For those of you who want to know about the REAL Mary Lou Retton. This is a first-hand account of who she really is. I can say this with full confidence, as I am a former friend.
She is nothing like the smiley-faced, sweet persona she tries to portray. She is a lying, deceitful, self-centered individual with no care of compassion for others. She is the true definition of a user. This is nothing about Mary Lou’s personality that is genuine. I am sure there is not a single fan out there who loves Mary Lou, more than Mary Lou loves herself.
She is more than happy to continuously talk about her accomplishments, and remind you who she is and what she’s done.
In all my conversations with her, I can’t remember her ever asking, “How are you”? It all about Mary Lou.
If you believe she had “Pneumonia”, I have a bridge I would like to sell you. She is an Anti-Vaxxer who refuses to admit the real reason behind her illness.
For someone who preaches the word of God so much, she would walk the walk instead of lying to everyone she comes in contact with.

Chemicals in nail salons.... wonder if that could be a factor. My mom's brother-in-law was a hairdresser, and died of brain cancer. There are toxins in all personal care products unless specified as organic, or non-toxic. Good to see she's doing better.

I wonder if she inhaled something in that nail salon that caused a bad reaction that elevated into pneumonia. It's how you can't walk outside now without mysterious viruses, bacteria, COVID invading our bodies. I'm glad she is doing better and pray she continues to heal and recover.

I so enjoyed her energy and presence at The Olympics with her megawatt smile. I'm a critical care doc and her circumstances are an everyday thing for me. It is really wonderful to see her off oxygen and starting to get her smile and swagger back.

I get the "mom guilt" thing. When my dad died very suddenly, I was the first one to be able to get to the hospital. I knew it was bad, but I wasn't ready to see him unconscious and on life support and it hit me hard. To this day, the 1st image in my mind when I think of him is that and I hate it. So when my mom died years later, it was hard to go in the room, because I did not want that to happen with her memory.

It's been 40 years and she's only 56?! She was just a child when she did her perfect 10 routine. Wow. This has to be a post-covid issue. The pandemic is nowhere close to being over, and it kills and disables more people all over the world every single day. I wonder what type of pneumonia she had. I know a few people who developed pulmonary fibrosis, like Mary Lou has, after a covid infection. 500 Americans are dying per week, and it's probably a lot more than that. Because hospitals no longer have to report covid data to the CDC.

Mary Lou harmed many modern female gymnasts by taking the side of organizations, coaches, and doctors who abused them. Is she a legend? Yes. Have I lost respect for the way she ignored, deterred, and didn't stand up for those athletes who followed her when she was in leadership with USA Gymnastics and had power to help them? Absolutely.

i was like 6 years old when Mary Lou won the gold. At least it looked back then authentic that she earned it but all kinds of weird things happen at that level in sports but im just about iffy about the entire health issues she is having. it seems like she has been going wildly crazy with money grabs for the past few years starting with her divorce and then her alledged faulty hip replacement surgery law suits and how wacky wild she was in various of interviews looking like she was high on scheduled pain meds with cotton mouth typical symptoms of being high from those and everyone wondering where all the half a million dollar donated money went and why was it so needed when she had won a 2million dollar divorce law suit and had sold two houses prior to that.then her entire life being a celeb and paid for tons of advertizement industries and paid to be interviewed as a guest on shows ... all that money where did it go? i just do not buy into her story. sounds a bit extreme exaggerated something seems really off.

Because she was self employed, she lost her insurance. As a result the bills started piling up both medical AND day to day. So, give ME a break! Reread my comment. I didn't say anything criticizing the $500 OR the destitute comment that she has said herself. She ALSO said that the picture in front of the salon was taken the day before and she was fine, which I was trying to point out in her defense. Personally, and it's just my opinion, which I'm sure you'll try to twist, It sounds to me like she was exposed to and had a severe reaction or poisoning to a chemical or combination of chemicals in that salon that attacked her lungs.

Yet she kept the money! Why didn’t her daughters help her with health insurance. Y’all have seen her home, imagine the taxes she pays. Priorities in life.
