Hey Seun, your hair journey is giving me life girl, all the way from Botswana, truly inspired by your work. Quick question; have u experienced any breakage since u passed the shoulder length plateau? Particularly that now you're at waist length, if so please advice on what you did to work around and restore back to your growth journey, possibly make a video on it? Thanks you!

I use fenugreek with black seed oil to grow my hair, I don't really use protective styles. My hair is armpit length, it is relaxed as well it took one year using black seed oil & fenugreek to grow it.

I’m so here for the no emphasis on products. Black people waste so much on products to assist with growth, and it’s just not true. All we need is - a good shampoo, deep moisture treatment, protein treatment, a leave-in conditioner, oil and a heat protector, the end. I say, focus on maintaining healthy hair and protective styles; and keep your fingers out your hair, our hair is so fragile.

Fr black hair is so monetized. They exploit our desperation for long hair and woo us into buying their products. Most of the black hair companies are not even black owned 🤦🏽‍♀️ My hair started growing when I stopped using so much products. I wish every black person will realize this.

I can retain length natural and relaxed. Its just the routine I use. Relaxed hair can grow very long just as being natural. It is just the way a person cares for their hair. I had waist length hair relaxed and natural. The reason I'm natural now is because my hair looks thicker and is stronger. Plus the relaxers kept breaking the nape of my neck part. Which is taking it much longer to grow than the rest of my hair, and I always had my hair professional relaxed. My hair is very long while the nape of the neck is 2-3 inches shorter than the rest of my hair. Every time I relax it breaks off in that area.

This my exact regimen and my hair is at waist length. Protective styling is the best way to retain the length that biology naturally provides. As long as the style isn't done in such a way that would inevitably cause breakage (like tight or bulky styles), or leaves some parts of your hair exposed, you will retain length.
But above all, DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. If you retain length even if you flat iron and comb your hair every single day, keep doing it lol (that would never work for me, but do you sis! Lol)

I totally agree with you on leaving the hair alone to allow it to grow. I’ve noticed tremendous growth in my daughter’s hair since March of this year. Although this wasn’t done on purpose, I’ve only been able to wash and redo my daughter’s hair every 4-6 week because of my new super busy work schedule. She’s 9 now and it took me 6 years to find a growth method that works ( figured it out on accident 🤣 ). I used to wash and redo her hair every 1-2 weeks and her hair just wasn’t growing much....but now...omg! I schedule a professional trim once a year and I keep protective styles in until I have time to wash and redo it. I now believe that the less you comb and pull your hair the more it will grow. Her hair is now 16 inches long and 100% natural.

The main thing for me was no heat! When I first started relaxing my hair I would straighten it all the time because it was laid and looked so good. Little did I know I was burning/breaking my hair off. My hair thinned out badly. So I stopped the heat and even continued relaxing for a couple years now and my hair has gotten thick again. Relaxer isn’t damaging to the hair and it doesn’t stop growth. It’s really how you take care of it (treatments/deep conditioning/protective styling/etc.)

Finally somebody with something simple!! I'm West Indian (Caribbean) and I do think that the variety of natural hair products is great however i always found myself back to the basics when it comes to growing my hair. When i was younger in primary school (grades k -6), my hair care regimen was greasing and oiling my scalp and hair also adding a leave in, then my mom or cousin would cornrow or plait my hair for the next 2 weeks. Only difference is that i change the shampoo & conditioner that I used and the method in which i untangle my hair.
Last weekend I realised that my hair is actually down my back. All i did was put it in a protective style( mainly small plaits) and leave them in for 2 weeks to a month simply because i have a sweaty scalp. I also use aloe vera & oil when taking down protective styles, it giving more of a slip when detangling. MORAL OF THE STORY: LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE AND WATCH HOW YOU HANDLE IT!

Wow. This is so So interesting. I’m 100% natural. And protective styling for me (braids, wigs, weaves) are so drying and causes so much breakages for me. But I need need need regular moisture and seal. I always see the most growth when I have a set and standard hair regimen with includes regular moisture and seal (with set products like aloe vera and Ayurveda) . This is why I love the hair community. Because all of our journeys are so unique to us. What works for one may not work for someone else, but that doesn’t mean each of our stories can’t help someone else along the way in some way. And that is such a beautiful thing!

I agree. I have high porosity hair and my hair needs moisture so I do have to touch it to moisturize it. On wash day I put my hair in twists/braids. The second day I don’t have to moisturize, but day three I do. If I don’t take my down my twists all week they get tangled. I have natural hair. Typically, I take them down on the third day moisturize and retwist. Sometimes if I don’t retwist it after the take down I will wear it in a bun for the rest of the week.

@@octaviacron7647 a lot of the times we say that because clients often get offended when you suggest a trim plain out. Like I understand a lot of stylists seem scissor happy but so many people have damaged ends but because their hair is long people don’t see anything wrong with their hair. So when it does come time for a for a true trim people feel like stylist are cutting a lot on purpose and people stay away from trims.

I cut my hair at the beginning of quarantine back in like April, I've being doing mini twists and other protective styles ever since and there's been so much growth so far! I plan on protective styling throughout 2021, I'm hoping I'll finally see the length retention I've been trying to accomplish.
Also taking down your protective styles properly is sooo important. I used to do box braids all the time but I would take them down while my hair was completely dry and brittle, no moisture, no oil or anything at all. I could've retained so much more length back then if I knew what I know now.

Just wanted to throw out there for people that styles don’t necessarily grow your hair, how you take care of it and the fact that it will retain length will depend on much growth you get while wearing protective styles. A lot of people wear braids/weaves/wigs,and won’t oil it,grease it,condition it,etc and wonder why they are losing hair and not retaining anything while wearing a protective style. Also everybody’s regimen/hair will be different. Basically take a care of your hair while it’s in a protective style and you will see length retention. You were spot on with everything! ❤️ especially with the cheap products

This and stretching my relaxers out to about 2 inches of new growth got me to bra strap length on accident/without even trying. Now my goal is to self relax and learn to braid so EVERYTHING is in my control thus hoping to get to waist length. I do use a protein conditioner/harder protein treatments in-between protective styling but only because my mom (cosmetologist) relaxes my hair bone straight (which I hope to stop doing when I begin to do my own relaxers) just because I think its why my hair requires so much protein and sheds so much. Seun's videos have helped me with my take down process and so much and I am honestly sad to see she is natural but I excited to see how well she does with easy, simple hair care for naturals. I went natural but relaxed because my life revolved around my hair and I just did not have the patience when I saw nothing but loose textures having the time of their lives and very few 4c RUclipsrs at the time.

I don't know if you will see this but I have to thank you for all the advice I have gotten from you which have worked. I also always thought myself to be unlucky in the genes aspect of hair growth but I noticed that my hair grew a lot when I left it be; note; I cut my hair for 6 years which I always thought a bad thing till I discovered it saved me from having terribly over processed hair like my mom and afterwards, I had to do a stressful programme which made me have little time for my hair, so it was usually in a protective style, it grew a lot but when I came home in quarantine, I was tempted to do all these strict regimens after looking at RUclips videos and was quite disappointed.
Anyways, what all this long story is about is that, all the tips I have gotten from you have really worked not to talk of the inspiration I get seeing your hair this long 😂😂 so thank you❤

Protective styles is the key guys. My back hair kept on cutting off and I just told myself one certain morning “am not going to touch this hair anymore. Let me just wash my hair and leave it in a cornrow protective style”
I did that and to tell you the truth, I went to the saloon many months later to relax my hair and I was so shocked by how much my hair grew when I didn’t even do too much.
In my own perspective the key to growing your hair is letting it be and go about your stuff, take care of your hair with organic shampoos and put them in protective styles……leave that hair and mind to business, girl prepare to be shocked afterwards for the amazing growth 🤣🤣🤣. Talking from experience!!!

I spent all of 2019 wearing protective styles because I was tired and frustrated with my 4c natural hair "journey". By Spring of 2020 my eternally shoulder length hair had grown to mid back. After years of watching "hair journey" videos, trying condintioners, oils, serums, supplements, pre-poo, no-poo, co-wash, apple cider vinegar, hair steaming, protein treatments... all to get my hair to grow. I discovered that the best thing to do was nothing, don't touch it and it will grow. *ATTENTION ⚠️*
HERE ARE SOME MISTAKES I MADE RELAXING MY HAIR WHICH I ENCOURAGE YOU NOT TO MAKE:
    1. I didn't do enough research - before I got my very first relaxer, I genuinely believed that I could turn my 4C hair to 4A. That was a bit embarrassing 😂
    2. I oiled my scalp every single day - My scalp was extremely greasy and developed product buildup overtime. This actually prevents growth, as too much oil in the scalp can mess up with your natural hair oil balance the more, which leads to fragile and damaged hair.
    3. I brushed and played with my hair too much - I now go by this one policy: *The less hair you pull out, the more hair you'll have.* When your fingers touch your hair too much, they can actually steal away natural oils, leading to dry and fragile hair strands. And don't even get me started with brushing 😅. Brush your hair when you need to, not when you want to. And don't be too rough with your hair.
    4. I washed my hair every week but eventually started putting less oil in my hair -
Okay, I know I said that I overused my oils, but eventually I got lazy and stopped oiling my hair (which is just as bad). There is nothing wrong with washing your hair once a week, but shampoo and oils go hand in hand. Shampoo takes out the dirt and oils, you use oils to moisturize hair again. But oiling my scalp less caused a lot of dandruff build up and breakage overall.
    5. I used heavy products - Unless you have high porosity natural hair, I don't advice heavy products use. Putting too many products and putting too much of one product falls in the same category. You really just need a shampoo, hydrating conditioner, deep moisture treatment, leave in, curling poo, and a strong oil. Everything else is really extras.
    6. I didn't part my hair - Mostly because I didn't know how. However, this made my hair harder to deal with. If your don't learn to part your hair in some way (whether with your hand or with clips), relaxed hair then becomes hard to manage. You can always watch videos on youtube to teach you how!
    That's all!
