First time I played against emrakul in that standard the opponent attacked with my creatures and blocked with emrakul and tried to say trample damage went through even though I was attacking
@@ZackSavage Yeah it was basically combo winter 2.0 in standard but the cards were jokes everywhere else. I’ve never seen a set manage to both be fallen empires level of impact eternally and urza’s saga in standard.
Wishclaw talisman seems good with the potential troll, using emryakul's extra turn to pass the claw back to yourself. Also has the off chance of finding something to destroy OP with from their own deck.
I remember playing Reid Duke's Sultai Aetherworks deck at FNM. God, so much fun! Liliana, Noxious Gearhulk. Had a bit less of an all-in Marvel plan and had some midrange / reanimator backups. This was fun to see again!
Seth mentioned needing better shockland art. It really doesn't get much better than unfinity Also, consider running Valakut Awakening to alleviate bad topdecks
So I have a stupid question: Why has the price of cards at Cardkingdom spiked? Has the supply of cards at Cardkingdom dried up? Or are they just jacking up prices?
hahaha I've been grinding this deck through the explorer ladder since marvel came out with kaladesh remastered years ago. managed to hit mythic with it. crazy to see seth playing "against the odds" with a deck ive been practicing for so long. love the vid
Seth what made energy so good is that it could grind well. You don't have to always force mulls for the marvel. Virtuoso makes tokens for chumping and you have your removal, and life gain cards.
I wonder if this deck would profit from All Will Be One. It gives the energy cards a purpose later in the game. On the other hand it's just a 5 mana do-nothing by itself.
I wondered why this was popular in Explorer yesterday. I had one game where the guy got to cast 2 ulamogs and 2 emerkuls and still failed to actually do anything against my golos obliterator deck. Emerkul really lacks power unless you can blow out your opponent's setup before their next turn.
When you played the standard version ofbthis deck with Paradox Engine, ibremember also running some Whales and something else that made a bunch if energy on etb to get a reroll. Any thoughts on doing that here again?
I’ve bene wondering for some time if you would consider making a new semi-occasional series called Can we Pioneer (or Explorer) It? Simple idea for a series where you try playing rotated standard decks into Pioneer (or Explorer) and see how they feel.
7 mana triple blue is quite the ask, you might have a puzzle knot sometimes to improvise but it's still 6 mana at that point, if the scry puzzle knot was on arena it might be more worth considering
I've played so much of this deck I can't understand why puzzleknot us better than a longtusk cub I almost always have it make 4-6 energy faster and more mana efficient can someone explain the benefits of it over the cub or other actually good energy cards?
You want to be able to activate the Marvel as soon as you can play it. If Longtusk Cub gets blocked or killed before attacking it nets you 0 energy. The opponent will not interact with the Puzzleknot and it is a nice 6 energy on turn 4 by itself (turn 2 play it, turn 3 crack it). So any hand with Marvel +Puzzleknot and a couple of lands is live. Also if you fail to find a wincon Puzzleknot allows you to respin easily . There is also the tiny bonus of 1 extra delirium if the game goes longer.
Seth, I'll donate 20 bucks or more if you actually make a colossal dreadmaw deck lol I wasn't joking when I donated the five bucks, I actually play with that deck in explorer lol The rule I went with when I built the deck was dreadmaw was the only real creature in the deck (creatures that come in as copies like mirror hall were acceptable, even though they are pale imitations of the real thing). And everything else is based on ramping into/copying/finding dreadmaw. Don't let my memes be dreams! If I can beat radkos sacrifice and esper control with dreadmaw so can you!
@@FirstnameLastname-ju7em screw it, I'm throwing 20 in the pot also to make it happen. C'mon Seth-probably-better-known-as-saffron-olive make it happen.
Not sure why this is called Against the Odds when I've been getting bodied by this deck every day in Explorer since SOI Remastered released. Especially by the versions that can sometimes randomly hard cast Atraxa instead of spinning into it.
Still can't believe aetherworks marvel caught a ban in standard. It feels so quaint looking back. Same for most or those banned cards. Except for felidar guardian but that was just an embarrassing mistake not a Power level thing
the play vs draw needs to be reworked, going on the draw feels like an instant loss every time unless you have the perfect match up even then its hard.
Just a friendly reminder, this deck sucks so hard in the Arena because the shuffler will screw you most of the time. Prepare to experience multiple Emrakul/Ugin/Ulamog in the opening hand.🤣
This deck can and probably should have Jegantha in the SB because it helps you cast Emrakul in the mid-late game when you have 3-4 permanent types (land, instant, creature, artifact etc.) so she costs 9-10 which is just out of reach for Explorer lategame but not with a Jegantha.
@@Atmapalazzo Oh I thought Jegantha was "No multiple pips of the same color". My B. I wonder if there's other packets of synergy that can be added into a modern incarnation of this deck
@Firstname Lastname You're thinking of its companion requirement. The mana it adds can't pay for generic mana. Honestly, the deck should have a companion Jegantha since it meets the requirements.
Haven't you notice that when you're winning consistently, and arena's algorithm realized you are indeed winning consistently with a good deck, it punish you?? Giving all the good answers to your opponent and flooding you.
Sometimes I find the deck building a bit weird. Sure it's against the odds and all but if you have no plan for a random early 4/4, your deck building is bad. Assuming no one is going to do something until turn 5 or so is a bit too optimistic, even for this format.
This is basically the same deck people have been playing forever with Emrakul slotted in for Ulamog. This doesn’t seem like a good fit for the against the odds series.
First time I played against emrakul in that standard the opponent attacked with my creatures and blocked with emrakul and tried to say trample damage went through even though I was attacking
That weird time in history when every other card broke standard while did nothing in any other format.
fatal push was relevant, but that's it
@@ZackSavage Yeah it was basically combo winter 2.0 in standard but the cards were jokes everywhere else.

I laughed way too hard at this absolute fact. 😂
It's not surprising because energy wasn't given any other support so it's self contained until energy comes back in Modern Horizons 3 😂
@SmartAlec1 Eldraine Adventures deck was Uber broken in standard and hasn't manifested into any other format.
Wishclaw talisman seems good with the potential troll, using emryakul's extra turn to pass the claw back to yourself. Also has the off chance of finding something to destroy OP with from their own deck.
Good call, the deck seemed to struggle to find Marvel too, so a tutor would be nice.
I think this deck could be improved by playing fable of the mirror breaker.
If I see another deck with fable of the mirror breaker, that mirror won’t be the only thing breaking
Surely you mean Faaaaable of the Mirrah Breakah
The world Tree would be better than cataracks too I think
World tree would be good too
I'm going to save this comment to copy/paste later. Saves typing it out on every deck not playing Fable /s

Seeing this deck brings back so many memories.
Most of them traumatic, mind. But idk, there's something monstrously charming about Kaladesh standard
Missed opportunity to call this deck “The Marvelous Mrs Emrakul”
So I have a stupid question:
Why has the price of cards at Cardkingdom spiked? Has the supply of cards at Cardkingdom dried up? Or are they just jacking up prices?
Jegantha would have been a free companion I think and saved you from some damage just from a free 5/5
he had two brotherhoods end and Chandra sadly, Almost though. I thought similar for a bit
I really wish wizards would make an energy commander deck for the nostalgia. This was when I first started playing magic. Fun times!
I don't think they've ever gone back to energy token since kaladesh.
I think they're too gun shy about it.

Another great video brother Set. Too bad Emrashit is expensive and overpowered on paper.
That was fun to watch.
I'm very disappointed that the eldrazi titans lack animations.
Do new cards even have animations anymore?

4 Karn & 3 marvel instead of just 4 marvel maybe? I tried both in pioneer on mtgo a few months ago
3/2 2/3 kind of decks.
