My heart goes out to you and Sophie. I have a Shih Tsu boy who is 13 years old. He is my heart dog. He, too, is starting to fail a bit; arthritis, deafness, and lately his eyesight is failing. But I love him desperately and, like you am doing everything possible to ease his problems. It's the tragedy of loving a dog that they will someday die. It's the way of life. But, like you, I'm dreading it. Thank you for sharing that you are, too.💙
It's so tough - i wish our fur babies lived long, long lives. My Shih Tzu girl turned 8 in January & is still bouncing, so I'm treasuring every day we have.
I got a male Shih Tzu puppy a couple of months ago after having to put my 13 year old teacup Yorkie to sleep in February. I swore I'd never get another dog because of how painful it was, but yet here I am. It's hard to live without the pure love of a dog. 🐕

I relate so much because of the sudden demise
Of my French miniature Bulldog
At age 9 yrs he went into decline ,
He had taken to going under my dinning table
And it occurred to me he was frightened to be
Stepped on , due to loss of sight
my kind brother took my Tanki
To the Vet , sadly he brought his remains to me
In a box , my brother owns land with a riverbank
And a small forest of Sumac Tree’s
So that was my chosen spot to have my sweet furbaby
Laid to rest. brother got an old house slate tile
And drilled[ Tanki , ] 😢his name
which was placed as a marker
For his resting place.
My brother’s home is in Ontario
Whereby I live I. Vancouver BC
Is my joy when on visits to family
To go up the steep hill to the Forest of the
Sumac tree’s and visit my little soul companion
Now resting in Peace.

Nicholas, it was so touching to hear you talk about Sophie and her personality. My mom turned 100 in December and she passed away today but you could’ve been describing her. Thanks for giving me that little bit of comfort.

I lost my dog a couple years ago and I still think I hear his collar jingling around the house. It won’t be easy when you lose Sophie but it’s that circle of life that we all belong to. I’m glad you’re doing painting again because staying busy does help alot with the worries in life. Of course you don’t have to try Nicolas because you don’t stop with the hundred things you juggle daily, but something like your painting fills those quiet moments in a very healthy and relaxing way. ❤️❤️

It’s wise to find a trusted person to sit with any dog, especially an older one (if possible), when we are away. Being in their own home is calming for animals, even if we aren’t there. Dogs learn that you go, and you always come back. Not everyone can get a trusted dog sitter, but it’s great if you can.

Nicolas, I also have a senior dog I rescued when he was one year old!! He is a small one like Sophie. His name is Cody. Glad to hear that she is doing better. They are sent from God to give us unconditional love, and so much joy to be with. Did you know that Dog spelled backwards is God!! No offense if you are not a Christian. The dining room turned out so beautiful!! Yes the shade of green looks so much better than white. Do you decorate your home for Autumn? You are loved just as much as Sophie Nicolas!! Take care.

Oh little angel Sofi will be just fine and she is not old at all. She’s a little puppy. She is adorable. She is the same little puppy that you got actually that God brought to you and just believe that she is as tiny and as lovable and cuddly as she was on her first day, and we love her and think about her and pray for her and may she forever be by your side
Finally, brought back your gold frogs with green glass. They have been your staple identity. Designing and change is always stimulating.

Oh, darling Sophie is lucky to have you to love her! How we treat elderly pets is a good measure of the kind of people we are. You are a fine man to be there for Sophie, in both good and bad times.

Please consider the following a friendly suggestion. If you have yet to upgrade her food to a mix of fresh meat & vegetables please consider it. We also added Brewers Yeast to our senior dog's food. Thank you Nicolas! The dining room is charming.I particularly like the wall color. I'm glad Sophie is feeling much better. My cat is 20 years old this year and on the arthritis injections. What a difference. She is jumping all over the place and much more active not to mention talking all the time. if anyone is hesitating about the injections please don't. I know my cat feels much better. However they are expensive so be prepared for that. She s also on a special diet so she has become quite the diva!

Hello Nicolas from Queensland!! - it lifts my soul to hear how you take Sophie to the Vet & are concerned for her health - this is a reflection of the kind of person you are - when the time comes for Sophie to walk over the rainbow bridge - do not be heartbroken - she will be waiting on the other side for you - life can be hard at times - your home looks impeccable - restful - easy on the eye - very comfortable & you Nicolas are a comfort to all of us - you have many followers from all over the world!! - the weather here in Brisbane is quite the opposite of Edinburgh - we have days already 30 degrees & we are only just into Spring - am looking forward to your trips to the Chateau de Curzay - take care - much love.

I’ve only had one dog - a peekapoo - who was diagnosed at 4 years with Addison’s Disease. He needed an expensive shot every month plus other meds. He was with us for 14.4 years - a real joy -
and it’s been an exceedingly
difficult 5 months but also the vet
told us that dogs with Addison’s usually don’t make it to 14 years.
We found his issues compounded near the end and he (usually loved life) just didn’t seem so happy anymore. Enjoy every minute with your sweetheart.
We made a photo collage commemorating his life and while I’m still tender about losing him, I’m very happy I have the remembrances. You will have that too! Here’s hoping for more years with your baby

Nicolas, I have a Shih-Tzu, 12 years old, and his hearing has diminished. I also dread the day when our sweet Oscar crosses the rainbow bridge. His sister, Chrissie, passed this past January at age 15. She had developed a hack as well and it turned out she had a collapsed trachea. We let it go for about a month then it got progressively worse so we had a vet come to the house to put her down. It was difficult to make that decision but it was for the best. Plus having a vet come to the house made this sad occasion all the more bearable. Enjoy every day with Sophie! PS: your dining room is beautiful! Mandy from Arizona.

You did a magnificent job in making slow pans so we don’t get dizzy. Also, you don’t have to always pan the camera, it’s okay to hold the camera still, at times, so we can take in the details. Your videos are improving, cheers to you!
The dinning room looks very elegant. Thanks for holding the camera more slowly it didn't bother me at all this time. I cant wait to see the portrait of you and Sophie, and I hope she stays well for many more years. They are like our children and its so hard to lose them when they get old.
I like the dining room much more than I thought. Poor little Sophie😢. Our Sugar started the same way, but she had Congestive Heart Failure. She was almost 15 when she passed, and we were devastated, although she had a puppy spirit until the end. It was our honor and privilege to have had her in our lives for so long and we enjoyed caring for her as you do Sophie. Sending Sophie special prayers for rejuvenation and happiness…long live all the special beings that we love. Surely they are angels in disguise ❤
Give yourself time to get back into your painting. Nothing wrong with using a reference photo. If it makes you happy it’s worth the effort. Prayers for Sophie. 💕 My old dog had heart issues and was on several medications in her last days. It’s never easy to lose them, but Sophie is living her best life with you. 🥰

Sending healing energy and prayers for Sophie. 🐾🙏. My sister’s dog had some coughing episodes and it turned out to be his heart. He’s an older rescue but doing fine with medication. Every so often the coughing returns and the Vet adjusts the meds for her dog. The coughing may very well be related to her heart function. It’s worth a “look and see”. It’s good to hear she is doing better. The dining room looks wonderful. Looking forward to your Chateau project updates as well. 🤩
I love the dining room color. I agree that the crown molding, we call it that in the US. The color of the shades on the dining room ceiling lamp. Your home looks so comfortable and welcoming. Sophie is so sweet looking laying looking out the door.
Your dining room color is fabulous. As I get older, I am finding I like the more quiet colors, they are more relaxing to look at. I hope Sophie continues to improve. My husband and I just had to say goodbye to our 14 year old rescued dog, and now getting a puppy soon. All pets are special and give us so much joy in our lives. Sophie is very lucky to have you as a "pet parent".

Hmmm! A full length portrait! How royal. That dining room bouquet is so ethereal and pretty. Painting or any hobby is always a challenge to return to after an absence. I always remind myself that nature isn't perfect and sometimes the imperfect becomes our most cherished. Kiss Sophie for me. She knows she is cared for.

I always enjoy watching your videos. Now also with the renovation of your dining room. I worked as a store manager at Flamant, a large Belgian decoration company. I would like to give you some advice regarding the chandelier. It hangs too high. A chandelier is a lighting element and also a decorative piece for the spaciousness of the room. Another tip is to cover the chain with a beautiful fabric. This piece of fabric should be made as a narrow tube and gathered over the chain. The length of the fabric tube should be 4x the length of the chain. You will see that this is very elegant and classy. I admire what you do and always look forward to the next one. Good luck!

Oh Nicolas my dog is 14 and a half yrs old and he’s my first dog too so your concerns resonate with me. His back legs are going so he walks very slowly but he really enjoys his food that I cook for him. We’ve had a few worrying episodes with him which really churns me up inside but we got through them.
I love your kind, sensitive words about Sophie and the way you feel honoured to help her in her old age. So lovely!

I have a 15 year dog that has that same type of cough you describe Sophie having. My girl does really good on her meds and acts like a puppy most of the time. Your dining room looks beautiful!
And do you know the cause of the cough? My doggie is 14 , she has some problems of mobility, she gets an 💉 every month but for the rest she still looks happy 😊
Sweet Sophie❤I have an old girl, too. She’s a miniature schnauzer, 15-16+ years old. We adopted her and her brother three years ago. Her brother died a year ago as his diabetes became unmanageable. Patty still eats well, but she’s terribly frail. It never gets easier, no matter how many dogs you have. Gentle hugs to Sophie. ❤

Hoping the best for Sophie! If she got Librela injection, please do your research. We lost a dog to it. It helped with the pain, but for some reason it was hard on him . Not sure if he had another pre-existing condition . Not trying to scare. I just after the loss I hate to see it happen again. Maybe ask the vet for an echo to check her heart.

We have a sweet old boy… a little Bichon. He is 16 years old now and has had a recent need for diapies. I love him so much and, like you, am very thankful that he has been in my life for all these years and that I can continue to look after him in his old age. 🥹 Everything looks beautiful at home and abroad, Nicolas, and I continue to look forward to your new adventures.
