  • A controversial RCMP unit in B.C. acts as a de facto private security force for resource companies, and not for public safety, according to critics and many Indigenous communities. The Fifth Estate’s Steven D'Souza uncovers leaked documents that show how industry leaders influenced RCMP bosses who are part of the Community-Industry Response Group (C-IRG).

People's inherent value as sovereign human beings must be upheld over private monied interests of gov't, global elites & corporations.

Yeah the old defeatist attitude. You live in a democracy. Get out and vote for people who are going to do for you. Because back in the day when over 80% of Canadian showed up to vote. We had a government that worked for the people. But now and that we have a little bit around 50% showing up all the sudden it doesn't work for the people. Because you know who shows up in both rich people. You know who shows up and votes or people. You know who doesn't show up and vote poor people. In this country. It is very easy to vote. This is not like the states where it's hard to vote. Voting is made as easily as possible. You can vote for over a month before the election. You didn't just go to your elections office and cast a vote. Or you can wait for the 2 weeks before election day and go prevose. Or you can vote by mail. And if you need to register to be a voter, you can do so online. So there's no excuse. None zero nada to not get out and vote. Yet. 50% of Canadians failed to do so. And you when you go to the lower economics people that number can be as high as 80% in some places. So of course the government is only interested in working for the people who wrote. The old rich and white. So don't complain about the way democracy is being run when a little bit over 40% of people don't partake in voting.

I'm very glad to see this investigative piece. As someone who spent time at Fairy Creek, and witnessed the brutality of the CIRG units time and again, particularly toward Indigenous folks, it is honestly a relief to see it being covered on a national program. It is quite triggering to see some of the images again. Some of the most peaceful and respectful people were treated in such an off-handedly brutal way by the police. What is truly appalling is that, while it was shocking to me, for most of the Indigenous people involved in the movement, those kinds of violations from police are routine. The government of B.C. signed the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, yet this doc clearly shows how their rights are continually being disregarded and brutally violated, to protect the interests of big industry, profits, and the all-mighty dollar. Colonialism is alive and well in Canada.
