Today, we'll be milling out some long brass profiles inside the Haas Automation VF5 vertical mill, programmed using Mastercam 2018. This was a fun project, but was fraught with a few issues related to internal stresses in the metal, so take a peek to see what we did about that.
Thanks for watching!

you have any video that shows manufacturing process of brass stair nosing profiles? Please share the link
I wonder if the Titans of machining guy's tip on using longer vise jaws would help with stuff like that? Nothing too complicated, just longer vise jaws sticking out of each side, might give slightly better holding. Could help spread the clamping force out over a larger area too.
It definitely would! I actually have long aluminum jaws around 60" long that bolt into multiple vises to do the same thing more or less. It works really well! I'm not 100% sure why I didn't do that here.
I visited a profiles factory a couple of months ago. They relax the brass by putting it in an oven overnight. I forgot the temperature. Just remember that zinc melts at low temperature, so the relaxing temp should be below. No thermal shock. Easy temp up, and easy down.
I like your channel. This is the third or forth video I watched today (kurt vise brought me here.. :).
Those parts looked nice, glad to know heat treatment was so useful in brass I had no idea!
Look forward to seeing more videos with cam be it master cam or fusion360
