Great video. Love the format. Would absolutely love to see a 2023 update to this to see how the trees have come along as well as any changes made to the selections. Thxs again!
CAC is really good. Valencia Pride was my first planted mango as well. Love the citrusy ones as well. Awesome that all of this is thriving all the way up in Sarasota. Met you guys at Matt’s tasting last year. Keep up the good work!
I'm in Lakeland when it Frost's I layer up and hose everything down before sun hits them never had damage it hit 29 with no frost panical damage on mangos leaf damage on figs and atamoyas jac looks great dream( I got from you) looks great (cheramoya) you took frost damage
I planted me a mango tree but I forgot to cover it up and it Die on me so now I'll going to plant another one in the pot but I want forget to cover it next time. I should have Read up on have to care for it.But now I know.
I live in OC California. many years ago I participated in "test" where I grew three varieties from Florida to see how they will do in my area. One of the trees survived and I have recorded its name ' Princes Pride" but I can not find any record of this verity. Do you have any knowledge what it may be ? The tree is small about 6Ft tall and maybe 4-5 Ft wide. Branches are very brittle. There are very few mangoes that actually mature to be eaten. The fruit has a very distinct "elephant trunk" structure on its surface. and it is a large fruit . Also do you sell grafted plants to California ?
zvi peshkess I’ve never heard of it. You can email us a picture of the fruit, post pictures on tropicalfruitforum.com or maybe check with Alex at Tropical Acres Farm - he’s great at mango ID.
Hi Craig, I am growing a mango I have a question about, I brought a mango fruit from the store & planted the seed in summer 2017, now it's spring here & has started flowering for the first time, I looked at all the google images & diagrams of a mango flower/ovary & noticed all had a single ovary/to-be-fruit in the flower, I wanted to know if it's common for a mango flower to have 2 ovaries in the 1 flower like my seedling grown mango does?
We just lost a big live oak in our gardening lot. We have decided that a mango tree would go nicely in that area later this year. Your video was extremely helpful. Do you sell?
meethu101 Our mango trees are on slow drippers and then we water with a hose when flowering/setting fruit. We flame and hand pull weeds and mulch heavy. For bad weed patches, I have a piece of greenhouse plastic I smother them with for a month and then move to another area.
My coconut cream mango tree is still in its container. It is about 5 ft tall, not including the container. Do you recommend putting it in the ground in zone 9b? Right now it is one straight tree with no side branches.
Pete It has flowered but hasn’t set fruit yet. I haven’t tried the fruit. We grow it because the trees sell well and it’s nice to have a source of budwood.
Thanks! Pete - It has flowered but hasn’t set fruit yet. I haven’t tried the fruit. We grow it because the trees sell well and it’s nice to have a source of budwood.
@@SulcataGrove Yes I read the fruit is excellent. Recently got one for myself but can't find anyone firsthand to confirm how the fruit tastes, tree height and disease resistance. They say she's the Queen of Mangos. Look forward to your review 😉 Take care.
Geoff Argue We filmed a whole yard tour that we need to edit and post. Hopefully this week. We may do just mangos a bit later when they are more ripe 😊
So, imaginary scenario, you live in South Georgia and you want to try to grow Mangoes in your microclimate. You have a Julie in the greenhouse that is a monster but you believe the humidity in the greenhouse causes the fruit and blooms to drop, so you decide that growing Mangoes outdoors in the microclimate of your South West Facing concrete wall, lined with giant Loquat and Jelly Palm trees, is the thing to do. What Mangoes would you choose ? On the edge of zone 8b/9a but has frost protection.
The Domestead Julie is supposed to need great airflow from what I have heard. Pickering doesn’t seem to have disease issues for us, and being a smaller tree, you could possibly build a cold protection frame for it or put it in the greenhouse.
Overall top 5 - Coconut Cream, Sugarloaf, Lemon Meringue, Glenn, and maybe CeciLove or Orange Sherbet. Valencia Pride and Pickering are good with zero disease issues for us.
I really want plant a mango tree in Arizona, but not sure can withstand over 30 days of 110 degrees temperature in the summer . is there any heat resistant variety ??? please advise.
Tipson Ts when our mangos are little, I use an organic fertilizer with npk and minors. Years 2 on, I use 0-0-50, calcium (dolamite), and a little boron and epsom salt.
Great video! Out of the 7 mangoes I have in the backyard, my wife’s favorite is the Mahachanok. It’s a beautiful mango, but it tastes ok to me, and has a really strong aroma that she says she can’t smell. My favorite is the Carrie. Lemon Zest is finally fruiting for me, so hopefully I’ll taste it before the raccoons and opossums. My pineapple Pleasure finally fruited a lot this year, but unfortunately every single fruit got some black fungus and are shriveling up. :( I might top work it next year. Will you be doing any banana grove videos? :)
William Ramos-Munoz That’s tough. Up there would be Coconut Cream, Lemon Meringue, Orange Sherbet, M4, and then maybe Glenn, Pickering, or Valencia Pride just for production and nice flavor.
@@SulcataGrove hopefully i can see it next year, i been wanting to get one but cant find much information on it, growth habit productivity etc. Wanted to see if you had one in the ground
Am in chicago and all we get are low quality commerical mexican mangos. I am sure there are many good mango types in mexico but the ones we get are not best at all..honey something and cant remember the other one both tastless with no smell. Any clue where i can order decent mangos from in the US?
The best mangos don’t ship well, and aren’t available commercially. Tropical Acres Farm ships good Mangos in the US along with Mango Men of Homestead. It’s a great way to try some of these newer Florida mangos. We haven’t mastered the art of picking at the right time to ship them safely. We pick all of ours ripe, so I think they would be too ripe if we shipped them.
Greetings! I thoroughly enjoyed your videos, especially on mangos. I have a small yard in Los Angeles area, and only have room for a semi-dwarf or dwarf mango tree. I am looking for a sweet mango variety that is fiberless, has good flavor, disease resistance, and smaller footprint. If it has a nice mango aroma, that would be a bonus! Originally I am thinking of getting a Nam Doc Mai #4 grafted (semi-dwarf), but a friend suggests either a Pina Colada, CAC or Coconut Cream. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!
Pickering would be a nice choice (if they do well in CA). Cac and Coconut cream aren’t dwarf/semi dwarf. Glenn may be a good option as well if you are willing to prune it each year.
Great video. Curious -- unless I missed you stating this as one of your varieties -- have you planted a variety called "Kent"? I get these at the stores up here in the midwest in July and they taste incredible -- I prefer them to Tommy. The fruit is usually quite large in size. I'll eventually be moving down to the Sarasota area and plan to plant a couple mango trees.

Hello just looking at your videos I love the mango trees ,Do you give them t people of the grocery store or friends .
We sell extra fruit at our farm during the summer and also ship a limited number of medium flat rate boxes within most of the continental US.

My pickering mango tree is about 20-25 feet tall and it is about 7yrs old.
Dion Bush Never heard of that with a grafted Pickering. Most I’ve seen that are even 10 years old grow wide, but not a lot of vertical growth.
😳😳😳😳😳😳😳what
My Pickering is about 7 years old and stays quite small. Mine tends to grow wide but not up
😱😱
Maybe it was mislabeled?
Why you don’t have any Alphonso mango tree? I understand that is a very good one even though decease issues.
Paul Parecadan Because of the disease and poor production in our area.

PacoQuerak the mallkia didn’t do well for us. We know two other growers near us who also removed theirs due to fruit being subpar.

No Alphonso?
No, I’ve heard they don’t do well here.

Why don't you have a carrie tree?
Clayton Jo It goes over ripe pretty quick and we heard it has some disease issues. We get plenty of Carrie mangos each year we visit Homestead.
Do you have irrigation on your mango trees?
Kara Thornton They all have a slow drip, but we didn’t hand water enough and have had a lot of fruit drop. 😢
Hi ! Is there any temperature minimum during mango flowering session ?
Ehsan Zaby I’m not sure. We don’t normally get freezing temperatures where we grow. I don’t think we have ever lost flowers due to cold temps
