Good info . I've found from using an analog thermometer that my Lee pot holds temp just fine . It's the flow rate that changes as the pot get's low . This will change with any bottom pour pot .
A great looking pot... and seems to work real well for you. Just hard to justify spending that much for a pot for me. Till the Lee 4/20 dies I stick with it. I hated the mold support for the Lee... so I made my own that works really well for me. I also did the PID from Johnny's Reloading Bench... I love it!
Yeah.. hard to justify just about anything other than the Lee pot from a strictly financial standpoint. For me, its a hobby and it helps keep me sane. Cheaper than psychiatric care 😀. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
Good day Viejo! Great info, unfortunately both pots are not an option for me right now. I was going to add a Lee pot to use for lead and keep the old Saeco pot for zinc but with the state of things in Canada I just cleaned out my Saeco and like I did last year I'll cast all the lead first then I'll switch over to zinc for the end of the casting season. We won't know which guns we'll be allowed to keep or which ones they will prohibit & confiscate until possibly as late as November and by then the casting season is well over. Also just found out today that our nationwide ban on the sale, manufacture & import of lead wheel weights will take effect officially in February 2024 however the tire shop I deal with can no longer get them. "Stick-Ons" are now all "Steel" & "Clip-Ons" are either "Steel or Zinc". Normal Hunting & fishing use of lead is still legal, except for the lead ban on waterfowl hunting which has been in effect for many years. Have a good day! Eh! haha

I really like my NOE mould guide. Especially since I cast with a lot of NOE hollow point moulds, and those have the HP pin retainers on the bottom side of the moulds, and NOE makes a big hollow area in the guide to accommodate that. Hoping all of your pots continue to pour smoothly, Viejo!
My old Lyman Mold Master XX is on the way out and I'm looking at the Pro Melt 2 and Lyman Mag 25 - both have built in PIDs. I built a PID years ago and I do like the idea of it being a separate unit as a 'just in case' as less 'built in' stuff the less that can go wrong. So I guess my main concern is the heat build up in the Pro Melt 2 or Mag 25 and it damaging the PID which I'd imagine must get somewhat hot in there. I have read a few forums describing such. So my question - if you know - 'if' the built in PID failed, could the PID be disconnected to allow use of the pot manually... or is it all wired in that you wouldnt be able to use it and it would have to be a manufacturer repair?
Hi, LAG. I think most of the PID failures happen as a result of not allowing the unit to cool properly after use. Manufacturers recommend turning the temp down to 100 and letting it run until the temp reaches that. That keeps the internal fan running, Instead, I go ahead and shut it right off, and place a higher volume fan on the vents. The whole unit cools more quickly that way. I also built a controller some years ago for my Lee pot. I’m betting that if the Lyman or RCBS PID failed, that a guy could fairly easily ID the PID unit and replace it himself. Barring that, I suppose you could just jump the connections and control the pot with an external PID. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
@@viejo2a Well I saw the Pro Melt 2 on sale for $260 at Grafs yesterday so the sale price was low enough to make me bite - especially when original Pro Melts on ebay go from $400-500. it take forever to heat up , then it leaks like a sieve, even after taken the nozzle out and use 320 valve grinding compound on it, doesn't leak as bad but still leaks , and I can't go away from it because the lead will lead out , and what this all about don't let lead drop below an inch , in the pot , how are you to switch lead or clean the pot , I’m better off using my used Lyman mag 20 , it heats up fast , and doesn't leak, very unhappy , RCBS used to do better
