Kasparov is a BEAST with his bishops

  • Featured is the game between Leonid Yudasin and Garry Kasparov from the 1981 USSR Championship. After Yudasin’s f4 in a Sicilian Najdorf, Kasparov secures e5 while also welcoming multiple imbalances. By move 9, Kasparov has a compromised kingside structure but is in possession of the bishop pair. A time sensitive position ensues where initiative would be king. Observe how Garry Kasparov, the Beast from Baku, makes excellent use of his bishops through key pawn play in this instructive 24-move encounter.

    I’ve watched so many of the games you have covered, but for some reason, even though nobody sacked a queen or gave a smothered mate, I think this might be my favorite. I love what you pointed out about Kasparov not playing Kh8. Very instructive

    Using a pinned bishop to attack and threaten with discoveries is an unbelievably resilient tactic. Here white is thinking he's got the black king jammed up, then somehow a bishop pair from Hell emerges from the position and the game is completely lost.

      Regular and popular openings are just not really worth diving into. There are literally countless videos out there analyzing each of these specific popular openings, even from Jerry himself I believe. It's just a waste of time and would tire out the regular viewers by repeating the same things over and over again.

    • @ArcaneTricksterRS
      @ArcaneTricksterRS 11 месяцев назад

      I was about to make the same comment. After looking at the position, I think the only reply is Nf5 in which case you can achieve doubled f pawns for white, but I do not see immediate advantage afterwards for black. If anything, the black kingside becomes a little cloggy, which means that if black doesn't produce enough counterattack on the queenside, white will slowly bring pieces and kill the black king.
      Just a very brief and short understanding of the position, I didn't spend more than 2 minutes on it, so I could be totally wrong.

    • @parlabaneisback
      @parlabaneisback 11 месяцев назад

      15...e5 16.Nf5 Bxf5 17.ef doesn't do Black's dark square bishop any favours. It is still winning for Black, it's just that 15...f5 is stronger.
      I guess the difference is that ...f5 liberates the g7 bishop, while ...e5 shuts it down.
