My FIRST ( of 13 since then ) Harley was a 1974 XLH Sportster ! This was the LAST of the right side shifter . The US government mandated HD to move the shifter over to the left side starting in the 1975 year model . ( I proudly owned a 1975 XLH as well ) This is a beautiful find . The 1974 did have red , white , and blue stripes in the middle of both fenders to match the tank ; but I’m not criticizing . If you wanted to , there are sources to obtain those - and if it were mine , to be a “ purists “ and keep it bone stock , I’d consider this . A factory rear license plate Harley factory alarm was also mounted - and ran on separate 9 volt batteries . Also there was a sticker mounted on the oil tank . Peace .
that sport doesn't move, jump, or shake at idle, never seen that in a sport. flywheels must have been redone, balanced, and weighted. it didn't come out of the factory that way. beautiful machine brings back crazy memories. enjoy it. they don't make them anymore.
I remember that oil tank cooking the back of the leg and pulling those valve rod covers to Ajust the cold engine I think ever four thousand miles. Mine ran great on amoco white gas.
Hello. I purchased this XLH1000 that you listed in Japan this month. It is currently being serviced, and delivery is scheduled for around June. If possible, I would like to know what kind of person the previous owner was. Thank you for the wonderful motorcycle. With love from Japan.
I have that AMF paint job on my 20 SPORTY iron. Wonderful to see it on an actual bike from that era or before, awesome share!
Still have my 75 xlh which I brought brand new which is complete original and is a AACA winner and always a great bike to ride
What a sleek bike. It looks like 30MPH standing still!

Beautiful I'm running a 73 XLH Sportster canary yellow with blue pinstripe flames All Hail the Mighty Sportster 😎
They don't get any better than that! Wow.
Awesome a classic !
There's something about ironheads Sportsters and Shovel Superglides that stir the soul. Imperfect for sure, but non the less perfect imo.
