I think POTA is one of the best things going on in ham radio right now! It's a great way to get people interested in the hobby and on the air. When I first upgraded to general there was so much about the hobby to digest, but getting into POTA gave me one specific activity I could focus on, and because it happens everyday and uses a structured QSO, it really helped me get over mic fright. When I talk to folks about ham radio, it's the main thing I bring up because it's easy for people to understand, and the barrier to entry is much lower then some other activities. You can do it as a technician on 10M, and for less than $1,000 you can have a very capable setup that you can take anywhere.
The P.O.T.A. movement is so well organized; I am impressed by just how fun sitting in a park with a radio and an antenna can be.
Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for listening!
