The DX Mentor
США
Добавлен 15 ноя 2022
The purpose of The DX Mentor channel is to provide a way to recruit, educate, and retain amateurs who have some level of interest in DX. Whether it is a passing interest in chasing DX, someone who is fully invested in chasing DX but needs the “next level” of information to continue their journey, or those amateurs that are interested in DX and want to learn more on a broad array of topics, we want to help them all along the journey.
We have identified more than 40 topics that we will focus on in these channel episodes. We have content planned out through the Fall of 2024.
The format of these videos is a little different than other amateur radio channels for several reasons. First, it is not a host waxing philosophically about their personal experiences. The host will play the role of mediator ensuring that the topic is addressed while allowing flexibility for the guests to share experiences and knowledge. The host is the DX Mentor, not the DX Guru!

Need to get this series, RUclips or Podcast, exposed on QRZ or in QST.....can you engage the section manager up through HQ? Or maybe W3UR puts this in on a slow month hihi de WO8USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for the comment. W3UR mentions us quite a bit. I took out an ad in the National Contest Journal for about 6 months.
Always listen to podcast, came over here to see. Tnx de WO8USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Happy Sunday Evening from southwest Germany. 73 de Uncle Günter 💯👍🙋♂
VERY INTERESTING
I really think this is powerful. I think it needs a facelift though. Is this 64 bit and platform agnostic? AI pattern recognition would be awesome. What about integration with RMNoise? I am a Mac user, but I will implement this with a PC.
DXLab applications are native 32 bit Windows applications; they run correctly on 64-bit Windows. You can run them on a Mac using Parallels or VMware Fusion, and on Linux using Oracle's VM VirtualBox. DXLab doesn't prevent your from using RMNoise with your transceiver. Exactly how do you suggest that it interoperate with DXLab? I've thought about pattern recognition for improved CW and RTTY decoding, given the small vocabulary used in most QSOs; did you have other applications of pattern recognition in mind? Frankly, if a "facelift" is your primary concern, DXLab is not for you. There are plenty of amateur radio applications that prioritize "flashy user interface to impress shack visitors" over useful functionality. Time spent on making DXLab prettier would be time not spent on the many enhancements that would further improve support for finding and working the DX you need. I'm happy to continue this discussion on the DXLab Discussion Group, the DXLab Facebook Forum, or via email; your call.
thanks! extremely helpful presentation. You have a new user! de VU2TUM
Fascinating 2-parter. I had no idea about the Argentine call areas, to pick out one thing from many.
Glad to hear it. Thanks for staying with us!
Absolutely a very good presentation. Thank you very much for sharing. Tip: please use direct microphones, like headsets, instead of ambient microphones. With ambient mikes it takes al lot more energy to listen to all what is said. Thnx in advance and thank you for putting this online. 73, PA1SVM
Does anyone think the decoder’s are rubbish on this super fox !
Wow great talk. The past, present, and future of FT-8.
Glad you liked it!
Awesome Guys!!! 👍👍👍

Hey dx mentor I’m a gamer and live in an apt building and I believe I’m experiencing some sort of emi lag and my games feel almost sluggish and heavy when playing online sometimes late at night I notice that my games feel snappy and reactive again so I can’t figure out why 😢 any help would be immensely appreciated could it be improper grounding or interference come if from the dsl internet line it’s just such a tricky situation
The P.O.T.A. movement is so well organized; I am impressed by just how fun sitting in a park with a radio and an antenna can be.
Pretty amazing stuff. Thanks for listening!
I think POTA is one of the best things going on in ham radio right now! It's a great way to get people interested in the hobby and on the air. When I first upgraded to general there was so much about the hobby to digest, but getting into POTA gave me one specific activity I could focus on, and because it happens everyday and uses a structured QSO, it really helped me get over mic fright. When I talk to folks about ham radio, it's the main thing I bring up because it's easy for people to understand, and the barrier to entry is much lower then some other activities. You can do it as a technician on 10M, and for less than $1,000 you can have a very capable setup that you can take anywhere.
Great thoughts! Thanks for listening
VERY Well done Dave! I really enjoyed this! de WW1L
Congratulations on your 45th episode, with each episode being substantive, interesting and informative!
Never knew that DXepeditions are so expensive! So we have 439 DXCC entitites now? Wonder how many 'real' countries we have now? Lost track of the number after leaving school! 73 de Jon, VU2JO.
Bravo! What a thrilling adventure and a comprehensive guide to conducting a DXpedition in such unique spots. The technical tips and local insights were constructive. Great work on making this accessible to both newbies and experienced hams alike!
Very interesting !
Thanks for the new one guys. Just Paypaled $80,000 to Janet for country nr 439
Am I the only one here that punched the call into qrz then all of a sudden feel like they’ve been had LoL GR0UCH LoL , love you videos Bill , great episode. De N2JDX
Great episode Bill. See you in the Freedonia pile-ups.
relatively new DXer here, worked them on FT8, thanks for the great show! I see my call in their clublog log, but no confirmation on LOTW. Do you know if they have uploaded to LOTW yet? trying to figure out the electronic QSL side of things with dxpeditions, THX!
Fantastic show, here or Podcast, need to get the community to know about this. Great detail, learning, and entertainment de WO8USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I just worked them on 15 phone a couple hours ago
well done and thanks for watching
This was a very interesting conversation , I’m not a Qrp guy , personally I don’t believe in it , but definitely a really interesting perspective. de- N2JDX
Hey just found the channel, loving it!
I really can’t say enough good about there program. I used it , and passed my extra last Saturday. I could have never did it without ham radio prep . De N2JDX.
Great channel
Thanks for the discussion on wire antennas. I do not have the 1500W transmitter to go with it.
Excellent video de VA4ADM #3474
Great group #3181 de AA3R
Saw ad in NCJ. Thanks for putting this together. Looks to be an exciting channel. Jim-NT2F
I really enjoyed the show. The honest opinions shared by the guests on real situations and limitations were refreshing. I also appreciate that everyone stayed on topic. Regarding the 600-ohm open wire ladder line, I can relate to Mike's experience. It has made a significant impact on my ability to make contacts. I can now hear more stations and receive replies from many more stations. - DE KC5CYY

I built a 3 band Maypole fed with RG 11 /75 ohm coax. Don't need a tuner or Balun. It's cut for 20,40 and 80 meters it will work other bands on the Harmonics . Cost less than a 125 bucks for materials.
My lust for a large plot of land intensifies....I would love a 4sq
lots of great information !
Yo lost me in the first 5 minutes, just as appointed advice, you're gonna have to get to the point a little bit quicker on these. Rather than everyone talking about themselves. good luck!
great presentation thanks greg
I got my Technician's license at 16, back in the 1970s after completing a Gordon West class that he personally taught in Newport Beach, Calif. I never did get on the air beyond just being a Read-Only Ham, that is, listening but never had the wherewithal to get my transmitter set up. My license eventually expired, and I moved on to tending to a career and family, keeping electronics as a hobby and held on to my old Galaxy V transceiver and a couple miscellaneous HF receivers. Now at the age of 60, career slowing down and the kids off to college, the Amateur Radio bug has begun to stir and nibble at my toes. I've been looking through my old ARRL Handbooks at the "antenna" sections and am polishing--or should I say rust removing--my understanding of antennas with the idea of setting up a station, at least for listening. I've settled on the idea of starting with a simple 20/40m fan dipole, so I can start listening again, and start studying up for the General License exam. This discussion cleared a lot of questions up for me, and further sparked my interest. Thank you fellows. I hope to join the ranks of aspiring new Hams sometime here in the not too distant future!
Another great video Bill, thanks, If I only had a bigger lot. Maybe the next QTH. 73, Scott VE1CHL.
I'll take an open wire doublet in a confined spot over coax any day of the week. 10' ~ 15' of coax to a balun window line after that.
Lovely video, thanks for sharing. de John ON8EI.
Brilliant info from knowledgable HAM's. Much appreciated.
