When I first saw it was a trio with Sax, Bass, and Drums I thought it would be lacking and un-exciting. I couldn't have been more wrong. Unbelievably great in every regard. One of the best trios ever on this planet. Can't wait to see them perform.
They're using backing tracks. Although I'm sure players on this level could cut it if the tracks went down, or their laptop got put on the wrong flight. Mohini would need to do more right-hand tapping on her top two strings to fill out the chords and might have a bit less freedom to get funky. They'd have to improvise more. Honestly, I'd prefer it.
Yeah, she talked about chord changes in the interview and was wondering how they did that with only a bass and sax. I'm thinking the sax is going thru an octave pedal. Also, how do you improvise over a backing track? Seems limiting. Obviously they are amazing musicians but some of the things she was selling in the interview aren't really true. @@Tim091
@@Tim091 Sadly because that's what the economics are for high level instrumental music these days. Years ago I taught at a contemporary music school and we had a concert/clinic every Wednesday. One week it was Chad Wackerman (Frank Zappa drummer), Jimmy Johnson (James Taylor bassist), and guitarist Alan Holdsworth. After the first tune Chad began talking about his gear in great detail, which was weird because no one asked. Turns out their appearances were being sponsored by the gear companies, and this was their only appearance that wasn't in a music store. Meanwhile talentless hacks like Kanye West pull in millions of dollars at sold out concert venues.
Wow...I have seen Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, and a few great jazz bands over the years. This brings to mind "Return to Forever" in the early years....wow. Really really genius playing.
OK, I am just hearing about Mohini from the Rick Beato interview. Good LAWD these guys are TIGHT!! I was expecting to hear the room erupt into applause, I am shocked so few people were there to see this! All of these players were just killing it. The bass over the drums at 3:22 WTH!!! Woooo!!!
Bruh! The challenge of speed playing is that you risk soul, groove and interest. Well, THIS is how you keep it all AND play with speed! I've found a new fav
, yes hopefully they began to cultivate a unique sound because us Old heads hearing nothing “new” here. Just good musicians playing. The greatest iconic bands are those that developed their own individual, innovative and signature sound, like The Weather Report, etc.
About a year ago RUclips started throwing videos with Mohini in them into my RUclips recommendations, I thought to myself, “damn she’s good!” A few months ago I saw the Rick Beato interview with her and thought to myself “that’s the bass player I saw a while back!” This group is Just Killing It!!! I get so inspired (and depressed) listening to it. Inspired because it makes me want to practice more and depressed because I know I’ll never have the ability to pull that off and this kind of musical virtuosity has such limited appeal.
also only minutes after the Rick Beato interview ... I am so amazed ... I hope I will get some sleep tonight (or I have to count quintuplets ... instead of sheep) 🙃
I can say RUclips suggested this to me organically. I saw the interview yes. Great interview. But now i can no longer say the interview brought me here. MAMOGI brought me here. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mark is such a great sax player. You should really feature him more often in your videos. Of course, as a bass player, I still love a good bass. Everyone is great in this video.
I Breat Rick to this. As a fusion enthusiest i found Mohini a few years ago while exploring Induan fusion. I love the stuff here. To me it's Some of the best Mohini. You found a great band that makes great music. Props to Mark. He writes great music. The three of you are killing it. Looking forward to seeing you in new York. Whats with the recorded hirn section though?
Well, I just found my new favorite band. Just imagine the amount of talent and rehearsal It takes to play a piece like this. It's truly amazing. ❤ masterpiece.
You know, from time to time, a slow dance ballad with lush harmony that keeps you guessing in the progression would be a nice touch to add to your comps. Some of us have pacemakers. 😇
Awesome! I got excited when seeing a "Show transcript" button and thought Google doing something amazing? Expected to see a score with all the parts - dang!? Anyway, thanks for keeping fusion alive folks!
A slightly different audience and this group finds themselves in the middle of a healthy moshpit. Mohinis tone is already very grizzly and the the doublekicks in the end were smashing too
Great sound and a super tight group! There are a lot of solo shots of the sax and drums, but no close-up shots of the bass work, even during long sychopated riffs or solos! 🤷🏾♂️
Not sure what this group is ..... But you got my attention 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 OMG I LOVE IT. i absolutely love funky stuff & is MY fav style to play on. Funny thing too, when i practice @ nite, i have VERY VERY VERY little light. My night "practice" is more or less "JUST PLAYING" working out the things i worked ON & i do THAT in almost complete darkness & people ask me "how do u do that & WHY do u do that?" MY ANSWER: {outdoor festivals NOT-included} how many bands do you see performing in the "BRITE LITE"......?????? 😅😅😅😅
Just after the Rick interview ......guess we are all active seekers.🤟
Ditto
Yep!!!!!!
So well-spoken verbally and a thespian with the bass. And pretty hot too. Super star.
Right on
Yep!!!
Monster Musicians ‼️
Jazz and fusion players, man. They're on a different level.

Sadly there are backing tracks: horns and keys. Totally unnecessary and not what an eclectic audience (there and here on YT) needs.

Gino's drumming is freaking awesome! Fantastic trio!
Wow...I have seen Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, and a few great jazz bands over the years. This brings to mind "Return to Forever" in the early years....wow. Really really genius playing.
Rick Beato me to it. Hehe. Great jam, i love the saxophonist's phrasing, it has pizazz.
i'm here for Mohini. but my god, that drummer makes me wanna cry.
Woooo!!!
That's why I'm here too!
Also checking in from the Beato crew!
Same with me and man they are killing it
Me too!
I also followed you here from the same interview, man she is something else!
I've lost eyesight from both my eyes due to those lights ... but thanks for the lovely music /\
Bruh! The challenge of speed playing is that you risk soul, groove and interest. Well, THIS is how you keep it all AND play with speed! I've found a new fav
I've been listening to Gino and Mohini for some time - they just keep getting better... smokin.

The lights are horrendous. Music is amazing.
Yeah the homeless guy my band use to let run our “light show” did a better job. Atrocious.
Agreed
My 5 year old could have done better.
Exactly! What a sad lighting guy.
@@rastanz We are sad. He is an idiot.

As much as I absolutely love Mohini, I find myself drawn to the drummer!! Amazing band!
Mohini!! You are damn brilliant.
Mark is such a great sax player. You should really feature him more often in your videos. Of course, as a bass player, I still love a good bass. Everyone is great in this video.
Somewhere between outrageous and impossible

A slightly different audience and this group finds themselves in the middle of a healthy moshpit. Mohinis tone is already very grizzly and the the doublekicks in the end were smashing too
Wait!... Where's the rest of the band that we're hearing? There's other sections that were prerecorded?
Piece of cake ! As good as the first albums of Kool & The Gang 🤓!
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSH!!!

Where are all those other sounds coming from? beside bass, sax and drums!
Pre-recorded backing tracks (keys and additional horns etc)

Impressive stuff!

I want to see a Hiromi-Mohini collab pleeeeeeeeease!!!!
Rick sent us all here...and we love it!
Certainly not commercial, but admirable for it's difficulty.
Great sound and a super tight group!
