Late reply, but it's due to jank and the overabundance of jank in the market. There was a ton of "weird and obscure" games released in the last 5 years alone; the market is saturated. It also needs "jank polish", where it might be hard to comprehend but is polished enough that it looks good and functions for its intended, albeit strange, purpose. AI needs a hard rework, as well as the aiming needing fine tuning (A setting for headshot-default targeting would work fine.) Jank games used to be rare. You'd run across one game like 7.62 High Caliber in a year, now it's commonplace.

what's worse is that enemies have infinite ammo and due to that can fire faster than you, and then random npcs beeline for your base as soon as you take one over/build a campfire to rob you and kill you
