I may not be 100% with the Math Rock label either...but holy shit, who cares: if this is all really original music that you guys wrote...that's insane, you guys are ridiculously good. I clicked on this thinking it was going to be the same tracks in every math rock comp..much to my positive surprise after reading the description. Do you have more?
Thanks man! Yeah I agree, I just don’t really care about classifying it in a genre, it doesn’t feel like post rock to me so math is close enough. These are the only songs we tracked in a studio BUT there happens to be two live videos of us playing and they are two songs that aren’t on here. They’re on my channel, the two at Burlington in Chi
I noticed when ever I utter the label to someone, especially someone who has never heard of the genre, instant rage. I don't get it, I think maybe because it sounds pretentious, I personal don't give a shit I just like music having some sort of label to help me find my niche.
THIS IS JUST SO DAMN GOOD. Every single second of this, it's amazing! Truly enjoyable, thanks for making this, I say this with my heart. I am thanksful for being able to listen to this, music is... so special to me.
Oh man that bridge/breakdown - whatever you wanna call it - on The Zero Years is fucking fantastic. The whole album is great, but that part in particular makes me drop everything else I'm doing to fully absorb it.
Thank you. I'm curious though, which part are you referring to? IMO the song has two 'bridge-like parts;' a louder one and a softer one. In this video, the 'louder one' is 08:28 - 09:12. The 'softer one' is right after that, it starts at like 09:14. Thanks for the listen at any rate!
@@MadisonEmery Umm the part that starts at 10:17, I'm probably getting my terminology wrong but that's what I was referring to. Either way I've been listening to it multiple times a day for a week or more now. Just got paid as well so I'll definitely be buying this and the rest of your music, which is also great. Seriously I can't stress how good this album is, it's like you guys translated my soul into music. P.S. Great bass work.
*click* *click* *tap* mmhmmm *tap* *click* carry the one...*tap* tap* AH HA *STRONG CLACK* I've got it! I've mathematically proved you guys ROCK TO THE NTH POWER. That's the only math rock I know of baby, and you passed the test.
Thanks man! The three of us used to play live because we all grew up together, but as life happened we naturally had to go where we had to go. I think the songs are available at least on Spotify if you look up Madison Emery Math!
@@MadisonEmery yeah, I already noticed hahaha. It's crazy how you do such an extense variaty of music; it amazes me! At least, I am a big fan of math rock so I've given you at least 100 views on the last week xD.
Hello, I have two questions ! First, I see that there's a "debate" opposing people classifying this as "Math Rock" to other people classifying as something else, w/e what that is. Is there a clear answer somewhere Then, are these copyrights-free ?
Hey Muska; music genres have grown increasingly more niche & convoluted over the past two decades because of the internet & people's ability to share. While I wouldn't say that Math-Rock is any more or any less controversial of a title as any other genre or sub-genre, it's certainly subjective. Because it's ultimately subjective, there isn't an authoritative or definitive answer anywhere. If you're interested in researching the genre and its roots, look into Post-Rock, Prog Rock, Indie Rock, Midwest Emo and - this is the part that most people would find controversial - but jazz is an enormous influence on math rock. Also, the music is not copyright free but it is for sale!
About 47 T-Rexes Thank you! Derek the guitar player used some pretty unique tunings and used capos a lot. On the Bass you can technically play them all if you drop tune to D, but the 4th song is way easier if you just tune the whole bass down a half step! I’m not sure if you’re in IL but I teach bass in Hinsdale and Elmhurst!
Sounds in some odd time signatures to me. I’d say this is mathy. It does seem to be more prog like but I mean it still fits the math genre in my opinion
Math rock always lets me momentarily feel like a main character
00:00 March 99th
03:00 Much Too Quickly
06:55 The Zero Years
11:10 Stuck in SubCon
15:00 LoLo
19:10 The Winternet
22:45 Electric Ancestor
26:45 Perihelion
30:05 Cloudgebra

Ah yes the incredible musicians in the dark corners of youtube. Gotta love it
suddenly your album is slowly getting picked up by the algorithm gods.
You should be thanking them for their blessing.

I just realized this album came out 3 years ago and I still listen to it regularly.
Believe it or not, the three of us actually wrote & recorded this in like...I want to say 2012 or 2013.
Wow! Impressive not just technically but artfully expressed.

This is just proggresive rock.. why everything in a minor scale with tapping is math rock today? ..
Idk, this is just the best we could play/write at the time. Yea we aren't prodigies like toe or don cab but how many are haha
math rock is a sub gender of proggresive rock,
has irregular metrics and
intricate melodies...soooo
odd times signatures ;)
