The Asta, Vanessa, Finral Combo is one of the most creative combos in the series.
Asta with his broken arms being held together by Vanessa and pulled along and through Finral's Portals to making him basically a anti magic projectile.
This series does Team ups so well and this is just the start of the more advanced team play the rest of the series has to offer.
Yes not the typically friends and family power up where the one person just ass pulls out of nowhere. Half the black bulls are already down or not even here lol

Its hard too even blame Finral for his cowardice. Like, as viewers of a shonen, we all know that the key is to just not give up right? But irl, you aren't guaranteed plot armor or power-ups. I still think you don't have much of a choice in the matter but to fight, I'm just saying his fear is justified. Kudos to him and the others for finding the courage to keep fighting against these odds. Also, Vetto calling out Finral's speed and accuracy right off the bat says a lot for his actual skill.
Also, its my head canon that Yami constantly uses him as a taxi as a form of training. I don't know if you remember when Asta took the magic knight exam, but Finral was holding the portal to the base open as Yami was talking to Asta, and Finral asked them to hurry because it was difficult to hold a portal open that long for the distance. Yami told him back then to tough it out and surpass his limits.
