"This Is A STORM In A Teacup!" | Keir Starmer Plans To Import Oil And Gas For Carbon Capture Sites

  • The Government has pledged nearly £22 billion funding to develop projects to capture and store carbon emissions from energy, industry and hydrogen production.
It is hoped the funding for two “carbon capture clusters” in Merseyside and Teesside, promised over the next 25 years, will create and support thousands of jobs, draw in private investment and help the UK meet climate goals.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer claimed the move was “reigniting our industrial heartlands by investing in the industry of the future”, as he made the announcement with Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Energy Secretary Ed Miliband.
UK Onshore Oil and Gas ex-director Charles McAllister criticises the Government for planning to import oil and gas to their carbon capture sites.
"It's a storm in a teacup... if the Government goes ahead with its current policy - there'll be 100,000 job losses by 2030!"

Believe it or not Scotland was one step ahead of us and are all but closing down Grangemouth. It must be one of the biggest money makers for the Scottish government. I actually sat in Hollywood and listened a debate on closing down fuel production a few months ago. It took all of 15 minutes to decide. I was shocked. If their income was based on industrial production profits, they would have been voting to expand it.

Oh yeah we blown that up.

If, for example, the intention is to keep CO2 in tanks, at some point the tanks will need replacing etc. There is also the safety factor, does anybody remember Bhopal where thousands of Indian workers and local people died after a toxic gas escape from a Union Carbide gas factory? What if there is an 'accident' and vast amounts of CO2 are reduced?

Carbon capture is like nuclear fusion it's 50 years in the future. It's never going to be practical or cost efficient. It requires a huge amount of energy to do the capturing and storing so will always add to the cost of electricity.
    Madness

The man is a barmpot. There are quite a lot of reserves in the North Sea and new reserves in the west of Shetland. If this net zero is sutch a positive way forward why import oil and gas from far a field using dirty fuel burning tankers.
The other big import is steel port talbot blast furnaces been shut down Redcar flattened will Scunthorpe be next.
It is all right to say we will build EAF,s but they won’t be on stream till latter part of this decade. Meanwhile the scrap that will feed the EAF’s will still be exported to the likes of India and China only to sell it back.
