    I have been doing 3D animation since i was 10 and have been wanted to get into the industry since then. I wanted to start at an animation school, but the road had been blocked by the fact that i need high school, something i have tried and failed 2 times. I have lost alot of motivation because of it, but resently i finished my degree as a decks officer and in a hope of it helping me getting into an animation program, I showed my diploma to some schools and got confirmation that it would do. The plan now is to start Animschool in the summer at the age of 19 if nothing special pops up. Who knew that becoming a captain would help me on the road to become an animator.
    Still love your videos. Keep it up

      That's awesome dude!! Keep at it and good luck as you start the program!! I bet somehow the experience will come back up in a helpful way as you animate- every experience helps shape your lens through which you see the world- and through that, the way you animate. Let me know if there's ever any video ideas that would help you out!

    Video came at the right time! I'm in this weird space of not really knowing what I want to do as my career since I just decided last month after my first semester of college that I don't want to do premed anymore. I want to become a storyboard artist but my parents heavily disapprove and think that I won't be able to get a job even tho they think I'm talented. I don't know anymore. I really want this since it's the only thing I won't and see myself doing but I really do want a job after I graduate. And watching your videos especially this one gives me a drive to improve my art as much as possible if I really want it! Thanks!

      mirissasweetsound101 I totally understand what you're going through- I'm glad this video helped!! I have another interview filmed with a department manager at DreamWorks, which is pretty much the top of the hiring pyramid when it comes to bringing in the artists for the studio. She talks a little bit about school and degrees and career placement and stuff like that, so hopefully you can use that to help calm your parents and help them understand what opportunities you may have by pursuing what you really want to 🙂 Do what makes you happy!! There's so much opportunity for you in this space!!

    Just started binge-watching all your videos and this is incredibly helpful and inspiring!! I am currently an animation student at SCAD so to hear that Ben graduated from my school is the coolest thing! Thank you for making these videos and giving such helpful tips for aspiring animators like myself... I don't know if you've made a video for this yet, but if you have any tips for creating animation portfolios that would be stellar! I find myself getting stuck even starting a portfolio; I'm not sure where to begin. Looking forward to seeing more from you!

    What a great talk! There’s the awful truth that most of the time, hard work doesn’t pay off... 98% of landing a job is luck, and most people aren’t lucky. But there’s the other half... where it’s never too late 😊

    • @Shimamon27
      @Shimamon27 Год назад +1

      Hard work is lost time.
      Smart work, is well earned pay.
      Society misled people to become proficient employees that benefit only the corporations hiring them.
      It's hard to shift mentality... But, I give it a go.

    Become an animator is kinda my dream job, but I'm not one of those people that start at young age. I did try animating before as a kid but I give up and sadly I didn't continue learning about it, as at that time I'm more into drawing anime characters. The second time I try animating was when I got into diploma for animation but I'm only started animating at semester 3, where I finally learned how to animate properly. That is around 2016 at the age of 22. I graduated at the end of 2017 and I feel like shit, not confident, anxious, a bit scared as my animation skill is garbage.
    So what happen after that? I went to a college ("certificate" which is below diploma by the way) and I'm slowly sharpening my animation skill this year (2018) at the age of 24. I'm planning to either quit college next year and learn by myself or continue college and get apprenticeship at the college I'm studying. Either way, I have to decide soon.

    #1 Learn Maya, it is the industry standard, like it or not.
    #2 Just do it! Animate something, anything! Close this video and do it now!
    #3 Luck, knowing the right people and being in the right place at the right time.

      Well, blender certainly took a huge step over time.
      The real thing is - just create, show, take chances and grow.
      Pointless to sit in the spot and think about things or just be stuck on a learn-loop.

    Wade would you ever consider making a video about types of universities for aspiring animators? I teach high school art and I have many students interested in pursuing animation- we have SCAD a state away but the financial aspect I find worrisome. It’s SO MUCH MONEY to attend art institutes and I don’t exactly feel like it’s required to land a job in the animation field. It’s a question I get asked all the time in the classroom and something my students always have on their mind and I would love to hear your view on it. And maybe you did speak on this in a prior video that I may not have seen yet....... Thank you for all your great content!

    • @SirWade
      @SirWade  5 лет назад +2

      It's definitely a topic I want to address! Universities vs Private Schools vs Art Schools vs Online vs Self-Taught- there's a lot of options to keep students hopefully out of debt with the best chances of being hired based on what they learn in school!
