As a deaf person, this is one of the best videos I have seen. Without relying on verbal or written instructions, each step is very clearly demonstrated and each detail slowly and clearly shown. Thank you~!
You're welcome❤︎
Yes!! I’m a visual learner as well, and I never use cut out patterns.
The music is so soothing, relaxing, fun and unintimidating. It encourages me to try, even when I feel inexperienced and lacking proper tools.
This mask is so effective for people with asthma, I made this for my sister and now she can breath wearing this mask. Thank you!!
That's nice. I'm happy to help you. Take care❤︎

I like that little hand held presser.
Thank you SO much for this life saving tutorial. I'm not an experienced seamstress, I tried it and succeeded, thanks! I have tried one other tutorial (not yours) and it did not work out well. This was was easy to follow, I felt empowered looking at my finished mask. I sewed mines with a needle & thread, no machine and it STILL came out PERFECT! I had a tape measure and a big, bulky level measure stick from my husband's tool kit to work with and this tutorial STILL worked out. The mask is very comfortable and does not touch my mouth and nose AND I can breathe. The measurements for the elastics don't hurt my ears, as well. Every little detail is complete. Also, I learned how to sew DARTS. Thanks! Oh, I have glasses and this mask does not fog up my lenses, even without a metal piece. The dart is enough and very comfortable.
I'm happy for your comment. Thank you❤︎
Thank you, wore the one I made today and it felt like it wasn't there. I have asthma and hate usual masks but i could have kept this one on for longer!
This has to be the best video I have seen. The instructions are so easy to follow, and to be free is amazing.
Thank you for being so kind to share this with us.
Thank you for watching. I'm happy to your comment.
This is very generous of you to share your pattern and with such great instructions, thank you. I might sound dramatic but you really are saving lives by sharing your work. A million blessings to you.
Thank you so much❣️
Thank you so much!!!! I have made many styles of masks (some of them yours), and this one is by far the easiest to sew, after you do the math and marking, which is part of the fun for me. Instead of elastic, I cut t-shirt strips (1 1/2 inches wide), stretched them, and then sewed them in so that my husband can tie the mask behind his head to fit his face better. He has breathing problems, and other masks I've made are hard for him to breathe in. This one fits him perfectly (5' 10" and about 190 pounds), and he was very excited about how easy it is to breathe in. I asked him about including a nose wire in the next one, and he says this design doesn't need one. I do think that next time I will zig-zag the edges of the filter pocket so that it won't fray when I wash it. And I love your cat!!!!
Sherri - How long are the t-shirt strips? I want to try that too.
@@janelake3016 I just cut strips from the bottom of an old t-shirt. I measured mine, and each one is 38" long after stretching, and each one goes through one side. I'm sure you could use shorter strips. My husband ties one at the back of his head above the ear and one behind his head below the ear. He says they are very soft and comfortable. There is plenty of room for a bow and some left over. Each of the 4 "straps" ends up being about 18" long.
I'm happy to help you. Thank you for your comment.
I have watched many of your mask videos, so I shouldn't be surprised at how clever the designs are. But every time, I am! Such a clever design, a pleasure to sew, and comfortable to wear.
This was a lot of measuring and constantly double checking that I wasn't sewing the wrong thing...but the final product is amazing. My mom, who has asthma and gets anxiety from wearing a mask, finds this one the most tolerable. She said she actually doesn't mind wearing this style so I'll be making a lot more of them for her! Thank you very much. If I could make a suggestion, getting your camera closer to the fabric when you're tracing lines would be very helpful.
I'm happy to help you. Take care stay safe.
And thank you for your advice.
Thanks so letting everyone know this is tolerable for persons with breathing difficulties. Just what I need to know. I’ll make it for my Mom.
Thank you for being one of the only RUclips mask crafters that actually shows what the mask looks like on the face! I made the first one and I like it. Will try this one now.
Thank you. Do your best!!
I have tried EVERY pattern for masks. This one is the best of the best. The only modification is I make a half moon scallop with the mid point of 1/2 inch from the nose to the temple before turning right side out so it does not ride up under my eye as I wear glasses. I’ve made so many and people always compliment me and say how they like it.
That's good idea!! Thank you for you made this one.
I just finished making this -- once you get the markings on it's a very quick sew. I transferred the markings onto paper so I could quickly make a few. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for watching and you made it.
I also made some; I have a panic disorder and have found other masks to be torture to keep on (I kept them on, but it was really panic-inducing and limited my ability to go places). I found I need to make the mask a big larger for my face, but because these measurements work on larger pieces as well, it was very easy to do. Thank you so much for this wonderful pattern and your clear directions!
Super easy to follow! The mask is very comfortable and breathable. For the people saying it looks difficult, it really isn't! I've never made a mask before and I did this one pretty quickly. Thank you so much!
Thank you. I want many people to know your comment.
I sew so many style of masks but I can recommand this one, as the best style of others. I love it.
THank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Exactly what I've been looking for!
One little tweak I made was to add a 6" x 9" rectangle of fusible interfacing down the center of the fabric rectangle before beginning (place it so that it essentially looks like a big stripe on the fabric, NOT centered in the rectangle like a picture frame). This gives a little extra structure and support to the boxy shape of the mask. NOTE: the fusible interfacing will decrease the breathability of the fabric slightly; however, some studies done early on in the DIY mask making indicated that the interfacing was also a helpful source of filtration (but NOT MEDICAL GRADE).
Thanks again!
Thank you for watching. That's good idea❣️
Great draft and a perfect fit. Beginners who can sew straight lines, pivot and continue, this is the mask.
Yes, thank you. I want everyone to try it.
My right hand is really hurting after hand sewing for all these months ... It literally takes me 3-4 hours to finish just ONE mask! Getting the needle tru 2 and 4 layers of good fabric is harder than it seems :( Any tips?
Simpler mask. Less sewing.
My new go-to favorite mask! I've made 4 in the last day and am so very happy with the results. Now that I have a feel for the adult size, I'm going to start testing re-sizing for kids. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for you mede 4!! Do your best.
What are your proportions for sizing? I would like to make this a little larger for my husband.
He posted a video June 25, 2020 for a larger size. I'll have to check it out also.
Thank you for this tutorial! This is the only mask I've tried on that I am comfortable in for teaching! And my glasses don't fog up! I just might be able to pull off this back-to-school thing with my mask without passing out!
That's good.
A great mask. Video was beautifully constructed as well.
Just finished my first mask using this pattern and I LOVE IT! I hate all my other masks bc they give me a rash/acne from rubbing/touching the skin on my face, but I can already tell this mask is not going to give me issues. TYSM for sharing this pattern and tutorial! I'm going to go make more now :)
I am happy that you are pleased.
Thank you! With temperatures reaching 100 F now and the heat of the summer is usually mid to end of July to mid to late August and humidity variable this mask should help us asthmatics. Love the inclusion of a filter pocket!
This looks great for people who struggle with having stuff over their mouth/nose, thanks for the tutorial!
Just made this. SUPER comfortable fit. Great mask!!
Thank you. I will try this pattern next. I also really appreciate the addition of measurements in inches!!
Me too, Pirata Buki. It's just easier for we old Americans! LOL
Great Turorial. No talking, and great nice and slow instructions.
I love this mask! If anyone wanted to make custom sized versions of this mask for themselves or their loved ones. I think my resizing so far is only in the vertical direction, so I may come back with an update for width (which may be important especially for kids masks) though it wasn't needed for me and my partner.
Very easy - the first dimension they use for the initial cloth is 34cm x 24cm. To change the vertical size, just adjust the 34cm up or down. Every 2cm change to the 34cm results in 1cm of change to the final mask (because it is folded in half).
For me, 1cm smaller fits well (my face nose bridge to chin is approximately 11cm), so I would reduce the 34cm to 32cm (-2cm). For my partner 2cm larger fit him well, so I adjusted the 34cm to 38cm (+4cm).
Everything else on the mask for an adult is basically the same! I hope this helps if anyone is interested in adjusting the size for their mask.
*OPTIONAL* another thing you may want to consider is hemming the opening (where you change the filter). In which case, the mask I made for me was still 34cm, but the extra 2cm were used to make the hem.
Those are good ideas. Your comments will be useful to many people.
I am a novice and just tried this. My new favorite mask. You can actually breathe while wearing this! Love it! Thank you so much for the tutorial. My husband just asked me to make him one but when I do the 2 darts I will space them about 1 more centimeter apart to fit his chin better.
That's good idea❣️
After trying several patterns for face masks I have decided this is my favorite. I just made another batch with the addition of using a fusible interfacing on the cotton cloth and a layer of cotton batting between the two layers.
This is by far the best face mask I’ve seen and the video is very well thought out... Thank you
Thanks. Your pattern was easy to follow with clear steps that were great. Your use of colored marks helps alot
I made this mask and I really like it. It is easy to breathe. And I am hoping my speech will be less muffled. Thank you for this pattern and tutorial.
I'm glad this one helps you.
Fascinating! Like sewing origami. Or precision engineering. Love it. I'll try it. Thanks for sharing.
You can do it. Do your best!!
I've sewn many patterns trying to find the best fit. I'm a teacher and this one is a winner of for me. Thank you for sharing your pattern. It can be a little tricky making the darts, but your directions are simple. God Bless!
Thank you for watching.
Beautiful. I made so many of 3 dart face mask learning from you.My family loved them. Thank you. You are showing step by step easy to follow & with the perfect measurements. Thank you soooo sooo much.
This is like watching an episode of Mr. Rogers...so therapeutic 😌
I was thinking the same thing throughout the whole video....lol
I made your mask with one dart and I really like it...I'll try this one now. Thank you so much for sharing
Do your best❣️
🐝 Those of us with allergies often have difficulty with a mask rubbing against the nose. Thank you for providing a comfortable alternative.
ALL of your mask designs are wonderful. You are an amazing designer. These styles are like fabric origami; with an amazing design element. I have asthma and I can actually breathe in your masks. Thank you very much for your contribution during these horrible times we are currently living in. I send everyone to your videos and tell them that your mask patterns are the best on RUclips. Easy to follow. Simple to make. (I hand sew mine and it's a breeze!) Keep up the good work. Each video is a pleasure to watch and learn from your expertise. Bless you for sharing your designs with the public for free. BADFoote
Thank you for your comment. I'm so happy❤︎
Erst sah es so Kompliziert aus - aber beim Step by Step nachnähen eigentlich ganz einfach.
Danke schön! Bleibt Gesund
Danke fürs Zuschauen und du hast diesen gemacht.
Thank you so much for your great design! This is the first truly breathable mask design I've made. I have breathing problems and am able to wear your mask with no problem.
That's good!! Thank you for you made this one.
The mask looked complicated, thankfully your demo is so detailed and smooth that I am able to follow! 👍👍💕
Thank you for clear, easy to follow instructions. I love how it sits very well on the nose and cheeks.
I’m a very amateur sewer, but I am going to try this out tomorrow! My son has severe asthma and his school is full time face to face so this will help him tremendously
I'm sure you will like it. Do your best!!
Me to Jessica (amateur - very much so). at first this was overwhelming but I took my time and didn't focus on how many steps there are to complete, but just focused on doing each of them as they came and now I am on like my tenth mask. My daughter has severe asthma and respiratory issues and she loves this mask. Good luck!
@@michelewassell6759 Yes, I remember making one many months ago, and me too at first thought, omg, looks so complicated but if you take your time and do one step at a time, it wasn’t so bad at all!
This is the best one so far. I doesn't touch the nose or the mouth and it is a fog free too (important to me bc I'm wearing glasses) . Thanks so much for sharing your design around the world.
You're welcome.
Oh it's very complicated but I'll try one
Great tutorial! I’ve tried a lot of mask patterns. As a novice sewer, I found this pattern to be easy to do and not fussy. I especially like that the mask doesn’t touch my lips.
What is the blue and red thing used to draw the lines??? New to sewing!

I enjoyed making these masks. They look good on and are very comfortable to wear. Thank you for your video and instructions. Well done!
I love your design, and quiet, calm music. To speed construction, I will print templates on freezer paper, and mark around that for darts. Thank you so much, I am making this for my friend who has trouble breathing, she should feel much better and more comfortable in your mask.
Your friends will surely be happy. Do your best. Thank you.
@DIYCraft JP As I am studying the video again and making my iron-on templates, I am amazed at how refined your design is, and the very thoughtful 3D insight you have into design and construction. Wow, very good creativity. And I love 💕 the cat segments 🐕 🐾
I’m going to give it a try, one step at a time, don’t think too far ahead...like life, especially now. Stay safe, happy and healthy everyone.
This is the most comfortable mask. I can actually breathe in it. Thanks so much.
This is perfect fit and definitely more breathable than the simpler styles I've tried, thank you. It was easy to follow your video even a novice like me!
That's good.
Absolutely love the fit of this mask. I’ve made 10 for use at work and I expect my colleagues will want them too. Thank you
Oh!! Thank you. If you make them, they'll be happy.
Made this mask using the pattern..thank you. Turned our great.
I love this mask. I have to go through video to several times to get measurements, but cant't wait to try it. Thank-you for sharing.
Do your best. I'm sure you will like it.
Thank you so much. What an excellent video. And the kitty is a wonderful extra treat.
❤︎🐱❤︎🐱
I will try this tomorrow. The other face masks I sewed are really hard to breath through. I hope it will be better with this one. By the way, you have very beautiful hands. Greetings from Germany and thank you for your generosity
Thank you. Do your best!!
Many of the fabrics have tight weaves, so breathing will be hard, especially all the cute quilting fabrics. I look for fabrics with weaves that aren’t so tight.
@@flyingcat2054 The looser the weave, the less protection for those around you.
Thank you I found your instructions quite clear and easy to understand. I have now made 4, the first taking the longest as i was following the video and pausing with each step the next 3 were easy as i knew what i had to do. So nice to see a man sewing. A very comfortable mask 💖💖💖👌👌👌👌
I am happy that this tutorial is useful for you.
Your mask designs are wonderful. I have made several of different designs and they are all comfortable and not difficult to make when following your tutorial.
Thanks a lot❤︎
I’m glad that you put both measurements I use inches. Thanks!
Do your best❤︎
Really clear instructions. Easy to make. I found that this one fogged up my glasses less, so added benefit! Your meezer is very cute.
Thank you.
Yes, misty glasses are no fun!..Especially when driving.
Brilliant. Thank you so very much for your generosity of sharing with the world. 👍🏼❤️
Love this design. I’ve probably made 15 or so at this point. Two improvements I’ve made are- the strings from the unfinished hem drive me nuts on the inside where the filter pocket opening is. So I tack them down with fusible tape. Second, they don’t hold up very well to washing for me. They tend to lose their shape and I’m not going to iron after every wash. Interfacing seems to help them bounce back and ensure that nothing folds in and touches your mouth. Two thumbs up for this design, though! Thanks for the video!!
Those are good ideas. Thank you for made this one. I'm happy❣️
Love this design. Have made several and they wash great with a high quality quilting fabric.
I have washed mine at least 20 times now and they hold up great. I don't iron them afterwards either. Delicate cycle, use mesh laundry bag to but them in and dry on high. I fold over and sew the edge of the filter pocket at the very end. That helps a lot with the strings.
Make pattern (fabric) an inch longer and sew a double fold 1/2 inch hem
I zigzag along the 9 1/2 inch edge before doing the first seam stitching. That takes care of the unraveling threads of the filter pocket opening.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this.
Thank you for your tutorial and pattern. I have tried many styles and this one is the most comfortable!
I just finished mine it fits perfectly and it was so easy to make. Ty
This is the first mask that I've made with which I can breathe. Thank you so much!!
YOu're welcome👍
I acknowledge your genius and skill. I got lost at the point of cutting, and though easy for you the pattern is too complicated for me, but I so much like your finished product. Thank you for your time and effort in producing this video... Bruce
Thank you. Have fun to make masks.
I love the music, and your man hands on the sewing machine. We need more men sewing.
My dad taught me to sew. His mom was a 4-H leader. He could cook and sew. He taught me to do woodworking. And wanted me to know how to change oil and a tire. I’ve changed a tire more times than I’ve kept track of but have my husband writes down the steps for me each time. I don’t have them memorized. My brothers and sons learned to cook and sew too.
My Dad was a tailor before joining the army, I learned a lot from watching him on his sewing machine.
I love watching men sew! & ur cat is beautiful! Thanks for the design. I'm hope this helps me as well cause I have trouble where them too
there is a lot of men that sew you just don't see or here of them, when it comes to doing boats or upholstery work
Wonderful Breathable Mask! Thank you for this wonderful mask that doesn't touch your face. Love that I can add a filter. Be Safe and Blessed Always!
Wonderful wizardry. Made one. V good fit
Thank you. Finally a mask that does not touch my lips. Again, thanks.👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Wow... this is exactly what I need. I haven’t been able to find ANYTHING like this online & I don’t have my sewing machine yet. Well at least now I know what I need, Thank you so much & Blessings to you ☦️😇
Thank you❤︎
Love it! So easy and the best pattern I've seen so far.
Wow! And no wire needed! Love that cat!
I just made it!! It works Wonderfully! Thanks!!
About 40 min the first one, as I wasn’t familiar with instructions, having to re-watch video. Then I did three at a time in 30 min. Hope that helps.
OH MY.....
I must know the brand and name of that iron. Please do share info on this wonderful gadget.
Thank you.
And thank you for all the wonderful mask tutorials.
I made this last night and it fits great. The only thing I did differently was I needed the elastic to be 7" instead of 6". I even made a filter to fit exactly.
That's good. Thank you for watching.
I love this mask's clever construction - thank you!
You're welcome.
Thank you very much for this clever design, especially now in the summer heat of Northern California! I appreciate measurements in inches & metric. Metric is more accurate here. And love seeing your beautiful Siamese kitty! Blessings to you 🤗
Thank you😻 Take care. Stay safe.
Under normal circumstances I have such problems perspiring, especially on my head, and would love a pattern that had one layer. This looks like a really nice complete pattern on its own, though. Thank you for sharing. I just looked at your index of videos and you are the face mask master!!
Thank you.
Tamara Morton A single layer does not provide enough protection.
@@alhambralions5985 I think that's why there is an opening so you can insert a filter.

Very cleverly constructed!
Thanks so much for sharing your mask. I have made 2 so far, and love the design. So easy to breathe! 👍👍

Thank you for this Great pattern. My friends and I have made this mask. Every one of my friends who are making face mask have made your pattern. You instructive video was clear and concise. People with health conditions can wear your pattern of face mask, unlike the various pleated ones. On behalf of all my friends in Canada, we would like to full hearty to Thank you!!! I check you channel once a week to see your new pattern. Thank you! Thank you! Keep up your amazing work. :)
Words can’t describe how grateful I am. Thanks so much for your comment.
Good pattern, however it reminds me a bit of a little piggy nose, but looks so comfy. I have made one a long time ago during the earlier months of Covid. It was good. Thank you. Too bad you don’t have different sizes. I wouldn’t know how much to increase the measurements. Good job on this pattern. Very nice.
I think this pattern could be modified to add a see through vinyl window for lip reading. You would of course loos the filter pocket. Very interesting way to add darts.
Nice idea.
This was easier than I thought and quick!
