I started doing family vacations out there and fell in love with the sport of fly fishing. A lot of familiar views so I can’t wait to go back this summer. The backdrop in the videos is amazing and I don’t think you can beat the experience. You earned a subscriber from our channel. Great video!
I’ve made the trip from PA to Yellowstone each of the last few years. It’s a special place with more water than you could fish in a lifetime. The hopper bit in August/September is fly fishing Nirvana!
@@BackyardBassin The meadows of Nez Perce, Slough River, Gibbon, and Lamar are my favorites. Even the Firehole and Madison are excellent places to try. Hoppers are thick in that tall grass like locusts and the trout are just waiting for one to hit the water. The guys at Gallup’s told me last year was one of the best hopper bites ever on the Madison. Pink colored hoppers were the hot ticket.
Yellowstone and the surrounding area is definitely a great area. I lived part of the summer of 1993 in Yellowstone. It has a special place in my heart.
@@BackyardBassin ..yes it was. It was with Campus Crusade for Christ. I was on staff with them. A very special time of my life. Firehole was the first river I caught a Trout using a fly rod. I bought one before I went out west and fished with it for the first time on the Firehole.
As a guy who lives in Wyoming, this is a fun watch, and fun to see someone from back east come all this way and have success on the rivers they've read about! I'm not much of a fly fisherman, but this is still an exciting and cool watch! I look forward to seeing where else you head on this trip!
This video is outstanding. I love fishing the mountains of PA but the fish out west are of grade A quality. I had the opportunity to fish the BIg Horn in 2019 with my Dad, Son and lifelong friend and can't wait to go back. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful Dan, shame about all the traffic, seemed as though you had better fishing outside the park some lovely cutties, boy your so lucky the wildlife & scenery thanks so much for sharing & the info on the flies & book.Look forward to your next video.
Really enjoying the series. Gorgeous shots man. Unbelievable back drop to be fishing in. You are gonna look back fondly on this series. Can't wait to keep seeing it all unfold! The teaser for the next video looks good!
Glad you enjoy it! Haha yeah the food definitely helps show how much I was bumming it! Going to be some decent food content coming the last video of this series one some of my backpacking meals. Thanks for watching!
Thanks man for the nice video. Brings back memories of the Park. That traffic is crazy indeed. Back in the early 1990's it was a lot less for sure, by end of 1990's it was dramatically more cars on the road
Yeah it's kind of a shame really. But on the bright side it's nice to see people invested in Federally protected land. thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video!
The first stream you were at was where I camped last year. Every day in the morning and evening the fish were jumping. That was my first time fly fishing and even I managed to catch a couple fish.
"Step away from the crowds.." In YNP? Ya, not gonna happen. LOL. #14 Stimulator would work well there WITHOUT the dropper it's summer. I lived in the region for quite some time and am now stuck in Texas. I envy the heck out of your last "free" summer. Excellent vid.
Great video ! I’m starting to do some research on the area and what rivers to try I’m heading there from pa in the next month or so really trying to get some advice and maybe some streams to try and information would be greatly appreciated
Great video by this guy, sad it’s been 6 months with no answer. I wanted to ask what chest pack he has but will I have to wait 6 months for an answer ?
Excellent video. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is made up of 22 million acres so you must have caught Yellowstone Cutthroat in the Grand Tetons as well. What rivers did you fish and which fly shop were you in? The Lamar Valley is my favorite area in the park. Are you a Penn State grad? Did you take any of Joe Humphreys' classes?
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! As for the chest pack, it is the Fishpond Cross-Currents chest pack. I just linked it in the video description if you wanted to check it out.
Thanks for the support! As for the rod/reel combo, I use a Syndicate P2 10' 3wt paired with a Ross Animas. I linked them in the video description if you wanted to check them out. Thanks again!
I grew up fishing in the Gulf, streams and rivers, but I've never fly fished. Can you fish with a lure or spinner with the same results or should I learn to fly fish before heading that way?
I think that under certain conditions you could achieve the same results, but I think that all-around fly fishing would allow you to be more versatile for a variety of conditions and help you to catch the trout on their terms. There is a lot of good content on the advantages of fly fishing over conventional tackle for trout fishing on the blog Trout-Bitten.
I have been to yellowstone way back when i was a young kid......way before i ever knew anything about fly fishing. My question is since its all a national park can u fish anywhere? Say ur driving along and see a small stream u wanna try fishing can u just pull over and park and walk and fish anywhere u please?
Good question! Correct, you can fish anywhere in the park with a license unless there is a specific notice that you cannot fish that stream or section of stream. Occasionally they shut down places due to bear activity, whirling disease, and different things like that. But basically you can fish 99% of the water there. Hope this helps!
@@BackyardBassin Absolutely man. I sure appreciate the response. Now that im older i plan on eventually making trips to the mountains and big parks like this and do my share of wild trout fishin. Here in the boring state of Oklahoma there is no such thing as “wild” trout. Just stocked in a handful of places. Thanks again for the tip bud. God bless u sir
You can fish the Firehole River when the Park opens in late-May. And what ever lakes are iced out in June. But the good stream fishing doesn't start until after runoff mid-to-late July...with the best (most uncrowded) fishing mid-to-late September

I've never had the opportunity to fish hoppers out there but hope to get that chance someday! nothing like throwing big dry flies!

That is pretty cool, Craig! I didn't know that. I bet that was one great summer you had!

Amen lol. Yellowstone is so busy, but still worth checking out!
Great video ! I’m starting to do some research on the area and what rivers to try I’m heading there from pa in the next month or so really trying to get some advice and maybe some streams to try and information would be greatly appreciated
It's surprising how cold it gets at night there in the middle of summer.
Forgive me if this was asked, but what month of of the season was this trip! Great footage 😊
Great video by this guy, sad it’s been 6 months with no answer. I wanted to ask what chest pack he has but will I have to wait 6 months for an answer ?
Great video and my favorite part, you kept the stream names to yourself!
It’s Yellowstone, nothing is secret.
Excellent video. The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is made up of 22 million acres so you must have caught Yellowstone Cutthroat in the Grand Tetons as well. Nice time for sure...try a black ant size 24, 28...all I use is black ants. grass hoppers and stonefly-fly in hatch .
Love throwing big dries especially!
Very nice, what chest pack are you using? Thanks for taking the time to do these videos.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!
As for the chest pack, it is the Fishpond Cross-Currents chest pack. I just linked it in the video description if you wanted to check it out.
Check ur water temps if ur there in July /August. The Madison and fire hole are too warm to fish then
Nice vid. You definitely did better on the Madison outside the Park than the Soda Butte/Lamar
Awesome video. Amazing scenery! What rod/reel combo are you using on this trip? Can't wait for the next vid.....
Thanks for the support! As for the rod/reel combo, I use a Syndicate P2 10' 3wt paired with a Ross Animas. I linked them in the video description if you wanted to check them out. Thanks again!
which river or creek on 9:58? would be appreciated which part of the park it was
Is that a Project Healing Waters sticker on your vehicle?
👍👍
Where in the park were you fishing in the beginning?
I grew up fishing in the Gulf, streams and rivers, but I've never fly fished. Can you fish with a lure or spinner with the same results or should I learn to fly fish before heading that way?

What wt fly rod are you using
I leave tomorrow and it looks like their is going to be a cold front. Does anyone have any tips for fishing in those conditions.
What time of year did you go?
Neat video! What chest pack are you using?
2 years and no answer, did you ever figure out what chest pack he is using ?
To fish in Yellowstone or other national park, do you need US Govt fishing license or state fishing license?
I have been to yellowstone way back when i was a young kid......way before i ever knew anything about fly fishing. My question is since its all a national park can u fish anywhere? Say ur driving along and see a small stream u wanna try fishing can u just pull over and park and walk and fish anywhere u please?

Did you bring bear spray?
From Australia -- what is the fishing season in Yellowstone ??
I'd say it's from july to september! June sometimes depending on runoff
You can fish the Firehole River when the Park opens in late-May. And what ever lakes are iced out in June. But the good stream fishing doesn't start until after runoff mid-to-late July...with the best (most uncrowded) fishing mid-to-late September
You know it's time to go big when the fish tries to take your indicator...
Video but you don’t tell us where you’re at or what you’re using but you do look cool
first fish you catch is a bow, no cutties in the stream you were fishing
Why do you never say the name of the river you’re on? I have fished yellowstone since 2005. But couldn’t recognize that river.
My great uncle got attacked by a grizzly bear on the Firehole River in Yellowstone
Yikes. Lots of bears down there
Awesome 😍💋 💝💖♥️❤️
Thank you for watching!
Hate to be that guy but I do have a son who I'd like to catch fish in the future and his kids horrible fish handling.
Too late, you are that guy. Relax.
