•"Such, Such Were the Joys" is a long autobiographical essay by George Orwell, published in 1952. • " It was a bright cold day in April , and the clocks were striking thirteen" , goes the first line of 1984.
George Orwell is one of my favourite author because his dystopian novels have such depth and insight. Today, human beings are under surveillance, our smart phones track everything we do and everywhere we go; truth is getting distorted as we can no longer trust the media; history is being rewritten; we are being controlled by the narrative propogated by those in power...what a visionary he was. I also discovered that he wrote an essay titled 'Reflections on Gandhi' after Gandhiji's assassination. It's opening line reads "Saints should always be judged guilty until they are proved innocent, but the tests that have to be applied to them are not, of course, the same in all cases."
Orwell worked in B.B.C. Radio and he fought in Spanish Civil War. A journalist called Ian Jack discovers Orwell 's biography when he stayed in Katha and Motihari. I am from West Bengal and travelled to Bihar many times but I couldn't manage to visit Orwell 's birth place...wish I could visit his house one day..
Dear all, This is my success story dedicated to our dear Kalyani Mam. I was attempting since 2014, everytime i lost in points difference. I passed NET this time just because of our dear Mam !!! I had reached a point in life where every hope ended, at an age of 29 still jobless and desperatly struggling behind my dream. I always dreamed to become an Assistant Professor in English. One day, i came across Mams free RUclips videos. I was financially not well enough to get paid online courses then. The videos helped me a lot to clear the concepts. Mams explanations & examples, tips & motivation, all made the classes wonderfull! Gradually i started attending Mams Everyday @ 8 & @10 courses, Udemy lecturers and studied almost all materials Mam provided. The situations were not at all favourable. To be precise like many of us faced, exam center was at a long distance, computers jammed multiple times, questions were quite tricky. Besides these my parents were affected by covid during my exam preparation days. However i did my best under Mams guidance & motivation. Miracles occured on the result declaration day once i checked the site i couldnt believe my eyes. I passed !!! That feeling is really great! My life changed exactly from that moment. All the past pains vanished for future smiles. I attained this just because of Mam. Every year Mam has a bunch of successful students who spreads her fame and make her proud. May God Bless You all to attain your dream very soon!!!
Thank you Ma'am for the needed simplification of Orwell's Politics and English language, and your mentioning of the society's need of a women's language, a subaltern language was really thought- provoking...I was reminded of Virginia Woolf's question of gendered authorship, where she talked about women's lacking their own female language because of the domination of male authors.
My favourite is "Animal Farm". Story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer. Thank you for the video mam. "Arrey suno guys....." is my favourite of your styles of addressing.
George Orwell- Eric Arthur Blair. First Novel- "Burmese Days". Second Novel-"A Clergyman's Daughter". Animal Farm: A Fairy Story. Dystopian Novel. "Napoleon" stands for Stalin and "Snowball" stands for Trotsky.
I've read 1984 and one must read it . It seems evident in all times. Winston Smith describes every subtle detail carefully, evading the protocols but ultimately succumbs to the BIG BROTHER. This work is beyond comparison.
The Spike is a 1931 essay by George Orwell in which he details his expérience staying overnight in the casual ward of a Workhouse near London. At this time ,he was intentionally living as a Tramp in and around London as part of social experiment .This essay forms the basis of his first book "Down and Out in Paris and London "1933. The Adelphi or New Adelphi was an English Literary Journal founded by John Middleton Murry and published between 1923 and 1955. Novel "Nineteen eighty four " popularised the term "Orwellian" as an adjective with many terms used in the novel entering common usage , including Big Brother , DoubleThink , ThoughtPolice , ThoughtCrime ,Newspeak and 2+2=5. A Hanging 1931 , Set in Burma is a short essay by George Orwell . Essay Shooting an Éléphant and novel Burmese days are also based on his experiences in the Burma police . Thankyou for your time and guidance ma'am ✨
Good morning Ma'am Today I turned 21 My only wish is to meet you ,you are always motivating me , I am grateful that I found you not only for NET preparation but for life . I will definitely make you proud . Love you always ❤️
In George Orwell's Animal Farm, various characters symbolize key figures from the Russian Revolution and the early Soviet Union: Old Major represents Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, the ideological founders of the revolution; Napoleon embodies Joseph Stalin, the oppressive dictator; Snowball symbolizes Leon Trotsky, Stalin's rival; Boxer represents the hardworking proletariat who are ultimately exploited; Squealer serves as the mouthpiece for government propaganda; the dogs signify the secret police that enforce Stalin's rule; Mr. Jones represents the overthrown Tsar Nicholas II; and the other animals reflect the general populace misled by the revolution's promises.
Orwell produced literary criticism, poetry, fiction and polemic journalism.'Animal Farm' is his allegorical novella,'Nineteen Eighty Four' is his dystopian novel and' 'The Road to Wigan Pier' is his non-fiction.
Animal Farm was the first book which I read when I wanted to enhance my reading ability. George Orwell is really an important writer. Thank you for the beautiful explanation ma'am, you made it extremely effortless.
Mam I watched this video yesterday and today in the class you taught George Orwell, so it got revised. Nineteen Eighty Four was prescribed in my MA syllabus and I found this novel quite interesting. Today in the class when you were narrating this novel, at the point when Winston and Julia are brainwashed, I suddenly connected it with the rigid norms of the society which try to brainwash lovers in the name of caste, religion etc and then I found that this novel is very much the reflection of the world we are living in. Everything is controlled by the Powerful and the innocent doesn't know it or are not permitted to know. I am finding the connections of this novel with 'A Number' by Caryl Churchill in which B2 doesn't know whether he is a copy or original. Kind of disillusionment. Thank you so much for everything. 😍
Orwell 1903_1950 He is going Down and out in Paris and London (1933) as well as to Burmese days(1934) and there he is rising A clergyman's Daughter (1935) and he keep the (her)aspidistra Flying (1936) in the Road to wigan pier(1937) on the way to home Homage to Catalonia (1938) .....
George Orwell is the most important writer especially his non fiction work getting important in these days into net exam ...he says once I never write without political motive .🌼 thanku ma'am this is one of the most interesting topic.
Thank you so much mama I am sure it put you nobody can explain post mortem fiction and post modern right us Indus way it is very useful as usual your always inspiring me to do my preparation thank you so much dear mam
George Orwell's essay "Reflections on Gandhi" critically examines the complexities of Gandhi's character and political philosophy, particularly his commitment to non-violence, or Satyagraha. Orwell grapples with the tension between Gandhi's spiritual ideals and the political realities of coercion and manipulation inherent in politics. He acknowledges Gandhi's significant achievements in leading India towards independence but expresses skepticism about the efficacy of non-violent resistance in broader contexts, suggesting it may not be universally applicable, especially under totalitarian regimes. Orwell's portrayal oscillates between admiration for Gandhi's moral integrity and an aesthetic distaste for what he perceives as an anti-human idealism, ultimately concluding that while Gandhi's life was not a failure, his approach to politics raises critical questions about the nature of power and resistance in a complex world.
The last five minutes literally gave me tears in my eyes and it was just like a water fountain. I dont know why or how this happened. 1985 is a novel by English writer Anthony Burgess. Originally published in 1978, it was inspired by, and was intended as a tribute to, George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
I have read the novel Animal Farm. It employs simple language. The novel actually makes us think about the working of power relations in society and how knowledge is created in accordance with it. It is important to understand the past as well as the present in the right context. Linking of literary theory helps to get a better grip on the text. Thank you..🙂
In Politics and the English language (1946) George Orwell gives 6 solutions 1. Excise stale figures of speech 2. Value simplicity 3. Cut meaningless words. 4. Use active voice. Never use the passive where you can use the active. 5. Use English terms. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word 6. Break rules intentionally. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous
1. George Orwell attended prep school as a child-and hated it 2. He was a prankster 3. Orwell worked a number of odd jobs for most of his career 4. He once got himself arrested-on purpose 5. Orwell had knuckle tattoos.
Thank you so much ma'am for this wonderful session!💞 I never imagined that someday someone will inspire and motivate me this much. Frivolously wondering if Orwell originally meant to complete 1984 in 1948 instead of 1949. Too late to change the title of the book to 1994 when book was ready to publish. Fun thought.
