I just can’t understand how he wasn’t awarded an Oscar for The Abyss. Just the resuscitation scene on its own is so insanely real that it’s impossible to not be moved by it. Sure he was directed by Jim Cameron, but Ed completely nailed that scene and the whole character!

Different strokes for different folks. I wasn't really a fan of Pollock and Ed Harris has done so many great movies. Would like to rewatch Pollock though when I get the chance.

@@thefirewall3308 i think he was great in that movie. Just seeing him in the first five minutes, seeing him at some art exhibition while suffering from a major depression is magnificent. I have not much with Jackson Pollock either. But Ed Harris did a great job.

Agree - Pollack was one of my favorite movies and Harris did a masterful job.
Really loved Harris’ performance as Gene Kranz in Apollo 13. Fascinating movie - seeing how Kranz as the flight director on the Apollo 13 mission had to lead the effort to rescue the astronauts after the explosion that crippled the spacecraft. It was an interesting look at how the astronauts and the mission control personnel made the series of decisions under enormous pressure (and with the whole world watching) to safety return them to earth.

@@thefirewall3308 That was a scary scene, but crucial to the movie imo. She was fine, and it explained how this technique would work with humans. (For this movie, anyway.) I loved the movie because it was so “new” with these strange ideas.

Yeh, I don't disagree, I remember enjoying a good portion of the film, but real animals being put in distressing situations for the sake of a movie negatively effects my feelings about a film. I feel like they could've found another way, especially master of CGI James Cameron.
