

  • @cuzz63

    I have always been told EFI doesnt work correct on dual plane intakes.

    • @XscoutsniperX
      @XscoutsniperX 2 года назад +1

      So if they don’t have the small cutdown on the divider like these intakes they can be harder to tune I’ve seen.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  2 года назад +3

      I've heard that as well, but mine has always ran decently. If you spend some time tuning out the small issues, it can run well. It doesn't mean all engines and all EFI's will work with a dual plane.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  2 года назад +3

      I ran my Fitech with stock Weiand which does not have a cut down divider and it ran good, I then cut it down and can't say I noticed any definitive difference. I would still recommend a divider that is cut down.

    • @r1learner178
      @r1learner178 Год назад

      @@SS454LS6 Well if you had that 1" open spacer on it at the time, cutting it down would do nothing. The open spacer is the same as cutting it down. If it was a spacer with 4 holes in it cutting the divider down would make a difference. I noticed a bit of water came out before the oil when you removed the sump plug.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Год назад +2

      @@r1learner178 You very likely could be right about the divider. A lot of intakes on the market have a small cut casted in, and still respond to a spacer, so it was worth trying. The water in the oil was from when I swapped the intake. I expected coolant/water to drain down from the valley. That's why I swapped the intakes before changing the oil.

      Nothing really. I bought the Air-gap for a future build, and since it isn't happening this year I figured I would put it on. Typically the Air-gap does outperform the Action Plus. We will see if it helps my engine.
