This is what I have been looking for! Real time embroidery... everything that comes up is beginner stuff but I want more than flowers and leaves for inspiration! Thank you so much! 😃
Sarah, I really enjoyed watching you stitch. And seeing how you brought her face to life. You really are a excellent teacher and stitcher. I always look forward to watching your videos. I never knew how much effort and time went into your videos until you shared what efforts you and your husband put into it. Even though you execute your videos so we’ll, it’s your teaching skills is what make them so good. Thank you for all of your efforts to share with everyone so we can increase our love of embroidery and our skill of the art.
It is amazing. Not only that motifs are stunning but can you tell us are there special techniques charateristic for this extraordinary period that I personnaly like very much.
It is thrilling to watch a professionally trained embroider at work. Thank you. Working split stitch from the bottom is difficult for me. Can one work splitting from the top down with the same effect?
Thank you for the time and effort you and your video expert have put in for making these videos. My needlework has much improved thanks to you for sharing your education and talent. Also could you please tell me who the composer is and what piece you used in the background for this video. I haven't played piano for a while, but it is so beautifully peaceful and calming; and just slow enough I could give it a go.
When working the split stitches in silk do the following rows of stitches have to go in the same direction or at the end of the line do I go the opposite direction? Say for instance I start at the top stitching downward, I come to the end of the stitch line-do I then start stitching from the bottom up to the top of the design. Thank you.
Hi mysticstar78, thank you for your comment. I briefly show starting and finishing threads in this video ruclips.net/video/K22r8_ds8jM/видео.html but I will soon make a new video showing it better. Keep checking back! Thanks again.
hello Sarah , You're such a great teacher ! I love watching your videos, I always learn some tips ! I have a question about this embroidery opus anglicanum, what king of thread are you stiching with ? cotton, silk, wool ? thanks for your answer;
There is a difference Jade yes; it's easier to see what you are doing if you split it from the top but you are effectively doing a backstitch so you will use up more thread and it will be slightly bulkier on the back because of this. I suggest practicing from the top then when you are in the flow try it from the back!
I am from Chile. I think, Sara is one of the most amazing embroidery's teacher... Howevecer, the posibility of understand their informaron about embroidery would be wonderful... But, I speak a little and I don't understand a lot... An on-screen parallel translator from English to Spanish it would be very useful for Spanish speaking people....
Do you mean which direction you go Nancy or whether you go from the underneath of the fabric/on top of the fabric? You choose your direction, whichever way seems to work for the piece. If you can't see to split the stitches from underneath you can do it from the top instead.
You could certainly do underside couching on it becuase you can use the holes to take your thread to the back, and probably a version of split stitch shading; it won't look like it does on ordinary fabric but have a play with it and see what you get!
@@SarahHomfrayEmbroidery Thank goodness you have a tutorial on the "underside couching" technique, because going at it alone Sugar, I was a bit nervous like a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Thank you Sarah.-Pat
There is no way I could do such a beautiful job. Way too advanced for me. I love it though and would like to try it. May I ask where I can get this? Thank you!

For the face and hair I'm using silk Francoise

I’m curious about the split stitch ... whether to do it from the bottom or the top, is one better or is it just personal preference ?
Do you mean which direction you go Nancy or whether you go from the underneath of the fabric/on top of the fabric? You choose your direction, whichever way seems to work for the piece. If you can't see to split the stitches from underneath you can do it from the top instead.
Sarah Homfray Embroidery , yes I was talking about going from top or underneath. I really appreciate you answering my question, thank you !
Where can I find designs like this please? All the ones I've found are ready worked and I'm not able to pick out an outline. Loving your videos!
I drew them myself Deena from sketches I made at the exhibition and the catalogue images afterwards

thanks 💟💟💟
You are most welcome!
What did you do with the knotted end?
The knotted end is a waste knot so it can be cut off once a few stitches have been completed
Hi, what type of thread do you use for this embroidery technique?
A fine one Gabriele! Use a stranded cotton/floss or a fine twisted silk thread...
There is no way I could do such a beautiful job. Way too advanced for me. I love it though and would like to try it. May I ask where I can get this? Thank you!
Where does one procure gold thread? I know how to make it, but I want to save a step
