    The only service they should provide is a legitimacy check otherwise it's a slimy business. This is an even bigger problem for sports cards.

    I always laugh when I see people selling base set packs as “unweighed”

    • @solemnstar2373
      @solemnstar2373 19 дней назад +1

      that indeed implies they know packs can be weighed. A bit of shrodinger's cat. Either they don't mention the weight, and maybe they don't know it can be weighed, maybe they do but they are being aloof. Or they do know, claim its "unweighed" and....well then what? Tell them to weigh it? If they did weigh it, they will confirm it fast by simply ignoring you. If they actually didn't, and then do weigh it, they can find it being heavy, and then ask for more money, or it is light, and now you probably don't even want it. Its a cruel and awful scenario. only 1 of 4 outcomes can potentially pay off to you as the buyer, and even then, its a 1 in 3 chance to be a holo, and a much higher odds to be anything worth a darn.

    • @Faber0k
      @Faber0k 15 дней назад +1

      @solemnstar2373 ive literally thought about this exact thing before. The odds of buying a base set pack thats actually unweighed, paying a fair price, pulling a holo, even more crazy to pull a charizard... you are more likely to pull a moonbreon in 2025 at this point.

      @@Faber0k and that is the awkward part. You essentially have to buy a booster box. Supposedly the odds of getting every holo in one box is pretty good. Remember what your mother taught you when you are younguns: It's what in the inside that counts.
    If what inside a sealed pack is worth only 20 bucks of bulk in total of a $500 pack from 2004. That pack has no business being 500$ in the first place.

      Pikachu gold star
      Mewtwo gold star
      gyarados gold star
      They can be worth thousands. Chances, of course, are not even 1 per booster box. And indeed even the pikachu which I think is most expensive, would never be enough for the contents of the box to equal $30,000. However, people put great value on sealed collecting too. Considering that angle, it puts an additional price pressure on the booster box. But at some level, the price just so exceeds any value of the contents, that it goes into goods as a means of money, like in the USSR when nobody drank the alcohol, they just used it as a bartering tool, and exceeded the rational relative value of the alcohol itself. I think that is where booster boxes have ended up. However modern hasn't. Even evolving skies, a moonbreon is still worth twice the price of a booster box. So its hard to say where the right value would be if the boxes were valued for the contents instead of their "mystique"? Not sure the right word for it.

    after watching PK's stream on this, something just feels fishy about the story itself. They took one photo of the fake box. So far, we don't know the auctionhouse this box apparently was sold on. Someone with better investigative skills than me on this could figure out if this box ever was sold. Why would you hide the proof of the sale? This is where the term "show the receipts" came from. Literally nobody has shown the receipt of this sale. I'm just feeling like I've gotten overly cynical and suspicious. It almost feels like maybe this was a PR stunt by the scanning company. The owner of the company has evaded a live with PK for some time now, they have treated rattle like he doesn't exist. Then suddenly when they have this fake, they are fishing for soundbites from pokemon card peeps? I don't know. Kind of weird. I just have this hunch that its a really skeevy stunt.
    In short- Could this fake be staged for advertising? Are we all being duped with the premise? Is rattle, by even making this video doing exactly what they were hoping for?

  • @worm4254

    Lab certs are law binding. If the CT company is capping they could be held federally liable. ITAR registered is usually reserved for exporters and monitor even closer. I do not believe the CT company would be wrong or be doing malpractices, especially if they offer services outside of strictly checking cardboard cards.

    I don’t trust the CT scanning company. There’s no oversight so I believe these guys made the fake box so they could make this video and gain our trust.
    If the box isn’t destroyed and / or result in charges made, this doesn’t really help the community.

    • @solemnstar2373
      @solemnstar2373 19 дней назад

      what if you took it in person? That would of course be incredibly exhausting but when it gets into the 5 figures range, it starts to be a little more worth it. Though I believe this is indeed the same box. They'd have to not only fake the box, but fake the box to look exactly like the specific box the person sending it in had. And I think they would have caught it if suddenly the wrap was totally different in the photos the CT company posted from the box you sent into them. I think they encourage and welcome customers to put their own anti-tampering measures onto their products. They don't need to be removed from any additional bag you put it in. And anti-tampering stickers are extremely accessible I found out. I think if they got caught even ONCE messing with products sent in, they'd be toast, no reputation, customers would dry up, and they'd get sued on top of it. I feel like this is more a case of being the tools seller. They don't care, its easier to sell you tools to look for gold in them hills than to risk life and limb themselves.
      Though, I will say, always be skeptical, and be meticulous in all your dealings. With things so expensive and rare, its vital to take your own before and after photos of whatever you might deign to send in.

    I'm sorry but can't you use the same logic you used to devalue the CT scan towards your reasoning why it's fake at a glance? If the box was correct (not hard to get a real empty box), and the wrapping was correct, you even said this one's wrapping wasn't that bad, then doesn't the CT scan have value? This might not have been a great example to submit to this company because all of the surface level issues, but I can still see value in their service, especially if they can verify if there are actual hits in the box, which no scammer would actually include.
    That combined with them being able to see glue, packet crimping, card amount, and other details adds up to a lot of things that a scammer would have to get right for it to pass as real. It seems like a semi-reasonable service.

    • @solemnstar2373
      @solemnstar2373 19 дней назад

      The person who sent it in may not have been certain. And the peace of mind on a 5 figure item for a few hundred dollars to confirm what is going on, is really not a bad deal, all things considered. But I agree, there was enough here to not need it. Though its not an awful fake. But a confusing one to be sure.

    Sorry man, but this PKMN TCG thing is a whole scam on itself. I can absolutely understand that specific cards have specific values because they are popular (fan favorites), rare (hard to get) and cause it gives the feeling of nostalgia back. However, paying this ridiculous amount of money for cards has become such a stupid thing. I’ve tons of graded cards (not by myself, cause I’m from Germany and I’m afraid that my shipping is getting lost), so I either buy them pregraded for having a secure option of a legitimate card (especially on nostalgic cards). On newer cards I prefer buying them or opening it by myself and open boosters instead. Back in 1999 fake products were already a thing and we laughed about that. But this entire thing is getting on a new level. Collecting and trading Pokemon cards is losing the charm and all what matters is tons of money. This executed methods of scamming are killing it completely. I’m sorry, but ppl thinking it’s a lifetime investment is such a stupid thinking cause it kills the hobby for all of us. I highly suggest to that ppl to buy crypto stuff or precious metals instead of taking this cards from real passionate collectors. Just a big shake of my head for this actions.

But the price what I’ve paid… just saying Goldstar Mew, Pop5 Mew and so on. Got dem and it burned my pockets massively. Ppl willing to buy old displays for such ridiculously prices gives scammers the opportunity to scam. And still tho, it doesn’t justifies this prices. Nostalgia on what price? The price of a new car? A whole house? Sorry, but going way too far.
