I am 64, I have been drag racing since age 17, when I put a 283 in my dad's six cylinder 1963 Nova SS. It did have black wheels to begin with, factory steelies. 14" in the rear and 13" in the front. Not counting that one, I have had 7 race cars, 5 of those were street legal. ALL of them were carbureted. I built every single one of them. That's half the fun. My current, and likely last one is a 1982 Chevy S-10 2 door short bed with a 383/Powerglide. It runs in the low twelves. There is very little left of the original truck but the body. I built almost everything but the transmission and rear axle. I have zero respect for someone who shows up at the track with some fancy new computer on huge black wheels and no tires. It is fun to watch them blow up though, and I've seen that happen quite a few times. That guy wearing a helmet in the silver BMW convertible looked ridiculous. I expected it to at least be in the fifteens, it was in the mid sixteens. He really needed a helmet for that. Oh, and battery powered DEFINITELY doesn't count. I watch a lot of videos from Southeast Gassers Association. I always wanted to build a gasser, but never did.
I was wondering where is the dodge demon. But then i remembered that it was banned from drag racing bc it has no rolecage ...damm such a powerful car man....
Gotta love some good races. Btw, the song playing in the second race is Green Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf. If you listen very closely or just have good headphones/speakers: you can hear the distinct bass line.
Regardless of how fast bought is *ALWAYS* better than built because you are purchasing a machine that had a big, billion dollar company that invested significant funds in tech, reasearch and development. Modified cars will be more work, function less reliably under a smaller set of circumstances, break more often and last far less long requiring far more time/money along the way to keep running. They are usually the domain of people with a lot of resources they don't know how else to dispose of.

The "built" cars are made by hundreds of experts too. It's not like these people are forging their own engine parts from slabs of metal. They're assembling store-bought parts together.
Holy smokes that cab over is a beast
Holy SMOKES is right XD
You see, the difference is that bought usually compromise on the power over a little bit (or a lot) of comfort.
Built on the other hand would rather strap an aerodyne rocket engine to the back than add interior lining. :)
As a proud Shelby GT500 owner I was really impressed with how the new Shelby GT500 ran in this race. Great video!

Tbh u ain’t gon be pullin no bitches in a lil tow truck, but u gon be getting all of em in a hellcat like that.
A 4 link with the anti-squat adjusted properly does wonders for traction. Weight is no much a problem no a days with the right suspension mods. He had that truck dialed in and shot out of the hole like a rocket.

Old school Muscle!! Heads turn more for a mint 65 mustang, or 68 Camaro, or 69 Chevelle, or a Cuda. In my opinion
Is "turning heads" more important than winning then ?
Classic muscle cars are always a treat to see. Yeah yeah yeah I get it you're rich and cool with your McClaren, Lambo or Ferrari but I really enjoy seeing the classics roll by more

Built and bought are great, I kinda prefer bought because of warranty😁
@Oldskol Acura well it's under warranty and if it blows because of it being a pos they have to fix it or just talk to my lawyer. As long as I haven't touched the engine in any kind of way
@Oldskol Acura most warranty’s are complete bumper to bumper & some, like Ford & Dodge, sell warranty compatible performance parts. They don’t usually perform as well, and can cost more, but you still retain your warranty. I’d rather build a car, but he’s got a point. The luxury of getting new engines & transmissions whenever you need them does sound nice.
However the mods void the warranty and built doesn’t have a car payment.
@@ZENIGMATV yeah I would rather do bought till warranty runs out or extend the warranty if need be. Built is cool but then there's always the what ifs a simple tune could be wrong and mess the whole car up
I've built my 78 Pontiac Phoenix, and currently building a 76 vw bug, turbo stroker efi, it wasn't over night took years and thousands of dollars, I can tell you it's cheaper to finance, not everyone has thousands in savings for parts..that said 10 plus years ago I financed my srt6 crossfire for 320 a month and my wife's mustang gt for 310 a month..projects are fun and I love working on my own cars just hate the wait time, saving $ for parts I need..

They are racing in high altitude it's 1 sec less then sea level so he's prob running low 12s which isn't bad if you never raced before
Or buy a bike & run 8s .
Built or bought. Many of those who build put the performance in what they build. Can't underestimate one's determination to get the best out of what they put their effort into.

As someone who's growing increasingly annoyed by the "Mopar status" in his area, it was so satisfying seeing that old school Chevy pickup straight up dust that Hellcat.
Yes it was nice to watch and I knew the Chevy was going to win. Old school cars still have the respect they deserve!

That Nova was impressive, I just love those things.
I think I rather have a 1970 Chevelle SS454 in black and red.
Always on the side of BUILT!
Something amazing about old classic metal being modified to do something high performance.
If I was super rich I'd have bought, and built stuff.
Tesla is simply awesome, yet so clinical it borders on too sensible. Not as much soul. Would still like one, just it doesn't have that lumpy cam V8 excitement.
Good on that FWD doing so great.
Lovely video..Cheers from England 👍🍺🇬🇧
I dont have a side here, I just appreciate the effort these drivers put in to the sport. From building to the finish line
My conclusion is it seems most owners of the Hellcats/Demons just do not have the necessary skills.
@Jose Alberto Rosa-Suliveres I'm guessing you are being sarcastic. Not sure those little cars are pushing out that amount, but even if they are the driver sure did his job. They also don't have line lock, launch control and drag mode to help them along.
@Jose Alberto Rosa-Suliveres i think they would need a larger engine bay and if they had the money for the motor and parts to put out that amount of horsepower they wouldn’t be using a civic
dodge cars are mostly for people who just want to make noise lolol

What's the black car called in the second drag race??? looks really cool and pretty fast!
That Old Chevy Truck Rod made that Mopar look STUPID SLOW 👍
I love it, the only problem with the built is you cant drive it every day vs the bought you can have fun when ever you want
Kinda depends on how ya build it.
I agree... But daily driver is fun. I had the blessings of running the jeep srt and ohhh boy we weren't always the fastest but I won some money

The definition of a true car guy is someone that knows the ins and outs of their car, took something from nothing and built it to his image and is going to continue to do the same thing with any car he comes across.
