  • My recent trip to Kokomo Speedway was packed with adventure, compliments of great track conditions and the High Limit Sprint Car Series tour, which put on one whale of a show for the packed house. I had a super-cool conversation with Kyle Larson and got an in-depth update interview from Tyler Courtney regarding his recovery. I also caught up with Monclova, Ohio's Byron Reed who after 34 consecutive years of hammer-down sprint car racing, will be retiring at the end of the 2023 season...so many super-cool stories to share. Part 2 on Kokomo High Limit Sprints is on the way. Thanks for all your support...enjoy! #KyleLarson #KokomoSpeedway #HistoryMysteryMan #TylerCourtney #ByronReed #HighLimitSprints #SprintCars #DirtTrackRacing #WorldOfOutlaws #KnoxvilleNationals #Indy500

Enjoyed every documentary that I’ve watched of yours and Byron Reed what a gentleman watched him twice a weekend in the mid nineties and sometimes at Millstream when they were still going, those were the days.

It's nice to tag along with you during the racing season. The racers you speak with never seem like they are in a hurry to wind things up with you. I think it's because you know a lot about them and their careers so they aren't going to get asked "empty" questions. Since you don't know who you will be able to spend time with, you can't go to wikipedia and read up on them before the race. Being involved with and following racing for many years, you know a lot about the cars, drivers, tracks, etc. I'm sure Byron Reed appreciated that you knew enough about him to know that his dad had recently passed away. You've spent time with Kyle Larson a number of times and he is always willing to take some time with you. For a big name racer like him, it's nice to see that he can be humble and approachable. Of course, you have to carefully pick your time to try to talk with people since they're often busy getting the car prepared, discussing strategy, changes to the setup, etc. I'm sure you know when to keep your camera in your pocket.

So many thanks...high compliments. I know what I know, but I also like learning alongside the audience...as I go...part of my style. It seems like a careful balance...knowing when to approach and when to hold back. It's never easy, so thanks for recognizing the hard parts...appreciate you. HMM

The highlight of this video Don for me was your featuring Ohio driver Byron Reed. What a fantastic career coming to an end. I've never actually met/talked to Bryon. But seen him race many times and watched him work on his car. I need to attend an Attica Race before Bryon stops racing and wish him well.

@@HistoryMysteryMan what you were there and I missed you? sunshine fractured a vertiebrey actually ? yikes hes right that could have ended up alot worse. when he was interviewed by the chaz on dirt guy, I wish Id of payed better attention I went by sunshines trailor and didn't even notice him.
jake day did a good job for awhile keeping up and handling that car which its obvious 7bc is made of good equiptment and crew but jake did a fair job for so young handling it. I could not belive the last 2 laps it came down to larson and peck, and peck not only broke the track record but won, over all I was pleased with the set up of kokomo, it compact set up but roomy it they say was rough but they really took to tending the track, I think as for kyle I would like to thank him for doing what the allstars and outlaws would not do for 2 years and bring national winged racing to the north half of indiana, though we also had a few regional fast on dirt winged 410's like circle city and montpilier, your lucky to get to talk to larson I cant really get 2 words from him hes all buisness when getting ready to race, the million and here, and he was kind enough to give me an autograph at the million, but I had to catch up to him when he was walking, and he never broke stride while taking 2 selfies and signing my book, all biz and his crew gate keeps. they arn't mean but they keep a sharp eye on keeping destractions away when he needs to be able to concentrate, i did get a brief view of my back side in the navy blue shirt by the trash can toward the last lap of the race on the flo broadcast, and the top of my head. sarry I missed you will you be at the 4 crowns, I think that will be my next race or if they rescedual terre haute I would like to do that but its been a buissy week. the show did not disappoint though and walking the track I cant belive how hard that clay is its like polished cement with tractor tire marks and ruts ground into it clay is solid and it has a decent progressive banking there I am guess ing 15 at the top of turn 1
