mendoza pressed all the right buttons last night. starting winker at dh, trusting in severino (even when i didn’t), and pinch hitting JD. You could argue that this game came down to the decisions of rookie managers, and Mendoza was perfect while Murphy took out Peralta and faced the consequences.
@@Am0ment0fBHe’s been making better contact recently. And I still think Pete might come around, because he’s been drawing more walks lately. That’s a good sign.
I can't lie. I was concerned after we went down 2-zip, but my attitude changed as soon as we came back and scored 3. I started feeling like the Mets are back to the team that answered back every time the other team scores, and boy did they ever. Feeling damn groovy after yesterday.
Sevy was great but this Mets offense man. Clicking on all cylinders right now. Everyones getting knocks. 8 runs on no homers! Everyone just keeps passing the baton. Love to see it.
Incredible start to the postseason. Big respect to Sevy for grinding out 6 and to Mendy for trusting him to do it. Also gotta love how they immediately responded on offense each time they fell behind. This team feels so damn special 🤞
Severino got BABIP’d a bunch, too. Lots of soft contact that fell in for hits, much like last week in Atlanta. Average exit velocity against him was something like 81.5mph, which is ridiculously low, and he only allowed three batted balls 95mph or greater. Soft contact is good, but I wish he could still miss bats reliably.
You guys need an intro graphic for the music so it's not just you guys looking around 😂 so happy for the metsies! I wasn't around in the 60s/70s/80s but I get the sense that this feeling of expecting we could win was what fans felt back then. I don't feel the dread impending doom around the corner this year, I feel optimistic. Its...nice lol
Thanks for the Rosh Hashana shoutout Jer, Shana Tova to you too! Wishing both of you and this team a sweet new year, let’s go out there and win some games! (preferably 12 more to be precise)
Hope Mets fans pack the stadium tonight! Got some family that live close by, and they got tickets yesterday for under $40 a piece. Hope our fan base takes advantage 💪🏻
Pat Murphy pulling Peralta was the difference in the game. It looked like it gave the Mets hitters so much confidence that the Brewers showed how scared they were about Peralta going for a 3rd turn in the order.
So, interesting thing for any pitching nerds. Mets’ pitchers are at or near the top of the league in lowest hard-hit percentage, definitely in the second half and I think for even longer than that. Why? It might be this: the Mets have a new pitching philosophy, which is to have multiple fastballs in your arsenal. I believe they have more pitchers who throw a four-seamer, sinker, and cutter than any other team in the league (or nearly every other team, at least).
That unearned run does make sense, although the error shouldn’t have been charged to Taylor, it should be on Iglesias or Lindor for not covering 2B. If Chourio doesn’t advance to second, the run doesn’t score because Contreras hit a grounder the next AB, if Chourio is on first that’s an inning ending double play.
@@IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar He did bobble the ball, but he still would’ve had time to throw Chourio out (and Chourio probably wouldn’t have tried it) if someone was covering 2B.
@@armadillolover99 Good point, that’s definitely true much of the time. Like, they’ll give an error to a guy on a really tough play, but a really obvious mental mistake is simply a fielder’s choice or whatever. That’s why I think errors are kind of a dumb stat, and related to that, the whole concept of earned and unearned runs needs to be rethought. It made sense back in the day when field conditions and defense in general were way worse, but now now. I’ve seen outings where a pitcher completely melts down after an error (often their own error), and allows a bunch of runs that end up being “unearned.” (Side note: I’d like to see a change to how we deal with inherited runners, as far as who gets charged with the runs. It should be fractional based on the base-out state. Runner on 3rd and nobody out? OK, that’s the fault of the guy who put the runner on. Runner on first with two out? That’s mostly on the reliever. ERAs are already fractional, why can’t a guy be charged with, say, 2.25 runs or whatever? End irrelevant rant 😆.)
@@armadillolover99 I don’t remember, but you might be right. I wasn’t saying Taylor necessarily deserved the error, just that if they were going to assign one, it had to be Taylor (even though it’s kind of dumb-maybe a half-error? Why can’t we do that?)
Three free passes to Pete last game is a great omen. i'd move him back to the top of the order (as high as third) as a reward. He's wearing them down and now it's time to make them thorw strikes. I'm calling a Pete Alonso homer tonight.
I’m a little worried about Manaea health-wise. In his last start, it looked like he was doing something with his shoulder, like maybe it was bothering him a little. His sinker lost some vertical movement, which he himself said. He also hasn’t gotten an extra day of rest in a while, he’s thrown a lot of innings, and I’m not 100% sure that changing your arm slot midseason is great for your arm. Usually you’d want to ramp up (progressively load) a change like that in the off-season. We shall see, I guess. 🤞
Shana tova, Jerry! You're a good guy. There are several Jewish players in the playoffs (includingnHarrison Bader), I'm wondering which ones if any will take Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur off like Sandy Koufax did.
So damn excited to watch more Mets baseball tonight this team is special no matter how this ride ends. Been loving all the coverage guys
