I lost my beloved wife Cheryl in December 2018. I was devastated. I wanted to run away, leave this space. But I couldn't, because her spirit wouldn't let me. And then I heard Aaron: "I want to leave this place ... Go walking in a different space ... Don't wanna see the pain in your eyes ... Don't wanna feel your saddening grace ... But my lover has an elegant way ... She shines the sunlight of her days on me ... Shine it all over me ... Shine it all over you ... Now I can't walk away and I can't break free ... It's a turnaround." And this is now my anthem. Rest in peace, Aaron Tokona, and thank you for your gift of music. And to my beloved Cheryl, thank you for your gift of love.
Went to see Fly My Pretties a couple of years ago and it was so dull until Mr A Tokona took the lead and blew the room away. Great voice, guitar playing, stage presence & you could just tell he was having a good time. I hope he's now rockin out in the sky somewhere.....
This is my go to when im getting irresponsibly drunk. I first heard it at a gang pad and everyone was happy and not being all "hard" tough guys for 5 mins dancing and singing lol. Its was a good moment ❤❤
Don’t know what else was happening in the world at the very moment of this live recording but I feel like this was the place to be for anyone anywhere. What wonderfully beautiful heady nugget. Fun fun
Love you all FMP. Sorry for the loss of your bro. Such a smooth and uplifting collaborative bunch you all are. Please come back to Byron Bay Bluesfest if this freaking world ever goes back to some sort of normal :-)
Whoever was on the mixing desk would have been busy; by my count they had three keyboards, two drummers, five BVs, five guitarists, mandolin, lead vocals & bass playing at once...crumbs!
@@paulleonard47 I've seen them (Fly My Pretties - a revolving cast of kiwi musicians) live in NZ years ago, but this lineup with Aaron, I was lucky to see at the Athenium Theatre in Melbourne Nov 2011 ;-)
8 years later, and i was just grazing through a few videos today, and came across Stevie Wonder playing "Superstitious" live, and heard a few keyboard riffs being played, and thought "Shit that sounds familiar, but from where ? " ...it took me 30 minutes to get the old brains working, then voila ! I thought about this great track ! Okay, they weren't exactly note for note, but the roots of this song sound similar....or maybe I've had too much to drink this long weekend - hmmmm ?
Yes - seems like these guys have trouble writing their own riffs and have to take one of Stevie's. Two bars into the riffs and it IS superstitious. Shame about the guitar guy snuffing it. But I do get irate, as a long time musician, hearing copied riffs - and so blatantly.
