This is part of my solo backpacking trip around the world.
Part 1: • Backpacker visits Anta...
Part 2: • I didn't expect ANTARC...
Part 3: • HUMPBACK whale almost ...
Part 4: • Best experience of a 1...

But these items are listed in order of things I could not travel without.
The most important item I travel with is this WATER FILTER. Drink water from ANYWHERE, Pakistan tap water or mountain streams:

Compression packing cubes mean I can fit more in my backpack but take up less space:

This EYE MASK means I can sleep in 12 bed dorms and feel like it's a private room:

Simple but effective EAR PLUGs. In combination with the eye mask this means I feel like there's no one else in the room with me.

If you have any questions about the tour let me know ☺️
Price? Did they discuss antarctic treaty?
@@MyFriendlyPupI got a last minute deal for $3,500 I show more about the boat in the first video if you're curious 😊
And they did discuss the treaty, we had lots of really interesting lectures
how long was port to port across the drake passage?
were you scared?
I feel like he gets a bit distracted looking at his own face on camera.
Mirrors are my weakness 🙈😜
his hair mirrors the sea
Snow in Antarctica who would have thought.. Why so surprised?
Haha, what can I say, seeing snow on a boat made me happy. I bought the ticket last minute and had no idea what to expect ☺️
It’s wild that they didn’t stack up and secure furniture
Yeah... Aspects of this cruise were not well organized
I imagine what it would be like if the largest cruise ship in the world, Icon of The Seas, crossed the Drake Strait to go around the world.
I just decided to read about Antarctica! If I encounter snow in my reading, I'll just turn the page! 😂
The snow is crazy!! How fun!! so weird to see snow on a cruise ship! 😆🎉🎉🎉 I would definitely be out there playing in the snow. ⛄️ I would also be sitting at the window watching the waves like you! 😆 I live in tornado alley and I’m always at the window watching the clouds because I love extreme weather. 😆
Haha such a unique situation I was very happy 😊 it's a strange bit beautiful world 😍
I enjoyed the "Drake Lake" on my southbound journey; however we paid the price on the northbound return. 10-meter waves don't compare to what you were hit with. But, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
2:20 I seriously thought you were using some sort of filter on his face. Amazing expressions😂
Haha he's a funny bloke
You mad bloke, thank you for that. ❄
cleaning crew not only have same fear as rest of pessenger but on top of that , they have to clean the mess as well , ouch
And what's remarkable is the turn around time - it's only one day in port before the next cruise!
@@DanielVanDyck I would expect a little more time for repairs after that! Thanks again, what fun 😊
@@lashadi1445 it's a one day turn around it's insane. But we made friends on the ship crew, they said a few days later there were issues so they had to turn around 😅 the cruise after this featured Diplo and Flume so they had to be sure it was safe I guess 🤣
Good for you mate you had a lifetime experience ❤
Thanks, it was such a good trip 🙏
I'm suprised you didn't go out on the deck with snow during the passage.
I did haha what do you mean?
wonder why they use glassware on cruises to antarctica. wouldn't plastic or wheat plates be safer
Yeah... It's an interesting choice!
omg
haha, want to join the next cruise xD
They should have secured the furniture a little bit better I've been on a cruise ship and I have worked on a tanker Stoke Nelson and it does get lots of waves out there there's many oceans in the ocean is unpredictable
This was the third time this boat went to Antarctica, they're learning I think, painful lessons...
Awesome
Such an amazing trip
Wow! Such an awesome trip. Can’t wait to do this myself one day. Thanks for sharing your experience!
It was the best thing I've experienced in a year of travel, I hope you can do it one day 🙏
How many passengers washed over. No one to be seen after storm.
No injuries, everyone was safe. The crew seemed unperturbed by the conditions
Very amazing and adventrous video lots of love from India ♥♥
Aww thanks - I'll be in India in a few months hopefully 🙌🙌
How is this channel not more popular?
Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Why did i watch this vlog🙈😂
We've booked Antarctica Jan 2026. Now I'm worried😂
How did you not get sick?
Haha, because you're justifiably excited!
It was the best thing I've done in 18 months of travel 🙌 I'm excited for you.
I had one of those seasickness patches 😊 definitely recommend!
If you can, travel Argentina too - it's amazing
@@DanielVanDyck thanks, pray for us🙈🤣🤣
@@emmabourke6565 you want the bad weather! It was seriously amazing. I didn't show in the video that we kept falling out of bed haha. So we gave up on sleeping and ordered 4am room service, what a life.
@DanielVanDyck ok, I'll take your word on it. It'll be an adventure 😆
Thanks😊
Please let us know how it goes!! 😅
You can now fly go Antarctica and take the ship from there. This is no fun and costs a fortune.
@@semsemeini7905 eeek no not for me. Unless somehow I get rich one day 🤪
Just so you know the ocean is on your ship.
Free wave pool
Which ship?
Atlas World Voyager - the first video in the series shows the ship in more detail before the bad weather
I did a similar trip to Antarctica in 2014, but we were on an expedition ship. I think you shouldn’t be laughing … serously NOT funny
I mean, laugh or cry right? In stress might as well enjoy the ride
You’ll find most ppl who work at sea will be in the bridge laughing at the big waves.
Live and let live.
wow id be terrified. and id hate it as would not be able to go out on deck for a cigarette. i know most people would say big deal to that, but it would def put a real damper on our cruise, even though id totally understand why i wouldnt be allowed on deck.
Haha I don't smoke but if I did I'd be stress smoking for sure
Just take a vaper with you and vape in your room.
Why these people were outside without jackets is ridiculous.
Truly ridiculous
It's weird this ship tries to cross the Drake Passage unprepared
So, so strange....
Definitely doing this next year 😂
Best trip of my life
When ships are designed by those that have not been to sea
Yeah... Honestly shocking to see that nothing was tied down in the world's most dangerous crossing
Dude: Making the best out of a bad situation is one thing…But seriously taking a stroll on the slippery deck whilst the boat is rocking & rolling, in a short sleeve shirt…in the snow…is just reckless and foolhardy.
But fun tho 😉
I think you neeed a bigger ship
Eeeeeeeyyyyyy *finger guns*
Love your lively language
There's no one stopping me so I'll just be an idiot
🙌
If the ship was slightly bigger , it would have been fine
It was definitely a small ship, only 200 of us
What cruise ship was this and when?
Atlas World Voyager early December 😊
And you actually PAID for this?
It won’t be long until one of these monster ships founders and it will be an unprecedented disaster.
It was the most amazing trip, Antarctica is beautiful 😍
feel the titanic once more
Don't they know that my heart will go on?
So very funny.
Well that's just swell
🤣🤣🤣
Snow and cold weather in Antarctica is "surprising"? On what planet?
I was expecting to fall off the edge of the flat earth honestly 😉
Where is rhe entire crew in emergency clean up mode.
There were lots of crew there, and it wasn't an emergency, just a bit of water
So you expect the cruise line to control Mother Nature??
That's Madam nature to you
Loco
Es muy loco pero tambien Creo que fue super divertido
If I'm not wrong you are currently in India
Yeah, I'm in Ladakh ☺️
@@DanielVanDyck have you visited Goa, you should try it....... and How long will you stay in India?
Last time I went to Rajastha, Varanasi and Dharamshala, this trip is Ladakh, Kashmir then in Punjab to go to Pakistan. So hot down south 🥹@@prajjwalshivhare4106
@@DanielVanDyck how do you travel so much ?? I also love traveling I wanna travel like this... Can you share travel hacks 😊 plzz
And
sorry i disturbed you.... I have asked so many questions from you hahaha😅
@@prajjwalshivhare4106 haha you're okay. No travel hacks, honestly I'm just grateful I'm from Australia and had a good job. I made some money from investments.
However now the focus is to travel longer term and the keys to that are:
Destination - certain places are simply cheaper, India, Iran, Phillipines, Indonesia, most of South East Asian honestly. Less cheap but not that expensive is eastern Europe, Bolivia, Paraguay. Otherwise I strongly recommend Couchsurfing for accomodation, hitchhiking and volunteering whilst travelling. I just spent 10 days at a monastery in Ladakh volunteering
What a jerk
Haha why?
you are so handsome
Thanks, you're so kind!
20m waves vs the Atlas World Voyage ship that is on the smaller size of the explorer cruises at 129m long at 10,000 gross tons would be scary ride, next time consider the SB Pursuit ship at 169m long at 23,6150 gross tons, would handle that 20m wave.
Definitely scary...
I’m guessing your Aussie by the way you pronounce the word “home”.
Haha bingo 🤣 Aussie through and through mate
What do you expect? It’s the bottom of the world. Duh!
Well I was wondering if we'd hit the ice wall 😜 noooope
Note to self: don’t take a cruise to Antarctica
Haha it was the best experience I've had ever, a bit scary but a bit fun too 😁
What a waste of time and money.
