Sir, your hands are mane of gold. Job well done. I let you fix my broken coils. :)
Great repair guide. Enjoyed watching!
There are important differences in glues that most people don't understand. Some glue "grabs" the material and holds it in place. What Keith is demonstrating here is the type of glue that welds pieces together. Metal Welding means you melt metal with a filler to literally make new metal in a joint. A good plastic glue does the same thing, plastic glue dissolves some of the material to join parts together and when the solvent evaporate, it leaves a very strong union. But not all plastics are the same; polystyrene, Butadiene Styrene and PVC are very different and require completely different solvents and glue! There are now dozens of hybrid plastics, some mixed with carbon fiber that are very different indeed. So you have to know what exactly you're working with before you choose a glue, other wise you wind up with the mess that Keith found. So no matter what your hobby; knowing your adhesives is very important.
Thanks for that, I couldn't have put it better myself }:-)))
@@keithappleton Keith, how did you _know_ that the coil housing was made from ABS?
I could listen to you tell me how things work forever. Never stop making videos sir.
Thank You {:-)))
Superb, really helpful as very informative, with the odd sprinkling of humour. Can i ask you, in regards to the Bison glue, which one did you use? I went on line and couldn't believe how may different ones were advertised? Very well done, your information was very helpful indeed.. Thank you..
I used the one designed for ABS Plastic.
Nice repair!
Nice Repair Job. The before picture of the coil looked like it had a burnt marshmallow on it.
You’re a wizard. Is there anything you can’t fix?
Only old Girlfriends and Wives }:-)))
Your fix is good but . A 3d printer . Can print new lugs .and base ... file flat . And epoxy on ... simple .
But ........... if you watch my videos you will see that Epoxy Resin type adhesive does not stick very well at all to the parent material which is ABS plastic, also I don't have a 3D printer . . . . . my way is quicker, simpler and it works. That is why I made the videos.
@@keithappleton i have designed a pefect fit for my 11inch coil with large flange flat .that sits on coil perfect used special two part glue .. now solid as .
Not sure what kind of "epoxy" that was but I've never seen epoxy, 5 min or otherwise, stay flexible like that after curing. I don't know what that stuff was.
probably not mixed properly or maybe incorrect balance in the quantity of the 2 parts . . . .
Nice. I hope nobody is reluctant to watch this because it's not steam engines. Some have an impedance to stepping outside their field.
Technically polyethylene is plastic.
Yes, but this stuff is ABS . . .
@@keithappleton I meant the comment you made about the bottle.
I see, yes you are correct, and the Acetone doesn't seem to dissolve Polyethylene.
