This is a song you can play all day long first recorded back in 1969 .that's 55 years and it's still as popular now as it was then .

Seriously, how can you not dig this one...smokin' vocals, timeless sentiment, drivin', dancey, groove and them horns👍
♡ And to top it all off, there's the fancy footwork of the bassist

"I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" was the band's biggest hit in 1969. A lot of other artists have covered this song. Spiral Staircase recorded a few other songs "Baby What I Mean", "She's Ready", "No One for Me To Turn To". This band was known for using horns in their music.

Some music was to white for the black stations, and to black for the white stations
That's horrible,, but that's how it was
I'm so glad times like that have changed for the better
I know there's still hatred, but it's not as bad as it used to be imo

A tidbit of background.... This was the first song the singer, Pat Upton, ever wrote. He's from tiny Geraldine, AL (the band Brother Cain also from there). He later did guitar/backup vocals touring with Ricky Nelson. Mr Upton's bar in Guntersville was the site of his pal Ricky's final 2 shows before his tragic plane crash. Such an uplifting tune

I used to listen to this song on the radio when it first came out . Loved when they played it regularly on the air. Used to mark the times when certain songs were played per programming at the station and for weeks, knew when many songs would be played, peak times they cranked out the hits, like when people were going to work or heading home. I was at home listening

Hearing this song on the radio back when -- an AM radio -- it was easy to mistake this tune for one from The Foundations, Classic IV, The Grass Roots, maybe even Blood, Sweat & Tears or The Four Tops. The drum and bass work really stand out much better on the straight studio recording of this tune. They provide a master class in keeping the rhythm in the pocket. Simple, but very effective.

I believe this song came out in 1967, but it wasn't until the summer of 1972 when I had a crush on an older girl. I was 12 and she was 15 when I sat next to her and heard the DJ on the radio say: "This next song goes out to Dave and Lois..." That's when I Love You More Today Than Yesterday came on the radio.

  • @CuzKatieSaysSo

I was only 12 when this came out, so the lack of romantic knowledge goes without saying, but that being said, it's still one of my favorite songs of all time because it was easy to learn the lyrics and sing along even at 12 listening on my 9V transistor radio, and the melody is just so happy and upbeat. But it took until 1982 for me to understand and live those lyrics. He died suddenly in 2005 at 48, but at least I have my memories that I did indeed love him more than the day before. But then tomorrow never came.
    Great great song, wonderful reaction.

For as much as the whole family was labeled the nerd goody two shoes , they really do have a lot of talent and played some really good music . It's worth the time to give this song a shot.

In the 1960's there were alot of amazing Groups who were One Hit Wonders. Check out The Foundations (Build Me Up Buttercup), Archie Bell & The Drells (Tighten Up), and I'm A Girl Watcher (The O'Kaysons). Also if you can check out Can't Speak French by Girls Aloud The UK Girlband. Sadly they lost a Group Member Sarah Harding to Cancer in November 2021. The Melody sounds the same.
