      A 55mph will certainly move a truck around, however unless the road was wet or icy not nearly that much, the bikes seem stable as well as the 4 wheelers. I’ve driven this road many times in a big truck, motorcycle or auto and yes the road can be tricky with sudden crosswinds & wind shift and so if he got in the beginning of a rollover, maybe. I’m sure the tire tracks will show much…

  • @SteinerFab1357
    @SteinerFab1357 19 дней назад +5

    I am a CDL driver that TOWS trucks for a living and I have 2 motorcycles. This doesn't fly in my eyes. 55 mile mph gust WON'T PUSH A TRUCK OVER that far and he had time in distance to get back over if it had shifted him a 1/2 lane over. Also it would have affected the bikes MORE than the truck and the bikes were traveling fine. Wind is a great EXCUSE because you can't see it to prove it either way. If he couldn't speak English at all, how'd he pass a cdl test to read English for signage on our roads ?

    • @RealPolitik-dy4it
      @RealPolitik-dy4it 4 дня назад

      Exactly. I hold both a CDL and motorcycle endorsement. If the winds were really bad enough to push a truck across 3 lanes, the people on the bikes would have pulled over. Even on heavy cruisers like that.

Could try and get it back but I know my brain could malfunction at any time and just not worth the risk .

    I have owned trucks 60 years. I learned English in the first grade. When I speak English, very few people realize that English was not my first language. Back in the 1970's I hired some drivers that spoke broken English, but they spoke my first language so I could instruct them. But they could speak enough English to communicate. In fact they learned to drive a truck as American Soldiers in WWII. The past 35 years I would not consider hiring someone someone who required a translator. I am based in Texas and I have hired drivers whose Spanish was a lot better than their English, but in Texas Spanish is very common. About 10 years ago one of my Spanish speaking drivers was involved in a fatality. My insurance company used a bilingual lawyer and a fatality triggers a DOT audit. A bilingual examiner did the audit to make sure there were no misunderstandings. It was determined my guy was totally not at fault. Having lived in Texas for 80 years I have learned a lot of Spanish. And I have vacationed in Spain quite often and had no problems communicating in a basic conversation. As for the wind, my first truck that I bought used in 1964 had loose steering, no power steering, bias tires and no aerodynamics. I ran the Texas High Plains regularly where 60+ mph winds were common. Occasionally a. strong puff of wind blew me across the center strip for just an instant. But I got her back on my side of the road in a hurry. And these were very narrow roads. We have all seen videos of trucks going over in the wind, but there is no evidence from the dashcam that his rig was being laid over. I think the driver just drifted over on the wrong side of the road and apparently made no attempt to get back on his side of the road. The carrier's insurance is going to have a difficult time defending this one. The fact that he didn't speak English was not the primary cause, but it will make the defense more more difficult. Lack of experience was probably a big factor. And his prescription drugs may have been a factor. It is going to be a case where the carrier is going to be totally at the mercy of the trial lawyers. I don't see how the guy got a CDL and I certainly don't see that a carrier even considered hiring the guy.

    I've been driving for 24 years and I have driven in all types of weather including high winds. I've never not been able to control my rig. It was very difficult at times but nothing like we see in this video. If the wind was that strong why was he in the left lane when he claimed the wind was blowing from the right? He was distracted, simple as that.

    I’m in Wyoming I80 right now and yes the wind can in fact blow you over to the next lane depending on weight however why was he not in the far right lane. 2 if the wind gusts are to strong he should have stop earlier and he should have slowed down as soon as he felt wind gust and track back to his lane immediately! How long has he possessed his CDL? Maybe should have had more training as well. Either way he killed 3 people and has to face those consequences

      You have ZERO BUSINESS driving whatsoever!! Keep it in your own lanes at all cost !! I have driven in 70+ mph before empty. Never have I crossed a lane with people in it !! I would flipped it first ! You new drivers are full of narcissistic crap !! Get off the road and let someone more responsible earn the living!! You have no business pushing a broom whatsoever kid !

    Something is definitely WRONG here! If there WAS 55mph winds, those motorcyclists would've been blown off the road to start.
    Point #2 if it was that windy, ( I've traveled that section of road ) there WOULD be " HIGH WINDS ADVISORY " and high profile vehicles would be unable to travel. With this being stated, this driver is TOTALLY in the wrong and should be charged with vehicular Manslaughter.
    Point #3 .. It even states in the Green D.O.T book, one MUST speak, READ, and understand ALL communication in ENGLISH.
    Point #4 if the driver is using medication for seizures, why is he allowed behind the wheel of a 80,000lb truck? My personal opinion is this, if you suffer from epilepsy and have to take medication, you SHOULDN'T be able to drive OTR, maybe intrastate or local but definitely NOT OTR!
    This outfit out of Michigan appears to only care about profits and doesn't care about safety.

    I've been in wind that lifted my trailer tires off the road in Iowa.
    Made me slow down and look for a pull off. Never moved me out of my lane.
    Bogus, IMO.

    Yes it can when having your feet up on dash holding phone in one hand watching phone other arm off your knee finger on steering wheel another words head up butt then high gust of wind hits and takes him time to get ahold of steering wheel

    There's no excuse for being on the wrong side of the road for 15 to 30 seconds all he had to do was take his foot off the fuel paddle and go back to his lane.

    Yes a gust of 55 mph can easily push a truck! But.....WTF was he doing cruising in the left lane? After the first gust he should have slowed his roll and stayed to the right. He deserves every bit of the sentence in jail. IMHO

    Yes the wind can absolutely blow you out of your lane but a clear minded driver would immediately slow down if not come to a complete stop. Especially if it was that bad. No way would a good driver fight against wind that literally KEEPS you in the other lane… that’d be like trying to drive through a fucking tornado.

    Simply put and this goes for any truck driver, regardless of the wind why are you in the LEFT LANE with NO TRAFFIC? THIS WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED IN THE RIGHT LANE LEFT LANE WARRIOR!

    The height of the trailer ,high profile vehicles catch the wind and you get pushed. The alerts ⚠️ tell high trucks your in danger in the wind. Especially in the mountains in the West.

      Yep, but if you can't speak/read/understand English, all the warnings in the world won't help. All non-English fluent drivers must go. Commercial pilots must be fluent in English, why not enforce the dang CDL law.

    Just drove through Wyoming 70 mph gust signs stated High blow over rate and needed 50,000 GVW to proceed. I was 56k a lil light with sleat on the road and still remained in my lanes on straightaways and on curves. And Parallel to trucks that weren’t governed to 65mph. I call BS and that’s just his legal argument which doesn’t mean it’s the truth.

    I used to get heavy loads and drove in 50+mph winds. I now do LTL so I'm parked when winds hit 40 unless I happen to get 30k+ pound load. Strongest wind i ever dealt with caused plenty of tree damage and flipped an RV. I drove slow and utilized the first exit I saw.
