  • Debashis Basu explores the hopes pinned on India's future under Narendra Modi's leadership, aiming for a developed nation. He questions the effectiveness of traditional progress indicators, highlighting slow per capita income growth and ongoing rural challenges. Despite government spending, job growth remains insufficient and benefits aren't reaching the grassroots level. The video emphasises the need to address unemployment, income inequality and corruption to prevent social unrest. He concludes by questioning the feasibility of relying solely on trickle-down economics for India's development.

Sir. I am Pinak Adhya from West Bengal I know you very well. I have one request to you and mam to make a complete video on how the GDP growth and other basic data are manipulated in India, why the growth in Infrastructure can't sustain and give a long term benefit to our country etc etc. I have more points, if you request, I can share with you. Also please make it in simple words (possiblely in hindi) so that I can share it with general people because they don't understand English so well. I don't know if you have that much time or not but I request to do it for Indians. Thank you. Pranam 🙏🏻

Flattering numbers of GDP are based on our present distorted wealth and income distribution. My feeling is that we have failed our rural community so badly that a huge opportunity is available for anyone who wants to fix the system. Why have so many governments failed to take note and concentrate efforts to do a bottoms up development as a National priority? I wonder if we can expect the new Government to be bothered....

How to balance our income to expenses in this scenario? For me, a retired man, spend on essential like food and health, cut down on non essentials.

100 mio workers in real estate.. in five major cities. Apart from d absence of minimum wage and any medical insurance, raise many other issues.
There is no pf gratuity pension set working hours accidentvcoverage
    Where do they stay?
Do these cities are providing any infrastructure for them?
Where do d kids get schooling?
The unchecked growth of real estate is not in coordination with city's roads, water, sewage, transport, public amenities, even parking spaces! How such unchecked and unplanned maney making machines for a few can be called development?

This govt believes in giving dole in the form of free ration or free electricity but fail to put those limited resources in creating job creation. We then cannot expect anything other than unemployment.

Per capita can also go up if a few people income grows massively. You have to use Gini coefficient in addition to get a perspective.

Good intro to the rural distress
Sir, your mentioned the reason trickle down is not happening far or effective enough is because of corruption at the state govt levels and other inefficiency, would you care to elaborate in a follow up video with some details.. perhaps one or two state level studies etc…. Thanks in advance

Trickle down theory simply doesn't work. Like capitalism survives on government intervention when big banks and corporations collapse, similarly government intervention is must for some wealth redistribution to offset extreme inequality.

    Economic Empowerment of Poor.
    While trickle down theory; designed to let the fruits of growth trickle down slowly, painfully; has fulfilled its promise of not reaching the bottom;
Why have economist not thought of and designed a Root Irrigation to reach the Bottom of the Pyramid

Nobody talk of education and skilling, the problem is unemployability, the people who need jobs don’t see education a priority…or skillls….and those who are doing well should not be penalized, the urban middle class is also not getting any freebies, so much tax is paid directly and indirectly…even the well educated leave India because high skill jobs are also not available, even the top minds should be encouraged with incentives, there is no incentives for R&D whereas the west thrives on IP rights. Only talking about the bottom of the pyramid is not a solution….

Yes . BJP Govt. is working for the growth of people of Gujrat like Adani and Ambani Sahibs . Others , like 82 crore will continue to receive 5 kg. free rice up to 2034 . This ia the guarantee of Gujrati PM , Mr. Modi .

Congress/Nehru-Gandhi family is enemy of Indigenous Indians, especially Hindus. Unfortunately, BJP also totally failed us.
Last 10 years bank related RED tape increase so much that elderly, sick, NRI or any citizens cannot even withdraw their own hard earn money from bank. My parents bank accounts get freeze every 4-6 months just because they are not online users. KYC based bank freezing itself is unconstitutional as its treated citizens like criminals.
