A lot of people out there think just because they have a hourglass shape that they are some type of Romantic or TR, not the case at all! A lot of women have small waists in comparison to their hips and shoulders/bust.
I'm an hourglass, but I'm a soft dramatic. Sd is perfect for me. I look ridiculous in full-on romantic fashions. Classic is better on me than romantic.
Yes! The info from some kibbie sources majorly confused me by linking a “waspish waist” to romantic and TR so forcefully. I became convinced I was TR because of my waist to hip/bust ratio, then that I was SD because I’m on the taller side while busty and thin. I flipped between those very different types over and over only to realize I am a soft natural with an hourglass, which is why I could pull off outfits from either type (SD or TR) without looking completely out of place. Once I learned more about soft naturals, everything fell into place. “Ah, that’s why some of my features are sharp and long, and other features of mine are soft and wide...”
@@madisonaubrey6076 I'm a soft natural too (at least I'm like 89% sure) with a soft hourglass. Sometimes I'm confused because SNs are recommended to wear normal rise or low rise jeans and the waist should only be softly defined. However I realised I look wider and heavier when I do that. I look better with a defined waist and high waist pants.
Yeah, same here. I was always confused, that my measurments tell that I am an hourglass, but my shoulders still look dominant. Merriam Style, thanks for uncovering this mystery I've been trying to figure out for years! :D
I have learnt that an hourglass can't wear high necklines because most hourglass shapes have larger breasts than other shapes and a high neckline makes the breasts look as though they are sitting lower on the body so it's unflattering
I have a small head. My boobs overwhelm it so showing boobs or wearing modern bra I end up being lost and just end up as boobs with legs. Makes this introvert miserable.
As a TR (small-ish bust though) high necklines often look unflattering on me, it's true. But I find that a sweater with a mock neckline can be a flattering choice for me. As long as the rest of the sweater suits a TR too haha
Oh my gosh... as a dramatic classic I am triggered by "oooh, you dressed up today!" any time I wear anything that isn't minimal. Don't get me wrong, I adore my classic style, but whenever I wear anything that adds volume or ornateness I will get comments.
Me, too. I'm a soft dramatic and I get the same thing, but I think it's because I live in a small town in the Midwest. If you wear anything but jeans and a flannel shirt, you're considered dressed up!
I'm a dramatic classic and I find if I wear clothing too flouncy or frilly I look embarrassingly like a dowdy clown. The contrast between ultra girly and the "drama" in me makes me feel like I'm not a woman in women's clothes. I look better with cuts and contrast and loose waves. It's kind of stuffy (and I think it makes my personality seem bland!) not being able to be too loud or feminine. I feel confident with some sexy edge in otherwise basic outfits.
I absolutely get this! SN myself but feel like I get a lot of comments about dressing up if i wear too fancy stuff... A more casual look is so much easier to pull off for my style. I often ended up getting dressed real nice and then dressing down because it just doesn't work for me!
I have an idea, dont know if anyone else would want to see the body types as caricatures, like for example I think Izma is a caricature for sharpend, and too is Cruella, maybe is a more easy way of seen the lines (I think I see them but is not so clear for me yet)

I was hoping you would describe the outfits you created and explain why they are more harmonious. I felt like you were just on the verge of that a few times and then switched gears. I think, and I could be wrong, that the rounded had a soft, thin cardigan and skinny jeans; the sharpened type had a crisp, open neck blouse with a thick belt and high-waisted bootcut trousers; the mixed type has a Peter Pan collared blouse with a thin belt and mid/high-waisted A-line trousers.

I’ve been researching body types, color analysis, you name it for days and this was THE BEST video I came across! I want to find my look and start a new wardrobe but after every video I felt like I learned everything but what to buy and this was so helpful. Thank you!!
I have spent the last 3-4 days watching several of your videos and you are a genius! You see things many of us don’t and are able to articulate the concept/idea & break them down like a true guru. Many women can instinctively dress well but to know and understand why, is both a science and an art, a gift that very few possess. Bravo! You are a gem and great things await you.
This was very interesting, I am a sharpened type and often struggle because when I dress "for my curves"(in rounded shapes) I come out looking like my clothes are too small for me, even though they are the right size. I do love skirts and very feminine clothes, but for the look to be armonious I have also come to find that the clothes need to replicate some of my own lines, or else I tend to look like an adult in children's clothing 😂 Also, love birch trees as well!!
There is a tree called Jacaranda, they are like cherry trees, but purple. I love them. Also, I'd like to know what would happen if a round type wears sharpen lines. Thanks for the video.
I’m a rounded type with a little bit of sharpness. When I dress in sharpened lines I look like I’m drowning. Straight lines and heavy fabrics look stiff, huge and weird even if they’re the right size. Same tends to happen in bevelled lines. They overpower me completely and come off as tent like. If they’ve got bits and pieces that are right for my type, such as a short blazer with a cinched waist and shorter sleeves, I’ll look a bit as if I’m playing dress up. It’ll look slightly off and unflattering, although not terrible.

Hello Merriam! You look extra radiant in this video. I got “hourglass” in my measurement test so curious to hear about your new method. Never heard of this.
You really have developed the best frameworks for explaining concepts of colour and style... this is brill! my fave trees are alder and ash because they look so spectacular in autumn!
I don’t get this..! I am an rounded hourglass and round/soft clothes look horrible on me. Like I feel unfit, weak and chubby. I have very sloped shoulders, (no bag will ever stay) short limbs and round fleshy arms and thighs. I feel so good when I wear long lines, severe tailoring, rigid fabrics and larger shoes. Biker jackets and boots are my best friend. Counteracting the softness is so much more flattering I find, or am I just totally off trend? What am I doing wrong..?
I agree! I'm a rounded hourglass, not a sharp angle on me, and overly rounded clothes make me look frumpy and overweight. Sharp tailoring and structured clothing, as long as I strictly follow the waist emphasis rule, look much better and actually emphasize my curves in a more balanced way. Also, I'm convinced that a biker jacket and boots look good on literally everyone 😊
I'm not even an hourglass figure but I can say the same for myself. I have rounded features, both in my body and face, so I need slimmer, structured clothes to make me feel put together. Otherwise loose, baggy clothes make me look chubby.
While Merriam seems very sincere and obviously educated on the topic, I am more confused than before I watched this. Round bones? Square bones? Kibbe style videos helped me much more because of the specific details on the various bones of the body and face.
I find this difficult as a soft dramatic, because there is nothing at all 'sharp' about me imo (apart from being tall, but that is not actually 'sharp', its just), but in this system I'm sharp. I was confused until the end when I saw the sharp outfit and realised that was kind of soft dramatic (and the other 2 would look terrible on me).
There is not much to say. Everybody has hip dips, just like we all have 2 arms and a nose. Just try not to be to influenced by social media and show off your hip dips
this was very informative!! thank you!! i love your videos cause you're so clever and well spoken, i really admire you how you're able to come up with all of this and analyze it!! and i also love your voice, sometimes i watch your videos just because your voice is so calming. much love!!
I’m mixed and while I’m pretty sure I’m a Romantic (not just hourglass shape, but short, small hands, feet, limbs, soft) I was convinced I could be a Soft Classic, just a fuller, wider one, because their clothing looks so much better on me than more Romantic styles, overly feminine styles. As always, very useful info to scaffold upon the kibbe system. So many beautiful trees but my favourite trees may just be Jacaranda trees with their delightful lavender hues.
Within Without yes! I am very much in the rounded category but soft classic lines look so much better on me. True classic lines however look bad and I know I’m not primarily a classic/blended type.
Random Stuff With Vicky Yes, same! Only the soft classic lines work for me, anything straight classic is too stiff/rigid. I could even just be rounded, I’ve tried taking the body geometry test and I seem to fall between the mixed and rounded. But rounded lines and styles do look a bit separate on me, where those mixed lines that I associate with the soft classic kibbe type have me feeling my best.
Wow! The difference was so dramatic when you showed the “afters”! Thanks for your always-helpful and interesting videos! Can’t choose just one ‘favorite’ tree 🙃, but one of my favorites are ginkgoes; I love how the leaves resemble butterflies, including when they fall from the tree. Fun question!
Makes sense that whenever I wear clean-cut straight line clothes, it always looks big on me even when the sleeves, waist, etc fit well. I'm also wondering, are there items that are no-no for certain body types? For example, leather jackets always have a straight line because of the material. Can any leather jacket fit a rounded-bone person?
You described me perfectly as the mixed hourglass oh my god I've never felt more seen, you answered questions I had only in my mind, I thought something was off in my look and now I know why
I like maples! I think they grow to look so stately and their branches/leaves create a pleasing, overall rounded shape. Also, maple syrup and the beautiful colours in the fall. (Can you tell I'm Canadian LOL)
Now I understand why I look good on blazers and in general more "masculine" forms than in very rounded feminine ones. Very rounded forms always look weird on me and I feel stupid so I have always avoided them.
Thank you for your explanation on why the changes were made and how they benefitted the particular body shape. I still want to see more ideas as I think I will require more than this example. Will look out for more of your videos. I love your work.
My favorite tree is the pink mimosa tree. I have loved them ever since I can remember noticing trees. It is a strange 4-phase flowering tree native to Asia. 2 out of the four phases make me feel like I took a trip to Asia everytime I see them in clusters with or without its flowers. I am not really of fan of the third beanpod phase, which lasts through winter when it sheds its leaves, but it still has that unique beauty during that time. Anyway, not only is the mimosa tree pleasing to look at, but also pleasing to interact with due to the leaves closing when you touch it. I wish I could plant them all over my yard, but they are an invasive species that produce a ton of seeds and grow at the speed of light. They also are prone to disease. So I just look and admire as I see them out and about.
Love you Merriam! You have such a wonderful way of explaining this system. I always learn something new in every video! Edit: p.s. my fave tree is anything that FLOWERS. If I ever get to plant trees qt my home I will definitely plant some cherry blossoms or something similar
@Hanna Figiel Dear Hanna, i am from Russia, we are poor. You know even having higher education and extra education i have less than 400$ income, and that's actually a lot for my city.
Weeping Willows are beautiful, I enjoy the way they bring an aura of mysterious sadness and nostalgia for me. Great video, the drawings helped me see this more clearly.
For a mixed type would you say it makes more aesthetic sense to wear the small geometric shapes on the part of the body that is angular?. For example if the shoulders are angular in the mixed type and the bottom is rounded, should the person wear the geometric shape on the top or bottom?
Slightly off-topic but would you consider making a video about Kibbe types for sporty women? Building muscle may reduce the appearance of body flesh or change some shapes (for example, strong abs can make the waist appear straighter or big glutes can alter the hip measurement, if not visual hip width) and muscle may camouflage some of the bone structure in the body (shoulders for instance). It would be helpful to have you point out where the bone structure is still visible and it would be amazing to have some example images. I really appreciate the work you'r putting into this channel!
Omg I know this is an old comment but that would be amazing!!! I think it makes a really big difference. I used to be very athletic, in a lean way as much as I would’ve loved to actually look buff. But my strength always took people by surprise. Like I had a 6 pack at one point and no one would’ve guessed 😂 I always assumed it was my boobs and hourglass figure that looked less stereotypically athletic but bone structure could‘ve contributed too! I always wished I could look intimidating and you’d think being strong would help, but I’ve never succeeded without being extremely angry. Then I scare people. But I want to be intimidating so that people don’t test me in the first place!
My favorite tree is the Sugar Maple tree (though a few other varieties like the Japanese and silver maple are cute too). But I love the fall colors it’s leaves produce and maple syrup it produces.
Hey Merriam, My favorite tree is a Banyan. It's native to The Indian subcontinent. Question - Could you do a video for desi clothes i.e indian/pakistani clothes?

Hello I was wondering if you could suggest some colours to wear for different undertones. Also if its possible to make a different shade of a colour to work on a certain undertone in which its usually not suitable. Eg: if any shade of blue is suitable for warm undertone or which shade of yellow is best for cool undertone if a necessity to wear the colours arise.
I wonder if the styles are variable enough? my first suggestion is to focus on color and make sure it looks lovely against the skin since it's probably difficult to go with a lot of make up during long shifts, so the color can carry the glowiness of the skin.
Hourglass here! If it's not fitted (just right) I look bigger than I really am and frumpy. It's hard to find clothes like this that aren't too sexy. And I feel like I'm the second one maybe... Also you look beautiful, Mariam!
Great video, Merriam!!! I have always wondered how useful the fruit system was in helping women dress for their bodies! Thanks for making us understand it really is all about your bone structure!
Thank you... you are the best. I watch all your videos till the end and every second and every word is suuuper helpful... and my favorite tree is birch too ;)
I found this video extremely helpful. I am struggling to dress my hourglass shape. I have a shorter narrow torso, larger chest with long thin arms and carry much of my weight in my bum and hips.
This makes a lot of sense. Thank you! I see from the examples that I am def closer to a sharp type, even though my physique is very soft. When I wear skinny /cropped pants with a short shirt it *does* look too small, like a child that grew a little bit and needs to size up, but if I do it looks baggy and wrong. This was a good explanation of the different bone structures.
😁😁😁😆😆😆🤪🤪🤪!!! Can you tell I’m so excited?! Merriam!! This is so brilliantly perfect! It illustrates (no pun intended) so we’ll the differences within one “shape”, in this, the hourglass. Could you please, please, pretty please do this with naturals, and well, everything? The possibilities are frickin endless 🤩
I love your illustrations! I like these type of video: you take one feature or dress style that is found across all body types and demonstrate how each type can dress with it in mind, while still honoring their lines. Birch trees are beautiful! My favorite trees are Maples due to their spectacular leaf colors and their yummy syrup!

There is not much to say. Everybody has hip dips, just like we all have 2 arms and a nose.
Just try not to be to influenced by social media and show off your hip dips
@@dp2404 Not everyone has them!
I'm in love with all three of the "after" sketches. So chic!
Thanks for the video! You made me realize why high collars look PERFECT and low neck lines look BLAH on me!
Omg, hi Raylin! Funny seeing you here, Chase's channel is probably my most watched RUclips channel! 👋🏼😂
please make longer videos! they are very interesting to watch
Incredibly helpful. Made perfect sense!
this was very informative!! thank you!! i love your videos cause you're so clever and well spoken, i really admire you how you're able to come up with all of this and analyze it!! and i also love your voice, sometimes i watch your videos just because your voice is so calming. much love!!
aw thank you!
Oh...now this is an explanation that has opened my eyes. A much deeper and technical explanation than the usual. Thank you.
Wow finally I found examples that look like my body. I have very sharp shoulders but round hips. Thank you for this!
I missed having new videos in this channel for soooooo long! Love love love your channel!
aw thank you!
You described me perfectly as the mixed hourglass oh my god I've never felt more seen, you answered questions I had only in my mind, I thought something was off in my look and now I know why
omg that's lovely. :')
I like maples! I think they grow to look so stately and their branches/leaves create a pleasing, overall rounded shape. Also, maple syrup and the beautiful colours in the fall. (Can you tell I'm Canadian LOL)
I grew up in northeastern USA so I am right there with you on the maples. My all-time favorite tree!
Now I understand why I look good on blazers and in general more "masculine" forms than in very rounded feminine ones. Very rounded forms always look weird on me and I feel stupid so I have always avoided them.
This video is literally a life saver, thanks Merriam.
Mimosa or Baugainvillea are my favourites! Theyre just so pretty
I really like your drawing, make it very easy for me to see that I am mixed!
Thank you for your explanation on why the changes were made and how they benefitted the particular body shape. I still want to see more ideas as I think I will require more than this example. Will look out for more of your videos. I love your work.
hello, you look great today, merriam!
So I just look and admire as I see them out and about.
aw that's so cute that they close their leaves.
We have Minmosa trees all over Florida.
I'm so happy that I found your channel. Your explanations make so much sense. Thank you.
Awesome video!!! Great way to show the body types! Hope to see some ways on styling bodies with hip dips!
Loved the video! A weeping beech is my favorite.
Love you Merriam! You have such a wonderful way of explaining this system. I always learn something new in every video!
Edit: p.s. my fave tree is anything that FLOWERS. If I ever get to plant trees qt my home I will definitely plant some cherry blossoms or something similar
oh my gosh I love cherry blossoms and lilac trees too.
Great video. I'd be interested in that 4th type to see how well it correlates with the Dressing Your Truth system (4 types).
Sharpened look so elegant
In my case, I can not buy anything long as I am 181, everything looks even shorter with China cloths sizes
some scandinavian brands have clothes for taller ladies, you can check Samsoe&Samsoe :)
I get you sister, I'm 186cm and finding pants is HELL
I am also really tall, I love long tall sally. I just get angry if I try to shop somewhere normal. Also, sewing helps a lot
@Hanna Figiel Dear Hanna, i am from Russia, we are poor. You know even having higher education and extra education i have less than 400$ income, and that's actually a lot for my city.
It always makes so much sense, when you explain it 😄
Weeping Willows are beautiful, I enjoy the way they bring an aura of mysterious sadness and nostalgia for me.
Hi, Merriam you looks great here!
Birch is versatile, love it, but I also like the poplar, siuch an understated perennial presence!
Your videos are genuinely unintentional ASMR to me. So relaxing. Love it.
Great new lighting and setup! : )
I would like to have seen you address the blunted type with hourglass. I fall in there with my shoulder/waist/hip measurements.
I love the Willow Tree and Cherry Blossom Tree. Thank you for your content!
My favorite tree is the Sugar Maple tree (though a few other varieties like the Japanese and silver maple are cute too). But I love the fall colors it’s leaves produce and maple syrup it produces.
my favorite tree is an eucalyptus tree the bark is so colorful and pretty. Would you ever consider styling for hipdips?
Hey Merriam, My favorite tree is a Banyan. It's native to The Indian subcontinent.
Question - Could you do a video for desi clothes i.e indian/pakistani clothes?
At least, someone said it. Really appreciated coz I do know my style and how to be good at my casual or professional life but kinda confused when it comes to traditional! Merriam please do that
@@gloomieeeee I know what you mean. I struggle with age appropriate ethnic clothes and not looking like an ammi (nothing wrong with Ammis but it ruins date night) 🤷
Haha sure, I know what you mean! And I really feel small in ghagra or qameez. I couldn't find a signal traditional dress that is as small as I am. I get lost in them often.
she isn't indian or pakistani though, she is algerian and russian. Not that she couldn't a video on it, but I feel many people think she is south asian, so they ask her about their traditional wear bc they think she is from there and knows a lot about it
Laura yes, I’m aware she isn’t Asian but she has done videos about Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra. I feel like she understands geometry and lines really well to be able to make a video about Desi clothing.
Your voice is so soothing
Hello I was wondering if you could suggest some colours to wear for different undertones. Also if its possible to make a different shade of a colour to work on a certain undertone in which its usually not suitable. Eg: if any shade of blue is suitable for warm undertone or which shade of yellow is best for cool undertone if a necessity to wear the colours arise.
Thank you so much, Merriam!:)
This video is so interesting, definitely gonna think about it, and watch it again. Btw awesome sketches, you look beautiful and your voice is amazing.
Great job as always! 😘
Looking elegant and radiant
This is probably a pretty niche suggestion but would you ever consider doing scrubs for the body types?
I wonder if the styles are variable enough? my first suggestion is to focus on color and make sure it looks lovely against the skin since it's probably difficult to go with a lot of make up during long shifts, so the color can carry the glowiness of the skin.
Cedar trees Smell amazing. Nice ring light. I'm surprised I could see the difference even in drawings! Good one.
Favorite tree are chestnut trees. So majestic. Maple for fall, cherry for spring and willows for the goth in me.
Hourglass here! If it's not fitted (just right) I look bigger than I really am and frumpy. It's hard to find clothes like this that aren't too sexy.
And I feel like I'm the second one maybe...
Also you look beautiful, Mariam!
Very interesting video, very illustrative. Many thanks!
Great video, Merriam!!! I have always wondered how useful the fruit system was in helping women dress for their bodies! Thanks for making us understand it really is all about your bone structure!
I love long needle pines...they make me think of my childhood spent camping in the New Hampshire mountains...
Thank you... you are the best. I watch all your videos till the end and every second and every word is suuuper helpful... and my favorite tree is birch too ;)
aw thank you!
You look stunning!
Thank you for this video! My favourite tree is definitely the magnolia, absolutely beautiful blooms
my favourite type of tree is a money tree. Any of you have a clipping to share? I could trade you some herbs maybe?
I found this video extremely helpful. I am struggling to dress my hourglass shape. I have a shorter narrow torso, larger chest with long thin arms and carry much of my weight in my bum and hips.
I don't have a favorite tree - I love them all! Thank you for this video!
Im definitely mixed but i keep gravitating towards sharp
my favorite tree is pine, because of how it's green year round and it's dead leaves are still pretty on the ground 🌲
So a mix CAN be sort of
Rounded from waist down
+
Sharp from waist up?
And with a beveled strong childish blunt asymmetrical face/hesd?
I couldn't understand it at first and thought it was all a faff but it actually makes SO much sense! She really knows what she's talking about.
Merriam, pls do a video like this for beveled types!!
WOW! THIS WAS SUPER HELPFUL!
My favorite tree is that type of maple tree that has reddish-purply kind of leaves.
The possibilities are frickin endless 🤩
yay!
I love willow trees. Have several childhood and romantic memories attached to them. Thanks for the video! I’ve enjoy listening to several of them!
